Periyava Golden Quotes-97

Everybody must learn his own Veda [the Veda that is his by birth] and other subjects in addition. When we perform upakarma we must start learning new part of the Vedas. Later, at the time of utsarjana, it must be discontinued and the study of the Vedangas taken up. The Vedas, to repeat, must be studied during the six months roughly of Dakshinayana, from the south of Sravana to Taisya. The next six months must be devoted to the study of Vedangas. – Pujya Sri Kanchi Maha Periyava.

  1. Kindly enlighten me as to what the vedaangas and where to learn the same

  2. Sri Sai,

    Pranams.

When Divine quote is posted, it shall be highly helpful to post the meanings for unique words from Sanskrit, after consulting experts… For example, HH Mahaperiyava directs to know (not learn or study) Six Angams of Vedams…

    1. It would be helpful if you post what are the six Veda Angams

    2. When translating to English or any other words of His from native language, one has to be very careful… Keep praying and begging with Him for His Grace in translation… Otherwise it will become apavatham… I am novice… The translation of ” Later, at the time of utsarjana, it must be discontinued”, scares me whether His instructions and directions are translated properly by saying “it must be discontinued”

    Mudithal is poorthi…

Divine words are Ganges and ever flowing…

    Pranams

      Dear Sir,

Thank you for your comments. The English Translation is not done by me but from Hindu Dharma a book published by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan which contains English translation of two volumes of the Tamil Book “Deivatthin Kural”; which is a collection of invaluable and engrossing speeches of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi MahaSwamiji.

The translation source has been taken from Kamakoti.org site as seen in the link below.

On another note, due to bandwidth constraints and lack of knowledge I cannot elaborate on the point you have mentioned about six Veda Angams.
