“மநுஷ்யராகப் பிறந்து விட்டால் கஷ்டம், ஆபத்து எல்லாம் வரத்தான் செய்யும். அதை உணர்த்தத்தான் புத்தாண்டில், முதலில் பூக்கும் வேப்பம்பூவை உண்கின்றோம். வருஷத் தொடக்கத்திலேயே கசப்பை ஏற்கிறோம். ஏறக்குறைய வருஷ முடிவில் வரும் பொங்கல் பண்டிகையில் கரும்பை ருசிக்கிறோம். ஆரம்பத்திலேயே இனித்து விட்டால் முடிவில் கசந்து போகும். கசப்பென்று வெறுப்படைய வேண்டாம். கசப்பையே இயற்கை அன்னையின்—அல்லது தர்மநியதியின்—மருந்தாக எதிர்கொண்டு வரவேற்போம். அதனால் போகப்போக முடிவில் எந்த அநுபவத்தையுமே தித்திப்பாக எண்ணுகிற மனப்பான்மை உண்டாகும்.” – ஸ்ரீ காஞ்சி மஹா பெரியவா தெய்வத்தின் குரல் வால்யும் – 1

துர்(ன்)முகி  தமிழ்ப் புத்தாண்டு!

14/4/2016 வியாழக்கிழமை பிறக்கிறது.

“துர்முகி” என்ற பெயர் தாங்கி வருகிறதே, அது எப்படியிருக்குமோ என்று கலங்க வேண்டியதில்லை. “துர்முகி” என்றிருக்கிறதே என்ற அச்சமும் பலருக்கு! ஒவ்வோரு தமிழ்ப்புத்தாண்டின் பெயரிலும் ஒவ்வொரு சூட்சமம் அடங்கியுள்ளது. துர்முகி புத்தாண்டின் பெயரில் தான் அப்படி என்ன சூட்சமம் உள்ளது என்பதை கூறுகிறேன்.

“துர்முக” என்றால் குதிரை என்று அர்த்தம். துர்முகி தமிழ்ப்புத்தாண்டு முழுவதும் சுக்கிரனின் ஆதிக்கத்தில் உள்ளது. சுக்கிரனுக்கு அடுத்ததாக ஆதிக்கமும், அதிகாரமும் பெறுவது, கல்விக்கு அதிபதியான புதன் பகவான். புதனின் அதிதேவதை ஶ்ரீஹயக்ரீவர். ஞானம், கல்வி, அறிவாற்றல், நினைவாற்றல், ஒழுக்கம், நேர்மை ஆகியவற்றை அளிப்பவர் இவர்தான்.

இந்த துர்முகி ஆண்டு முழுவதும் ஶ்ரீ ஹயக்ரீவரின் சக்தியே மக்களுக்குத் துணையிருந்து வழிகாட்ட இருப்பதால், ஶ்ரீஹயக்ரீவ பகவானின் பெண்ணாகிய இப்புத்தாண்டிற்கு “துர்முகி” என்ற பெயர் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. அதாவது, பரி (குதிரை) முகத்தைத் கொண்டுள்ள ஶ்ரீஹயக்ரீவரின் அனுக்ரகத்தை அள்ளித்தரப் போகும் ஆண்டாகத் திகழப் போவதை துர்முகி என்ற பெயர் சூட்சம்மாக எடுத்துக்காட்டுகிறது.

துர்முகி வருஷம் நமக்கு அனைத்து மங்களங்களும் தர மஹா பெரியவாளையும், நமது காஞ்சி ஆச்சார்யர்களையும் பிரார்த்திப்போம்.

When we take birth as a human being on this earth, difficulties, danger etc. will come. It is to signify this that we partake the neem flower which blooms in the beginning of the year, on the New Year’s Day. We accept the bitter taste at the beginning of the year itself. Around the end of the year, during the Pongal (Sankaranti) festival, we enjoy the sweetness of sugarcane. If things happen to be sweet in the beginning, they tend to get bitter at the end!

We need not hate bitterness. We will welcome it, considering it the medicine offered by nature or by the code of Dharma. By doing this, as time goes by, we will develop the mental state to accept all experiences as sweet ones – Sri Kanchi Maha Periyava (Deivathin Kural- Volume-1)

Durmukhi Tamizh New Year

The Tamizh New Year Durmukhi begins on Thursday, 14^th April 2016.

We need not worry about the new year having the name Durmukhi. Many are even scared of this name.

The name of each new  year has a significance. Let me tell you the significance of the name Durmukhi.

‘Durmukha’ denotes a horse. The whole of this year is under the lordship of Sukra (Venus). Next to Sukra, the lordship and power is acquired by Budha (Mercury), the lord of knowledge. The Devata associated with Budha is Hayagriva. It is Hayagriva who gives knowledge, education, intelligence, good memory, discipline, honesty etc.

Sri Hyagriva’s force is going to guide the people all through this year. Hence the year, which is considered as Sri Hayagriva’s daughter, has the name Durmukhi. This name signifies in a subtle manner that this year is going to be abundantly blessed with the grace of the horse faced Sri Hayagriva.

Let us pray to Sri Maha Periyava and to our Kanchi Acharyas that this new  year may grant us all things auspicious.
