‘வெளியில் காயம் தெரியாதபடி சுளீரென்று ஒரு சொடுக்கு எல்லோர் முதுகிலும் விழுந்தது!.’

ஆவணி மாத வெள்ளிக்கிழமை,வரலட்சுமி விரதம் என்று,  பெண்கள் சிறப்பு வழிபாடு செய்யும் புண்ணிய தினம்.

வழக்கம் போல் மகாப் பெரியவாள் பூஜை செய்து கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.திருபுரசுந்தரி சமேத சந்த்ர-
மௌளீஸ்வரருக்கு அபிஷேகம் முடிந்து விட்டது. அலங்காரம் ஆகிவிட்டது. அர்ச்சனைகள் நடந்து விட்டன. அடுத்ததாக தூப – தீப – நைவேத்யம்.

தேங்காய்களை உடைத்து வைக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால், வழக்கமான இடத்தில் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த
தேங்காய்களைக் காணவில்லை.

பூஜைக்கட்டில் சேவை செய்யும் சிஷ்யர் அதிர்ந்து போனார் ஒரு நிமிஷம்! ஐந்தாறு தேங்காய்கள் உடனடியாக வேண்டுமே.

சட்டென்று ஒரு யோசனை. சமையற்கட்டுக்கு ஓட்டமாக ஓடி,அங்கேயே தேங்காய்களை உடைத்துக் கொண்டு பூஜைக்கட்டுக்குப் பறந்து வந்தார். அப்படியும் நைவேத்தியத்துக்கு ஓரிரு நிமிடங்கள் காத்திருக்க நேர்ந்து விட்டது.

பூஜை விவகாரங்கள் எல்லாம் முடிந்தன.

“தேங்காய் உடைத்துக் கொண்டு வருவதற்கு ஏன் தாமதம்?” என்று பெரியவாள் யாரையும் கேட்கவில்லை.

பிக்ஷைக்கும் போகவில்லை. மானேஜரைக் கூப்பிடச் சொன்னார்கள். அவர் அருகே வந்து பவ்யமாக நின்றார். ‘இப்போது ஏதோ சூறாவளி வீசப் போகிறது!’ என்று அவர் மனம் சொல்லிற்று.

தேங்காய் தாமத விஷயம், அதற்குள் அவரையும் எட்டி விட்டிருந்தது. ‘யார் சீட்டுக் கிழியப் போகிறதோ?’
என்று கவலை.

“இன்னிக்கு என்ன விசேஷம் தெரியுமோன்னோ?”

“…வ…வரலட்சுமி விரதம்…”

“உங்காத்திலே பூஜை பண்றதுண்டோ?”

“உண்டு….”

“தாழம்பூ, பழங்கள், தேங்காய்…எல்லாம் வாங்குவியோ?”

“வாங்குவேன்..”

“உன்னண்டை காசு இருக்கு. விலைக்கு வாங்க முடியும். காசு இல்லாதவா என்ன பண்ணுவா?…”

பதிலில்லை.

“இதப் பாரு…மடத்துச் சிப்பந்திகள் எல்லோரும் ஏழைபாழைகள். சம்பளமோ,சொற்பம். விலை கொடுத்து
தேங்காய் – பழம் வாங்க முடியாது. அதனாலே, என்ன பண்றே?…இனிமேல் வரலட்சுமி விரதம்,
பிள்ளையார் சதுர்த்தி, கோகுலாஷ்டமி…இப்படியான பண்டிகை தினத்திலே  தேங்காய், பழங்கள், கறிகாய்கள்… சங்கராந்திக்கு அதிகப்படியா கரும்பு – இஞ்சிக் கொத்து – மஞ்சக் கொத்து எல்லாம் மடத்தில் கைங்கர்யம் செய்யறவாளுக்கு வாங்கிக் கொடுக்கணும்.

“ஆக்ஞை…” என்று வணங்கிவிட்டுச் சொன்னார் மானேஜர்.

“இல்லேன்னா, சந்த்ரமௌளீஸ்வரர் பூஜைக்கு வைக்கிற சாமான்கள் மாயமா மறைஞ்சு போயிண்டிருக்கும்!”

An auspicious Friday on a Sravana (Avavni) Month, Varalakshmi Vratham – Special day in which women observe and perform Puja Worship.

As usual Sri Mahaperiyava was performing Puja. Abisheka got completed for Sri Matha Sri MahaTripuraSundari Sametha Sri Chandramouliswara Swami. Alankara got over. Archana completed.Next Dupa, Deepa and Naivedhya. Coconuts need to be crushed. But they were not there in their usual place.

Disciple working in the kitchen baffled for a minute! Needed five to six coconuts immediately.

A flash occurred as a thought. He ran into kitchen rapidly and came back with broken coconuts to Puja hall. Even then, the Naivedhya for Puja got delayed by a minute or two.

Puja matters got over.

“Why was there a delay in bringing coconuts for Puja” no one was asked this question by Sri MahaPeriyava.

Neither did He take Biksha. Asked for the Manager. He came and stood attentively. “Seems a storm is going to explode” thought the manager.

Coconut delay matter has reached quickly to Him too. “Whose job is going off?” is the concern for the manager.

“May be you are aware what is the specialty today?”

“..Va.. Varalakshmi Vratham…”

“Do you perform Puja at your Home?”

“Indeed.. yes”

“Flowers, Fruits and Coconuts. Will you buy these?”

“Yes, Will buy..”

“You have money. You can buy for a price. Those who don’t have money, what will they do?..”.

No reply.

“See all the Mutt’s volunteers are poor. Paltry salary. Can’t buy the coconuts and fruits for money. Hence, hereafter, for Varalakshmi Vratha, Pillayar Chaturthi, Gokulashtami and the festivals alike…Coconuts, Fruits, Vegetables and additionally sugarcane for Sankaranthi, Ginger heaps, Turemeric heaps etc should be brought and given to Mutt’s staff.

“Instruction..” prostrated Manager and left.

“Otherwise all the Puja offerings meant for Sri Chandramouliswara will keep getting vanished!”
