Those penetrating eyes!

Periyava_Kalki_1978

Thanks to Sri Venkata Subramanian for sending this and other photos. I wanted to share this first and rest later.

This photo has rekindled my memory.  We were living in Dalmiapuram. Those days, one may not purchase every magazine – you can’t afford to. My mother signed up for a magazine circulation club for Rs 5 per month or so. We get Vikatan, Kumudam, Kalki etc. As a 10 year old boy, all you like to see is colorful photos and particularly on the cover page. This one issue is still fresh in my mind because of His penetrating eyes. Seeing this same cover page after three decades is a pleasant feeling.

You can’t take eyes off this one!

Looking back those days, today, we only get garbages from most leading magazines – Vikatan, Kumudam etc. At the same time, more spiritual magazines have come out today – may or may not be at the same level of quality from those days.

Hara Hara Sankara Jaya Jaya Sankara!

  1. Any one who Visits our MahaPeriyava once cannot forget his penetrating blessing Gaze on us. I had an experience in my life shakes me head to foot and i burst in to tears about 35 years back at Kancheepuram. I am still feeling his grace on me and our family a lot. Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara.

  2. Great Picture bringing out Maha Periyava’s Divinity. I recollect this Picture in my youth. Ananda Vikatan publishes Sakthi Vikatan, Kalki publishes Deepam, Kumudam has Bhakthi Kumudam and Vaara Jothidam carrying good religious articles. To that extent we should be happy. Hara Hara Shankara, Jaya Jaya Shankara!

  7. The author has rightly and boldly categorized the photos and articles in
magazine like Vikatan , Kumudham etc. published now-a-days. as GARBAGE

Once (1958) HH Maha Periyava told , , BalaSubramanian, (Son of the Great , Sri S.S. Vasan, the then Editor of Ananda Vikatan…….about ‘Pathirigai Dharmam’ .
HH Sri Maha Periyva was then camping in Sankaralayam, Mylapore.
HH told Bala Subramanian. that, ‘many of my devotees read Ananda Vikatan. So I want
the magazine they read should be Good to read. He explained what He expected of the magazine and told him.to remember what He said, when he becomes Editor. The details are available in the book ‘ANBE ARULE’ written by ‘Bharanidharan’ who was present during the visit. The book was published by
    Vikatan itself.
The above Geetopadesam was on a Deepavali day.
