பெரியவாளிடமே ஶரண் புகுந்த ஒரு தம்பதிக்கு, ஒரே ஒரு பிள்ளை.
ஒருநாள் பெற்றோர் இருவரும் கண்கலங்கி பெரியவா முன் நின்றனர்.
“பெரியவாதான் ரக்ஷிக்கணும்…. எம்பிள்ளைக்கு ஸஹவாஸம் ஸரியில்ல! எங்க போறான், எங்க வரான்னே தெரியல! ஆத்துல ஒழுங்கா வேளாவேளைக்கு ஸந்த்யாவந்தனம், ஸஹஸ்ரநாமம் சொல்லறதில்ல! ஆனா, சர்ச்சுக்கு போயி ப்ரேயர் பண்ணறான்….! பன்னண்டு வயஸ்தான் ஆறது பெரியவா….”
பெரியவா எதுவும் சொல்லாமல் ப்ரஸாதம் குடுத்தனுப்பினார்.
கொஞ்ச நாள் கழித்து பெற்றோர் இருவருமே பதறிக் கொண்டு வந்தனர்…..
“பெரியவா எங்க பாலுவைக் காணோம் ! ஒரு வாரமாச்சு…! தெரிஞ்சவா, ஸொந்தக்காரா எல்லார்கிட்டயும் விஜாரிச்சுட்டோம்….! ரொம்ப பயமாயிருக்கு பெரியவா….”
“இரு இரு….கவலைப்படாத! அவன் வடக்கேயோ, இல்லாட்டா ரொம்ப தூரமாவோ போயிருக்க மாட்டான்…. பொறும்….மையா அவன் இருக்கற இடத்தை யுக்தி பூர்வமா கண்டுபிடிங்கோ!…”
யுக்தியின் மூலமான அறிவாக உள்ள பெரியவாளின் திருவாக்கு வேலை செய்தது!
ரெண்டு மாஸம் அவனைத் தேடு தேடுன்னு தேடி, கண்டு பிடித்தார்கள்! ஆனால் அவனைப் பார்க்கத்தான் முடிந்ததே ஒழிய, அழைத்து வர முடியவில்லை!
கண்களில் கண்ணீர் வெள்ளம்! பெரியவாளிடமே மறுபடியும் தஞ்சம் புகுந்தனர்.
” என்ன? பாலுவைப் பாத்தேளா?”
“பாத்தோம் பெரியவா….அவன் ஏதோ க்றிஸ்துவா நடத்தற அனாதைப் பள்ளிக்கூடத்துல தங்கிண்டு, ஸ்கூலுக்கு போயிட்டு வர்றானாம்..! பெத்தவா நாங்க உஸுரோட இருக்கும்போதே இப்டி பண்ணிட்டானே பெரியவா….! அறியாக் கொழந்தையை காப்பாத்துங்கோ!”
சுற்றி நின்று கேட்டவர்களுக்கே வயிற்றைப் பிசைந்தது என்றால், பெற்றவள் மனஸு என்ன பாடு பட்டிருக்கும்!
“ஒரு கார்யம் பண்ணுங்கோ! அவன் தங்கியிருக்கற ஹாஸ்டல் வாஸல்ல ரெண்டு பேரும் நின்னுக்கோங்கோ…. அவன் ஸ்கூலுக்கு போறதுக்காக வெளியே வரச்சே……”ஶங்கரா! ஶங்கரா!ஶங்கரா!…ன்னு மூணு தடவை சத்தமா கூப்பிடுங்கோ…”
“எம்பிள்ளை எங்கிட்ட வந்துடுவானா பெரியவா?”
அனாதை போல் தன் குழந்தை அலைவதைக் கண்ட அம்மாவின் மனஸை பெரியவா அறிய மாட்டாரா?
“ஶங்கரா! ன்னு பரமேஶ்வரனான ஆச்சார்யாளோட நாமத்துக்கு அவ்ளோ மஹிமை உண்டு! போய் “ஶங்கரா” ன்னு மூணு தடவை கூப்டு….”
ப்ரஸாதம் குடுத்தார்.
பெற்றோர் இருவரும் அந்த ஹாஸ்டல் வாஸலில் நின்று கொண்டு மகன் வெளியே வரும்போது “பெரியவா…. காப்பாத்துங்கோ!” என்று பெரியவாளைப் ப்ரார்த்தனை பண்ணிக்கொண்டு….
“ஶங்கரா! ஶங்கரா! ஶங்கரா!”
மூன்று முறை கூப்பிட்டனர்.
என்ன ஆஸ்சர்யம்!!
பரமேஶ்வரனுடைய திருநாமத்தை கேட்டதும், அந்தப் பையன் திரும்பிப் பார்த்தான், யாருடைய குரல் என்று!
கண்களில் கண்ணீரோடு நிற்கும் பெற்றவர்களை பார்த்தான்!
அவ்வளவுதான்!
“அம்மா!…..அப்பா! ”
அலறிக் கொண்டு, ஓடி வந்து, அம்மாவையும், அப்பாவையும் கட்டிக் கொண்டு அழுதான்! ஸமத்தாக வீட்டுக்கு வந்தான். பெரியவா அனுக்ரஹித்த விபூதியை நெற்றியிலும், உடம்பிலும் பூசி விட்டாள், அம்மா!
மூன்று பேருமாக உடனே பெரியவாளை தர்ஶனம் பண்ண வந்தனர்.
அந்தப் பையனை குறுகுறுவென்று பார்த்துக் கொண்டே….
” என்னப்பா? நீ….என்ன, பீட்டரா? பாலக்ருஷ்ணனா?…..”
பெரியவா கேட்டதும், பையனுக்கு தேள் கொட்டியது போல் இருந்தது! அவனுக்கு அங்கே மூளையையும் மழுங்கப் பண்ணி, ‘ஞானஸ்நானம்’ பண்ணி, அழகான பாலக்ருஷ்ணனை, பீட்டராக்கியிருந்தார்கள்!
“பீட்டர்-னு கரெக்டா சொல்றாளே! அங்க நடந்தது பெரியவாளுக்கு எப்டி தெரியும்?…. ”
வெட்கத்தில், குற்ற உணர்வில், தலையைக் குனிந்து கொண்டான்.
“பாருப்பா! கொழந்தே! நம்மளோடது எவ்ளோவ் பெருமை வாய்ஞ்சதுன்னு மொதல்ல புரிஞ்சுக்கோ…!இதுல இல்லேன்னா, வேற எதுலயுமே இல்ல…”
“மன்னிச்சுக்கோங்கோ பெரியவா….இனிமே இப்டி பண்ண மாட்டேன்”
பையன் நமஸ்காரம் பண்ணினான்.
தப்பே பண்ணாதவனைவிட, தப்பு பண்ணி, திருந்தினவன் நிச்சயம் உயர்வான்.
எல்லாருடைய ரெக்கார்டும் பெரியவா கைலதானே! அதை எழுதறவரும் அவர்தானே!

The couple who had surrendered themselves to Mahaperiyavaa were standing before Him, with tears in their eyes. Afterall, they had a single child.
“Periyavaa must help us…my son has been mingling with unwanted company. We are not sure where he goes, what he does. He does not perform his daily sandhyavandhana or recite sahasranama whereas he has started attending Church regularly
He is just 12 years old, it is very worrying..”
Periyavaa heard them and kept silent. He offered them prasad(am) and sent them home.
Some days later the couple came back, even more worried.
“Periyavaa, our Balu is missing for a week now. We have been enquiring everywhere and with everyone…no trace of him..We are very scared Periyavaa..”
The mahan answered “Wait, wait..do not get worked up. He must have not gone away to the north or even gone very far..patiently look for him…use your tactics and search for him..”
Periyavaa’s words which is the source of all good tactics, started working!
The couple spent 2 months, day after day, searching for their only dear son. They finally found him. However, their happiness was short-lived. They could not bring him back with them.
With floods of tears, they came back to the Mahaguru, sought refuge in Him.
“what happened, did you see Balu?” (HH Mahaperiyavaa)
“Yes, periyavaa, we saw him..but he has joined a christian orphanage and is going to school from there..When his parents are alive, he is already attending a school for orphans…he does not know…please help periyavaa”
If the people gathered around could not digest this, then the plight of the parents was hard to imagine.
Mahaperiyavaa advised “Do something…go stand near the entrance of his hostel, both of you…whenever he comes out to go to school and returns..”
Before he could complete, the aggrieved mother asked “Will he come back to us, periyavaa?”
Of course, Periyavaa was compassion personified, so he could very well understand her situation.
“Utter Shankara! the holy name of Parameswara which is also the nama of acharyal..It has great power, call out Shankara 3 times…”
So saying, he offered them prasad. The parents did as they were told, waiting at the hostel entrance.
When their son came out to go to school, they prayed to Mahaperiyavaa in their heart…and called out…
“Shankara, Shankara, Shankara..” 3 times.
What a surprise!!
The minute the boy heard Parameswara’s name being repeated, he turned back to see whose voice it was.
He saw his parents with tears in their eyes – that was it! He shrieked, ran back to his parents, hugged them, and started crying. This was a moment of transformation for him.
Once they took him back home, they applied the holy ash given by Mahaperiyavaa all over his body.
All 3 of them went to have darshan of the mahan.
Periyava took a sharp look at the boy and enquired “ennappa, are you peter or Balakrishnan??”
The minute the Mahan asked this, the boy felt like a scorpion had stung him.
“How does periyavaa know what happened to me there, how does he know my name was re-christened to peter?”
He felt very guilty – “Please forgive me periyavaa, I will not do this henceforth..”
He prostrated before the karunamoorthy.
The one who realizes his mistake (even more than one who has not done a mistake) is sure to come up.
Periyavaa knows all, after all, is he not the one deciding it?
