16. பசு இன்றேல் வேள்வி/யஜ்ஞம் இல்லை
Jaya Jaya Shankara Hara Hara Shankara – How many of us realize this fact and remember Mother Cow gratefully every time when we do homam in our home or temple? Right from Vratti, Milk, Ghee, Curd, Panchagavam, Butter, Ghomeyam, Mother cow gives us all for that is needed for Yajnas/Homams. Not long ago, every family in Bharatha Desam had a couple of cows in their backyard, which remains a wistful thought these days. We also need to realize that our native breed (Naatu Madu) contains special powers like Surya Ketu nerve on her back that absorbs and cleanses atmospheric pollution, similar to plants, but have a much more potent range and impact (Remember the Bhopal Post?). This is absent in foreign breeds like Jersey (mix of cow and pig) which foreigners brought into our motherland to spoil the Sannithyam of our native breeds; shudder to think how yagnas, the very root of vedas will happen if Mother Cow becomes extinct, which unfortunately is rapidly dwindling with our native breeds being substituted by some hybrid breeds. அபிஷேகம் பக்தி வழிபாட்டில் வருவது. அதற்கு முக்யமாக ஆகமங்களும் புராணங்களும் ப்ரமாணம். அவற்றை விடவும் நம்முடைய மதத்துக்கு மூல ப்ரமாணமாயிருப்பது வேதமே. அதன் அடிப்படையில்லாமல் ஆகம, புராணங்களுக்கு ப்ராமாண்யம் (ப்ரமாணமாகும் தன்மை) இல்லை.
வேதம் ஏதோ நம்முடைய தேசத்துக்கு மட்டுமேயானது என்று நினைத்தால் அதைவிடப் பெரிய தப்பில்லை. நம்முடைய தேசத்தில் மட்டும்தான் வேதத்துக்கு ப்ரயோகம், கர்ம பூமியான இந்த பரத கண்டத்தில் மட்டும்தான் வேத கர்மாக்கள் செய்தால் பலன் உண்டு என்றாலும் அந்தப் பலன் இந்த தேசத்துக்கானது மட்டுமில்லை. ஸகல லோகத்துக்கும் பலனை உத்தேசித்துத்தான் இங்கே நம் தேசத்தில் வைதிக கர்மா செய்வது. ஹ்ருதயத்திலிருந்து ரத்தம் சரீரம் பூராவுக்கும் பாய்கிற மாதிரி இங்கே செய்யும் வைதிக அநுஷ்டானங்கள் லோகம் முழுதற்கும் க்ஷேமங்களைப் பாய்ச்சிவிடும். அதாவது வேதம் இருந்தால்தான் லோகமே நன்றாக இருக்கும்; லோக க்ஷேமமே இங்கே நம்முடைய தேசத்தில் செய்கிற வைதிகமான யஜ்ஞ கர்மானுஷ்டானாதிகளில்தான் இருக்கிறது. அதைப் பற்றிக் கொஞ்சங்கூட ஸந்தேஹப்பட வேண்டாம். அப்படி லோகத்தையே வாழ்விப்பது யஜ்ஞம்; வேள்வி என்பது. அதற்கு இரண்டு அவசியமானவை. ஒன்று யஜ்ஞம் பண்ணுகிற கர்த்தாவான ‘யஜமானன்’. இன்னொன்று யஜ்ஞத்தில் உபயோகமாகிற அதி முக்யமான த்ரவ்யங்களைத் தருகிற கோதான்.
யஜ்ஞத்தில் முக்யமாக ஆஹுதி கொடுக்கப்படும் த்ரவ்யம் பசுவிடமிருந்து பெறுகிற நெய்யே. ஆஜ்யம் என்று அதைச் சொல்வது. ‘ஹவிஸ்’ – தமிழில் அதுவே ‘அவி’ என்று வரும்; அந்த ஹவிஸ் – என்பதே யஜ்ஞத்தில் ஆஹுதி கொடுக்கப்படும் பலவிதமான த்ரவியங்களுக்கும் பொதுப் பெயராயினும், குறிப்பாக ஹவிஸ் என்றால் பசும் நெய்தான். மற்ற ஆஹுதி த்ரவியங்களையும் நெய்யால் தடவி சுத்தம் செய்துதான் ஹோமம் செய்ய வேண்டும்.
அக்னிஹோத்ரம் முதலான பல யஜ்ஞங்களில் கோக்ஷீரம் ஹோமம் செய்யப்படுகிறது. ததி என்கிற தயிரும் ஹோம த்ரவ்யமாக ப்ரயோஜனமாகிறது. ஸத்துமா என்கிற ஸக்துவும் தயிரும் கலந்து ததி ஸக்து ஹோமம் என்று செய்வார்கள்.
நெய், பால், தயிர் அக்னியில் ஹோமமாகின்றனவென்றால், அந்த அக்னியை வளர்த்துக் கொடுப்பதே எது? கோமயத்தைப் போட்டுத் தட்டிய வரட்டிதானே?
ஆகையினால் கோ இல்லாவிட்டால் யஜ்ஞம், வேள்வி என்பதே இல்லை.

16. No Yajna without the Cow
Abhishekam is part of devotional worship. Agamas and puranas are the authority for the same. More than all that, the basic authority for our religion are the Vedhas. Without the support of the Vedhas, agamas and puranas cannot have a status of being the authority.
If it is thought that Vedhas are meant only for our country, there cannot be a greater mistake. Vedhas are recited only in our country and only if Vedha karmas are performed here in Bharath (which is karma bhoomi), they are fruitful. But the fruit is not only for this country. We do Vaidhika karmas here keeping in mind the good of the entire world. Just as the blood flows from the heart to all parts of the body, the Vaidhika anushtanas we observe here bestow welfare on the whole world. In other words, the world will be there only if the Vedhas are there. The welfare of the world depends on the yajnas and other Vaidhika karmas done here. There need be no doubt about it. Yajnas give life to the whole world. Two things are very necessary for the same. One is the person who performs the yajnam (yajamanan) and the other is the cow that gives the important materials to be used in the yajna.
The important ‘ahuthi’ offered in yajna is the cow’s ghee. All the things that are offered in yajnam have the common name ‘havis’. But ‘havis’ particularly means the cow’s ghee. Even the other things are offered only after cleaning them with ghee. In agnihothram and other yajnas, cow’s milk is offered in the homam. Curd is also used in the homa. If ghee, milk and curd become homa themselves in the fire, it is the cow dung cake that keeps the fire glowing. Therefore, if there is no cow, there will be no yajna.
