Periyava Golden Quotes-101

It is the duty of parents to make sure that, after they are invested with the sacred thread their sons chant the Gayathri every day without fail. Some boys discontinue chanting this mantra the very first day after the upanayana ceremony. Parents must see to it that they don’t. They must also make sure that the children perform the Sandhyavandana without being distracted by cricket matches, cinema, party, meetings, etc. I am not sure how far my urging is going to help, considering nowadays that parents are themselves more interested in clubs, films, meetings and the races than in matters concerning the Self. If there is any realisation on their part that their own lives have been lived in vain, they may perhaps want their children to do better. But will the boys listen to them? In all likelihood they will turn back to tell their parents: “why do you ask us to perform Sandhyavandana and recite the Gayathri? What about you?” – Pujya Sri Kanchi Maha Periyava.

  1. Maha Periva was always very practical when HE addresses a problem. There is no point in blaming parents or children. There should be movement of Maha Periva devotees. There should be a twin pronged approach. First ,one army should educate the children with regard to Gayathri Mantram and its significance and importance. It is easy to format the mind of children. The second army should address the importance of Gayathri and motivate parents to volunteer themselves for this mission by projecting the future of their children..

As parents give importance to medicines, they should be made to realise the importance of future of their children. Once we begin, I am sure we will win.and Maha Periva will bless this initiative.

My plan of free veda padasala to carry forward the vedic heritage to the coming generations. will implement only this style of operations. To bring my plan into reality,,, I am writing four books on Maha Periva’s school of thought and HIS miracles. These books will be Globally sold by projecting the importance of plan and purpose of writing these books..I will explain about this in future.

    Gayathri Rajagopal

    • Namaskaram Srimati Gayathri Rajagopal!
Your points of view and ideas are well thought out.
May Sri Mahapriyavaa Anugraham & Kripa be on your project and all such initiatives for the protection and Renaissance of our Vedic heritage.
      Om Sri Mahaperiyavaa Sharanam!

  2. Yes, right. Most of us are not realizing the value of Gayathri and Sandhyavandanam. We have performed the upanayanam of our son in the month of June 2015 with the Ashirvadams of Periyava. I wanted my son to follow the ritual daily . So, I started doing Sandhyavandanam since the day my son has taken the upadesam so that he won’t question me. I do it in the morning daily . My son’s school starts @6.45 AM . He chants Gayathri 108 times in the morning before going to school and does “Sayam Sandhya” in the evening.

No one is realizing the value of our own brahmin customs. We need to preserve the value of tradition and custom. Parents have to take initiation and make their children to chant Gayathri and perform Sandhyavandanam as a daily ritual. Unless we change, our children doesn’t follow our tradition and it will vanish in our next generation. It doesn’t end with spending money lavishly for this auspicious occasion only for the sake of doing it.

    • Good one Sir! However a word of caution.

I have been told by learned Veda pundits that Gayathri Manthra should not be chanted like normal slokas as you have mentioned above and should be done as part of SandhyaVandhanam. Gayathri Manthra is the highest and root of all Mantras so should chanted with care. That is the reason we do snanam, aachamanam, pranayamam, etc. that cleans us both exterior and interior before doing the japam. I believe there are a few exceptions when you can do the japam as Manaseegam (in mind) but that should not be the norm. Please check with learned one’s on this.

      Ram Ram

      • He chants Gayathri 108 times in the morning after taking bath. Also he chants when he does sayam sandhya in the evening as per norms & as a Part of Sandhyavandanam.. I checked with our Vadhyar too on this who is a Brahmashree and closely associated with Madam. Atleast we should be happy that he is doing it with interest, not out of compulsion. We need to consider exceptions considering the fast paced life in cities and in other countries. Most of the parents doesn’t make their children understand the value of doing “Sandhyavandanam” since they themselves don’t perform it daily.Their job is done once the poonal ritual is done and Gayathri is initiated . This attitude will change only if we teach the value of it to our children irrespective of following the restrictions given in the vedas. Once our children understand , they will pass this on to their next generation and our tradition won’t die.
