ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் பிரம்மச்சாரிகள் அக்னி காரியம், அதாவது ஸமிதா தானம் (சுள்ளிகளை மந்திரபூர்வமாக ஹோமம்) பண்ண வேண்டும். பிக்ஷாசர்யம் (பிக்ஷை எடுத்தல்) செய்ய வேண்டும். அலவணமாக (உப்பில்லாமல்) சாப்பிட வேண்டும். ‘ச்ருத தாரண’த்துக்காகத் தண்டம் வைத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டும். அதாவது எதை அத்தியயனம் பண்ணுகிறானோ அதைக் கெட்டியாக இருத்திக் கொள்வதற்கு அப்படிச் செய்ய வேண்டும். இடிதாங்கி, ஏரியல் என்றெல்லாம் இல்லையா? அப்படி மநுஷ்யனுக்கானது இந்த தண்டம். வேதத்திலுள்ள எல்லா மந்திரங்களும் மறவாமல் மனதில் இருக்கும்படி பாதுகாக்க தண்டம் வேண்டும். பிரம்மச்சாரி மேலே கிருஷ்ணாஜினம் (மான்தோல்) போட்டுக் கொள்ள வேண்டும். மேல் வேஷ்டி போட்டுக்கொள்ளக் கூடாது. எலெக்ட்ரீஷியன் மரத்தின் மேல் நிற்கவேண்டும்; ரப்பர் gloves போட்டுக் கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்கிற மாதிரி ஆத்மிக மின்ஸாரத்துக்கு பெரியவர்கள் இந்த விதிகளைக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

The celibate-student must perform Samithadhanam every day, beg for his food, and take no salt. The staff (Dhandam) helps the student to retain his learning. It is similar to the lightening conductor or the aerial and is scientifically valid as to “fix” these hymns. That is why it should be kept-to safeguard the treasure called the Vedas that the student has acquired.
