Rama Nama does not have need Niyamam or Aacharam. ராம நாம மஹிமை

ஸ்ரீ போதேந்திர ஸ்வாமிகள் காஞ்சி காமகோடி பீடத்தின் 59வது பீடாதிபதி ஆவார். ராம நாம மகிமையை விளக்கும் நூல்களை உலகுக்குத் தந்தவர் இவர்.

இப்படிப்பட்ட மகானான ஸ்ரீபோதேந்திரரின் வாழ்வில் சுவையான சம்பவம் ஒன்று நடந்தது. அவர் ஒரு முறை தீர்த்த யாத்திரை புறப்பட்டார். காசியிலிருந்து திரும்பும் வழியில் ஜகந்நாதர் கோயில் உள்ள புரியை அடைந்தபோது இருட்டிவிட்டது. ஸ்வாமிகள், தம் குருவான கவிஞர் லட்சுமிதரரின் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றார். இரவில் எவரையும் தொந்தரவு செய்ய விரும்பாத ஸ்ரீபோதேந்திரர், அந்த வீட்டுத் திண்ணையில் படுத்துக் கொண்டார். அப்போது அந்தணர் ஒருவர் பதற்றமாக வந்து லட்சுமிதரரது வீட்டுக் கதவைத் தட்டினார். லட்சுமிதரரின் மகன் லட்சுமிகாந்தன் கதவைத் திறந்து, அந்த அந்தணரை உள்ளே அழைத்து பாய் விரித்து அமரச் செய்தார்.

‘‘இரவில் தொந்தரவு செய்வதற்கு மன்னியுங்கள். எனக்கு ஒரு பிரச்னை!” என்ற அந்தணர் தொடர்ந்து பேசினார்: ‘‘பல மாதங்களுக்கு முன் என் மனைவியுடன் காசி யாத்திரை போனேன். காசிக்குப் பக்கத்தில் ஓர் ஊரில் விடுதி ஒன்றில் தங்கினோம். காலையில் எழுந்து பார்த்தால் மனைவியைக் காணவில்லை. அவள் இல்லாமலேயே காசி யாத்திரையை முடித்துக் கொண்டு, அதே விடுதியில் வந்து தங்கினேன். அவள் நினைவு என்னை வாட்டி எடுத்தது. மறு நாள் நதியில் குளிக்கும்போது ‘ஸ்வாமி’ என்று என் மனைவியின் குரல். நிமிர்ந்து பார்த்தால், பயங்கரத் தோற்றத்துடன் ஒரு கரிய உருவம். அந்த உருவம், ‘ஸ்வாமி! விடுதியில் சில கயவர்கள் என்னைக் கடத்திச் சென்று நாசம் செய்து விட்டனர். உண்ணாமல், உறங்காமல் உடல் நலம் கெட்டு இந்த உருவில் வாழ்ந்து வருகிறேன். இன்று தங்களைக் காணும் பாக்கியம் பெற்றேன். என்னை அழைத்துச் செல்லுங்கள். இனி, தங்கள் அருகிலேயே இருந்து தாங்கள் இடும் பணிகளை செய்ய ஆசைப்படுகிறேன்!’ என்றாள். இரக்கமாக இருந்தது. அவள் மீது தவறு இல்லை என்று அழைத்து வந்து விட்டேன். இதற்குப் பரிகாரம் சொல்லுங்கள்!” என்றார்.

லட்சுமிகாந்தன், ‘‘அந்தணரே… ராமா என்று மூன்று முறை தங்கள் மனைவியைச் சொல்லச் சொல்லுங்கள். சரியாகிவிடும்!” என்றார்.

லட்சுமிகாந்தன் சொன்னதைக் கேட்டு அறைக்குள் இருந்த அவர் தாயார், ‘‘ராம நாமத்தை பக்தியுடன் ஒரு முறை சொன்னாலே குறை நீங்கிவிடும் என்று உன் தகப்பனார் சொல்லக் கேட்டிருக்கிறேன். நீ ஏன் மூன்று முறை கூறச் சொல்கிறாய்?” என்றார்.

இந்த உரையாடலைச் செவிமடுத்தவாறே ஸ்ரீபோதேந்திரர் அந்த வீட்டுக்குள் நுழைந்தார். அவரை அடையாளம் கண்டுகொண்ட லட்சுமிகாந்தன் அவர் காலில் விழுந்து வணங்கினார். ஸ்வாமிகள் லட்சுமிகாந்தனிடம், ‘‘அந்தணருக்குத் தாங்கள் கூறிய பரிகாரத்துக்கு ஏதேனும் ஆதாரம் உண்டா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

உடனே லட்சுமிகாந்தன் தன் தகப்பனாரால் எழுதப்பட்ட, நாம கௌமுதி என்ற நூலை ஸ்வாமிகளிடம் தந்தார். ஸ்வாமிகள் அதைப் படித்துப் பரவசம் அடைந்தார். ‘‘இந்த நூலில் ராம நாம மகிமை சிறப்பாகக் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதன் பெருமையை உலகுக்கு எடுத்துக் காட்ட இந்தப் பரிகாரம் ஒரு சோதனையாக இருக்கட்டும். இந்த அந்தணரின் மனைவி இங்குள்ள புஷ்கரணியில் மூழ்கி, ராம நாமத்தைக் கூறி பழைய உருவத்தை அடையட்டும்!” என்றார்.

அதன்படி மறு நாள் காலையில் அந்தப் பெண் புஷ்கரணியில் மூழ்கி எழுந்து, ‘‘ராமா’’ என்று ஒரு முறை கூறியதும், பழைய உருவம் பெற்றாள். அவள் முகத்தில் மங்களகரமான குங்குமப் பொட்டு பிரகாசித்தது. அனைவரும் இந்த அதிசயம் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்தனர். ஸ்ரீபோதேந்திர ஸ்வாமிகள் அந்தப் பெண்ணின் கையால் பிட்சை பெற்று, தம்பதியை ஆசீர்வதித்துவிட்டுத் தனது பயணத்தைத் தொடர்ந்தார்.

நல்லன எல்லாம் தரும் ‘ராம’ நாமத்தை நாளும் நாம் ஜபிப்போமாக!

ஜெய் ஸ்ரீ ராம் !!
என்றும் தெய்வீக பணியில்,
தெய்வீகம் ஸ்ரீஹரி மணிகண்டன்.
தெய்வீகம் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்
ஹரி ஓம் !! ஹரே கிருஷ்ணா !!

Sri Bodhendra Swamigal was the 59^th Peetathipathi (Pontiff) of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. He authored several books highlighting Mahimai of Rama Nama and he is known as “Rama Nama Bodhendra Swamigal”.

The following interesting incident took place during the life time of Mahaan Bodhendra Swamigal. During one of his Tirtha Yathras he was returning from Kasi and reached Puri late one evening. Swamigal went to the house of his Guru Poet Lakshmidarar. Since it was late night Swamigal did not want to disturb the occupants of the house and he went to sleep on the verandah outside the house.

During the night a brahmin, in an agitated state, came and knocked on the doors of Lakshmidarar’s house. Lakshmikanthan, son of Lakshmidarar, opened the door, invited the Brahmin into the house and offered him a seat.

The Brahmin said “I apologize for disturbing you in the night. I have a problem. Few months ago I travelled to Kasi with my wife. We stayed a night in a lodge in a town near Kasi. When I got up in the morning I could not find my wife. Despite searching all over I could not find her. Hence I completed Kasi yatra, without my wife, returned back to the same town and stayed at the same lodge. I was yearning for my wife. Next morning when I went to take bath in the nearby river, I heard my wife’s voice saying ‘Swami’. When I looked up I saw a dark complexioned lady who looked very ugly.

She said ‘I am your wife. When we stayed in this town on the way to Kasi some criminals kidnapped me and took advantage of me. Since then I have not been able to eat or sleep. I have lost all my health and I am living with this ugly appearance. Because of divine blessings I have met you today. Please take me along with you. I will stay with you and perform duties like a servant.’

I took pity on her and I have brought her back because she was not at fault for what happened to her. Please suggest a parihaaram (remedy)”

Lakshmikanthan said “Brahmin, please ask her to chant Rama Nama three times and she will become alright.”

Lakshmikanthan’s mother who overheard this conversation was somewhat annoyed. She said “I have heard your father say that chanting Rama Nama once with reverence will remove all paapam. Why do you advise her to chant Rama Nama thrice?”

Hearing the entire conversation, Swami Bodhendrar entered the house. Lakshmikanthan recognized Swamigal and prostrated in front of him. Swamigal asked Lakshmikanthan “Do you have any proof for the parihaaram you have suggested just now?”

Lakshmikanthan took out Nama Gowmuthi, a book written by his father, and gave it to Swamigal. Reading the book Bodhendra Swamigal was exhilarated. He said “This book has highlighted the glory of Rama Nama. Let this parihaaram be an example to illustrate the glory of Rama Nama. Tomorrow morning if this lady does snanam in pushkarani (Pond) chanting Rama Nama, she will regain her earlier appearance.”

Next morning the lady did snanam in pushkarani chanting Rama Nama. She came out with her erstwhile appearance with kumkumam on her forehead. Those who had gathered were surprised and happy to see the glory of Rama Nama. Bhodendra swamigal took bikshai (food) cooked by the lady, blessed the couple and continued his journey.

Let us all chant Rama Nama which blesses devotees with all good things.
