ஐஸ்க்ரீம் ஸாப்படறேளா?..”

“தான் பெற்ற, பெறும் இன்பம்.. பெறுக இவ்வையகம்” இந்த நல்ல வசனத்தை, ஏதோ பெரிய பெரிய கார்யங்களுக்குத்தான், தம்பட்டம் அடித்துக் கொண்டுதான், செய்து காட்ட வேண்டும் என்பதில்லை. யாருக்குமே தெரியாமல் நாம் செய்யும் நல்லதைத்தான், உண்மையிலேயே பகவான் அங்கீகரிக்கிறான்.

காஞ்சிபுரத்தில், பெரியவா சில பாரிஷதர்களுடன் ஸ்ரீமடத்தின் வாஸலில் வந்து நின்று கொண்டிருந்தார். நல்ல வெய்யில் நேரம்! சற்று தள்ளி, ஒரு ஐஸ்க்ரீம் வண்டிக்காரன் நின்று கொண்டிருந்தான். ஒரு சின்ன பெண்குழந்தை, அந்த ஐஸ்க்ரீம்காரனிடம்….

“எனக்கு ஒரு… கப் ஐஸ்…..”

ஐஸ்க்ரீமை வாங்கிக் கொண்டு, அவனிடம் காஸை நீட்டியது. மிகுந்த ஆவலோடு அந்த கப்பை திறந்து, குட்டி ஸ்பூனால் ஐஸ்க்ரீமை நாக்கில் தடவிக் கொள்ள ஆரம்பித்த போதுதான் பெரியவா அங்கே நின்று கொண்டிருப்பதை கவனித்தது!

“தாத்தா !……ஐஸ்க்ரீம் ஸாப்படறேளா?…….”

துளி கூட, விகல்பமே இல்லாமல், தன் கையிலிருந்த ஸ்பூனையும், கப்பையும் பெரியவாளிடம் நீட்டியது. நம்ம குழந்தைதான், மஹா குழந்தையாச்சே!….. சிரித்துக் கொண்டே….

“அப்டீன்னா…. என்னன்னே எனக்கு தெரியாதேம்மா!…. எனக்கு வேணாம்..”

“என்ன தாத்தா நீங்க? கொஞ்சூண்டு ஸாப்டுங்கோ!…”

கல்மிஷம் இல்லாத அந்தக் குழந்தையின் முகம் சுண்டிவிட்டது! தாங்குவாரா தாயுமானஸ்வாமி?……

“நா…..எனக்குத்தான்,  ஐஸ்க்ரீம் வேண்டான்னேன்!…. நா…. சொல்ற, வேற ரெண்டு கொழந்தேளுக்கு வாங்கித் தரியா?….”

“ஓ!….. தரேனே.!….”

ஸந்தோஷமாக கத்தியது!

அங்கே ஸ்ரீமடத்தின் வாஸலில் விளையாடிக் கொண்டிருந்த ஸ்ரீமடத்தின் துப்புரவு தொழிலாளியின் ரெண்டு குழந்தைகளையும் அழைத்தார்.

“இந்தா…. இவாளுக்கு வாங்கிக் குடு…”

ஐஸ்க்ரீம் கையில் கிடைத்ததும், குழந்தைகளின் கண்கள் ஸந்தோஷத்தில் விரிந்தன. மூன்று குழந்தைகளும் ஆனந்தமாக ஐஸ்க்ரீம் ஸாப்பிடுவதை சிரித்துக் கொண்டே கொஞ்ச நேரம் நின்று பார்த்துவிட்டு, உள்ளே சென்றார் நம் பெரியவா.

இது ரொம்ப சின்ன ஸம்பவம் என்றாலும், பெரிய ஸமத்துவம் போதிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது! பகிர்ந்து உண்டால் கிடைக்கும் ஆனந்தத்தால், பரஸ்பர அன்பு, விட்டுக் குடுக்கும் மனப்பான்மை, பிறநலம் எல்லாமே அன்று அந்த குழந்தைகளின் பிஞ்சு மனஸில், பெரியவாளுடைய வாக்கு மூலம், அழுந்தப் பதிக்கப்பட்டது.

அதோடு அந்த சின்னக் குழந்தைக்கு, பெரியவாளும், பெரியவாளின் வாக்கும் ஸமமாகவே இருந்தது! நாமும் இன்றும் கூட, பெரியவாளின் வாக்குப்படி நடக்க நம்மாலான யத்தனத்தை செய்தாலே, பெரியவா நம்முடனேயே இருப்பதை நிச்சயமாக உணரலாம் !

Will you have ice cream?

“The Universe should also experience the pleasures and happiness that one feels as an individual”.  A very noble thought indeed. However one need not boast this great dialogue every time one is involved in carrying out great deeds. The good deeds done by all of us silently and without the knowledge of others are the ones truly recognized by God.

On a hot summer day, Periyava was with a few Parishathars outside the mutt in Kancheepuram. An Ice cream vendor was selling ice at a short distance away from where Periyava was standing.  A small Girl approached the Ice cream vendor and asked him,” Give me a cup of ice cream”.

She collected the Ice cream and paid the vendor. She then removed the lid from the ice cream cup and started licking the ice cream with excitement. Suddenly noticing Periyava‘s presence, she innocently asked him, “Thatha (Grand Pa) will you have ice cream” and without any inhibition, extended the cup and spoon towards Periyava.

Periyava himself being a great child, smiled and told the little girl, “I don’t know what Ice Cream is… I don’t want”
The innocent child’s face shrunk on Periyava‘s refusal and she insisted, “What is this thatha…. at least take little”.

Periyava could not bear the hurt that spread in the child’s face and told the girl, ‘I only said that I do not want Ice cream for me…. I will tell you… can you get ice cream for two other children…?
‘Oh…… sure… I will give….’ she shouted with happiness..

Periyava called two children of a sanitation worker of the SriMutt who were playing outside the Mutt. Periyava then told the little girl, “Here, get ice cream for these two children.”

The moment the children got ice cream in their hands, their eyes shone with happiness. Periyava stood there for some time watching the three children happily eating the ice cream.  He then went inside the Mutt.

Though, a very small incident, it has taught a significant message of the importance of equality. The happiness derived out of sharing also firmly imbibed the qualities of Loving fellow human beings, selflessness and universal well-being and a mindset to give and take, in the young hearts that day. In addition, for the child the words of Periyava and Periyava himself were not different from each other and were one and same.

Even today, if we follow the preaching of Periyava and do whatever help possible to others, we can definitely feel his Holy presence around and with us.
