ருத்ராக்ஷத்தின் பெருமை மிக அதிகம். ருத்ராக்ஷத்தைச் சிவபெருமானுடைய அடையாளமாகப் பெரியவர்கள் சொல்லுகிறார்கள். ருத்ரனுடைய நேத்திரம் அது. அதைத் தமிழில் ‘திருக்கண்மணி’ என்று சொல்லுவார்கள். மற்ற விருக்ஷங்களுடைய விதைகளுக்கு இல்லாத ஒரு சிறப்பு இந்த ருத்ராக்ஷத்திற்கு உண்டு. இயற்கையில் துளையோடு உண்டாவது ருத்ராக்ஷம் ஒன்றுதான். இந்த ருத்ராக்ஷம் பாரத தேசத்தில் நேபாளத்தில் இருக்கிறது.

Rudraksham has many great significance. Knowledgeable people say Rudraksham is the sign of Lord Siva. It is considered the eye of Rudra. In Tamizh they call Rudraksha as ‘Thirukanmani’ (the pupil inside the eye). Rudraksha tree has a great significance that other trees don’t have. Only Rudraksha has a hole naturally and not man made.
