சிவன் கோவிலின் அர்ச்சகர் தங்கள் கிராமத்துக் கோவிலில் வருமானம் இல்லாததால் நகரத்துக்குச் சென்றார். பெற்றோர்களின் அறிவுரை அவரிடம் செல்லுபடியாகவில்லை.
நகரத்துக் கோவிலில் நல்ல வருமானம். தன் வசதிகளைப் பெருக்கிக் கொண்டவர் வசதிக்கு ஏற்ப வாழ்ந்து வந்தார். கூடவே தலைக் கனமும் ஏறியது.
பலன்-நகரத்துக் கோவிலின் பணி பறிபோனது.
மனக்குறையுடன் பெரியவாளை தரிசனம் செய்ய சென்றிருந்தார். தன் குறைகளை கொட்டினார்.
“கிராமத்தில் வருமானம் இல்லாததால் தான் இங்கு வந்தேன். இங்கு வேலை போய்விட்டது” என்று கண் கலங்கியவராகக் கூறினார்.
“கிராமத்தில் உள்ள கோவிலின் மஹிமையை நீ அறிவாயோ” என்றார்கள் ஸ்வாமிகள்.
அதற்கு பதிலே இல்லை அர்ச்சகரிடம்.
“உன் ஊர் கோவில் பாடல் பெற்ற ஸ்தலம். கோவில் ஆகம விதிப்படி கட்டப்பட்டது. அப்படிப்பட்ட கோவிலில் பூஜை செய்வது உன் புண்ணியம். நீ வெளியில் சென்று கஷ்டப்படுவது பகவானுக்கு விருப்பமில்லை போலும். நீ கிராமத்திற்கு சென்று அப்பாவுடனே பூஜையை செய்” என்றார்கள் பெரியவா.
பெரியவாளின் உத்தரவாயிற்றே.அதன்படியே தன் கிராமத்து கோயிலின் பூஜையை கவனித்துக் கொள்ள சென்று விட்டார்.
ஒரு மாதம் கடந்த நிலையில் அக்கோவிலின் திருப்பணி வேலைகள் ஆரம்பித்து விட்டன. ஒரு வருடத்தில் கும்பாபிஷேகமும் முடிவடைந்தது. பக்தர்களின் கூட்டம் அலை மோதியது.
மேலும் ஒரு வருடம் கடந்தது. பெரியவாளை தரிசனம் செய்யச் சென்றார் அந்த அர்ச்சகர்.
“இப்போ எந்தக் கோவிலில் பூஜை?” என்றார்கள்
கதறியபடியே காலில் விழுந்து வணங்கினார் அர்ச்சகர்.நடந்தவற்றை அப்படியே தெரிவித்தார்
“ஜீவிதத்திற்கு கஷ்டமில்லை தானே” என்றார்கள் பெரியவா.
“எல்லாம் ஸ்வாமிகளின் ஆசியினால் தான்” என்றார் ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீருடன்.
“நான் என்ன பண்ணிப்பிட்டேன் பெரிதாக, எல்லாம் சிவனின் அருள்” என்றார்கள் ஸ்வாமிகள்.
தன்னை முன்னிறுத்திக் கொள்வதில் எப்போதும் பெரியவாளுக்கு விருப்பம் கிடையாது.

An Archakar (Priest) of a Siva temple, went away to the city since the temple in his village had very little income. His parents advised him not to go, but he did not heed to their advice.
The income in the city temple was good. The Archakar’s earnings also increased. He procured all the required facilities and lived a life of comfort. He also became head strong.
The result was that he lost his job!
With a heavy heart, he went for Sri Periyava’s darshan and poured out his problems in front of Sri Periyava.
“I came here only because the earnings in the village was very meager. Now I have lost my job” he said with tears in his eyes.
“Are you aware of the glory of the village temple?” asked Sri Periyava.
The Archakar did not reply.
“The temple in your village has been praised in the hyms (sung by the Nayanmars*). The temple is also built as per the rules laid down in the Agamas (Sastras). Performing puja in such a temple is a noble deed. Probably, God is not happy about you going (out of the village) and facing problems. You go back to your village and conduct the pujas along with your father” said Sri Periyava.
It was an ‘order’ from Sri Periyava. So the Archakar went back to the village to conduct pujas at the temple.
In a month’s time, the restoration work of the temple started. Within a year the Kumbhabhishekam was also performed. A huge number of devotees started visiting the temple.
Another year passed. The Archakar went to have the darshan of Sri Periyava.
“In which temple are you performing pujas now?” asked Sri Periyava.
The Archakar tearfully fell at Sri Periyava’s feet and informed everything.
“There is no difficulty in making a living now, isn’t it?” asked Sri Periyava.
“It is all because of Swamigal’s blessings” said the Archakar with tears of joy.
Sri Periyava said “I have done nothing great. It is all because of Lord Siva’s grace”.
Sri Periyava never wished to project himself.
