95 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முந்திய மகாமகத்தில் காஞ்சி பெரியவர்.

(தேச பக்தரான சுப்பிரமணிய சிவா தன் உடல்நிலையையும் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் பட்டீஸ்வரம் வந்து பெரியவரைத் தரிசிப்பதற்காக மக்களோடு மக்களாக காத்து நின்றார்.)

1921ம் ஆண்டு நடந்த மகாமகம் நிகழ்ச்சியில் காஞ்சிப் பெரியவர் கலந்து கொண்ட நிகழ்வு பற்றி பெரியவருடன் 50 ஆண்டுகள் சீடராக இருந்து பணிசெய்த வைத்தியநாதன் மற்றும் குமரேசன் ஆகியோர் நினைவு கூர்ந்தனர்.

1957ம் ஆண்டில் ராமச்சந்திரபுரம் சாம்பமூர்த்தி சாஸ்திரிகள், சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட் முன்னாள் நீதிபதி சந்திரசேகர அய்யர் ஆகியோர் எழுதி வெளியிட்ட “ஜகத்குரு திவ்ய சரித்திரம்’ என்ற நூலில் உள்ள அரிய தகவல்களை அவர்கள் எடுத்துக் கூறினர்.

மகாமகத்தன்று அதிகாலையில் மகாபெரியவர் மகாமக குளத்துக்கு வந்து விடுவார். தனக்கென ஒதுக்கப்பட்ட பகுதியில் பக்தர்களுக்கு எந்த வித இடையூறும் இல்லாமல் நீராடுவார். வேத விற்பன்னர்களுடன் கும்பகோணத்திலுள்ள எல்லா கோவில்களுக்கும் சென்று வழிபடுவார். மடத்திற்கு வரும் ஏழைகளுக்கு பிரசாதமும், வஸ்திரமும் வழங்கப்படும்.

1921ம் ஆண்டில் நடந்த மகாமகத்தின் போது பெரியவர் கும்பகோணம் விஜயம் செய்திருந்தார். இந்தியாவில் மிகவும் மகிமை வாய்ந்த மகாமக குளத்தில் மைய மண்டபம் கட்ட விரும்பிய பெரியவர் அவ்வூரில் உள்ள தண்ணீர் குன்னம் உடையார் வம்சத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ராமபத்ர உடையாரிடம் அந்த பணியைச் செய்து தரும்படி உத்தரவிட்டார். அதற்காக 500 ரூபாய் மடத்தில் இருந்து கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. பொதுமக்களிடம் மேலும் நன்கொடை வசூலித்து மண்டபம் கட்ட முயற்சி எடுக்கப்பட்டது. ஆனால் தண்ணீர் மட்டத்திற்கு மேல் ஒரு மேடை மட்டுமே கட்டப்பட்டது.

அந்த ஆண்டின் மகாமகத்தில் பொதுசேவை செய்ய சென்னை முஸ்லிம் இளைஞர் சங்கத்தில் இருந்து 200 தொண்டர்கள் கும்பகோணம் வந்திருந்தார்கள். மக்கள் கூட்டத்தில் அவர்கள் செய்த ஒப்பற்ற பணியை பெரியவர் நேரில் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்தார். அவர்கள் எல்லாரும் 22 வயதிற்கு உட்பட்டவர்கள். சேவை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்ற ஆவல் அவர்களின் முகத்தில் பிரதிபலித்தது.

அவர்களை கும்பகோணம் அருகிலுள்ள பட்டீஸ்வரம் தேனுபுரீஸ்வரர் கோவிலுக்கு அழைத்து வரும்படி பெரியவர் உத்தரவிட்டார்.

ஒவ்வொருவருடனும் பேசி அவர்களது பெற்றோர் மற்றும் கல்வி பற்றி அன்புடன் விசாரித்தார். எல்லாருக்கும் உணவு வழங்கினார். அவர்கள் செய்த சேவையைப் பாராட்டி ஒரு வெள்ளிக்கோப்பையை அவர்களது சங்கத்திற்கு பரிசாக அளித்தார்.

அதே ஆண்டில் காங்கிரஸ் தலைவர் பந்துலு தலைமையில் பணியாற்றிய தொண்டர்களுக்கும் பெரியவர் வெள்ளிக்கோப்பை பரிசு வழங்கினார்.

தேச பக்தரான சுப்பிரமணிய சிவா தன் உடல்நிலையையும் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் பட்டீஸ்வரம் வந்து பெரியவரைத் தரிசிப்பதற்காக மக்களோடு மக்களாக காத்து நின்றார்.

அவரைப் பார்த்த பெரியவர் தொண்டர்களை அனுப்பி தன்னிடம் அழைத்து வரச் செய்தார். அதைப் பார்த்து சிவா உள்ளம் மகிழ்ந்தார். அப்போது அவர் துறவிகளுக்கான உடையை அணிந்திருந்தார். அந்நிய ஆட்சியில் இருந்து பாரதம் விடுபடவேண்டும் என்றும் மக்கள் எல்லாரும் பக்தியோடு இருக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் அருள்பாலிக்குமாறு பெரியவரிடம் கேட்டுக் கொண்டார். பெரியவரும் அவ்வாறே அருள்பாலித்தார்.

Kanchi Periyava at Kumbakonam ‘Mahamagam’ – 95 years ago

(Patriot Sri Subramaniya Siva, setting aside his health condition had come to Patteeswaram and waited as one among the general public to have dharshan of Periyava)

Sri Vaidhyanathan and Sri Kumaresan who were disciples and rendered service to Kanchi Periyava for 50 years, recollected memories of the ‘Mahamagam’ happened in 1921 in which Periyava had participated.

They quoted many rare information mentioned in the book ‘ Jagathguru Divya Charithram ‘, written and published in 1957 by Ramachandrapuram Sambasiva Sastrigal and Retd Supreme Court Judge Sri Chandrasekara Iyer.

On the day of Magamagam, MahaPeriyava will arrive at the ‘Mahamagam’ Tank early in the morning. He will bath at the place reserved for him without causing any hindrance to the other devotees. Along with Vedic scholars, he will visit and worship at all the Temples at Kumbakonam. Prasadam and Vastram will be offered to the poor who visit the ‘Matam’.

During the ‘Mahamagam’ occurred in the year 1921, Periyava had visited Kumbakonam. Periyava desired to build a Central Mantapam in India’s most divine ‘Mahamagam’ tank and ordered Ramabadra Udayar who belonged to Thanneer Kunnam Udayar lineage of that town, to execute the work.  Rs.500/- was given towards the same from the Matt. Efforts were taken to collect further donations from the general public towards the construction of the Mantapam. But, a platform of base just above water level alone was constructed.

In that year, 200 cadres from Chennai Muslim Youth Forum had come to Kumbakonam for public service at ‘Mahamagam’. Periyava witnessed this person and felt happy about their incomparable service rendered among the crowded people. They were all below 22 years of age. Their faces reflected the eagerness towards offering service.

Periyava instructed to bring them to Patteeswaram Dhenubureeswarar Temple near Kumbakonam.

He affectionately spoke to each one of them and enquired about their Parents and Education. He offered food to all of them. He presented a Silver Cup to their Forum in praise of their services rendered.

In the same year, Periyava also presented a Silver Cup to the cadres served under the leadership of Congress leader Sri Bandhulu.

Patriot Sri Subramaniya Siva, setting aside his health condition, had come to Patteeswaram and waited as one among the public to have Periyava’s dharshan. Periyava saw and sent volunteers to bring Siva to him. Siva heartily witnessed this gesture. Siva had dressed like Saints then. He requested Periyava to bless India to get free from foreign reign and all people to be devoted.

Periyava too blessed the same.
