Although I heard this news almost 6 months back, I wasn’t sure when it would be announced officially..I got the email yesterday from Shri Sundar Varadarajan. Sources tell me that the new acharya and his family are all great devotees of Kanchi Mahaswami! Thanks to Shri Suresh P for the photo.
Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peethadhipati Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji has announced His Shishya Sweekara. The Jagadguru Mahaswamiji made the announcement, divinely inspired by Goddess Sharadamba in His Anugraha Bhashanam given during the culmination of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of His Peetharohanam. The Jagadguru has chosen Brahmachari Kuppa Venkateshwara Prasada Sharma to be His Uttaradhikari – the successor-designate to the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham. The Jagadguru announced that the Shishya Sweekara ceremonies will take place on 22nd and 23rd January 2015 at Sringeri. The Jagadguru will initiate the Brahmachari into Sannyasa on 23rd January 2015.
Devotees all over the world have rejoiced at the announcement coming on the joyous occasion of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Jagadguru’s Peetharohanam.

Mr.RS Iyer and Mr.Mani Pls do not utter words as if you only have mouths to speak. Saying Kanchi mutt was established by Mahaperiyava will create a great sin and shiva aparatham on you only.. If u dont accept it or not Kanchi Mutt was the Moolamnaya Peetam and it does not require any proof. Just read mukka kavi and other acharya puranas you will realise the same. Dont compare Mutts and Procedures.. Try to concentrate on Bhakti and Gnana to attain bliss. Mahaperiyava was Lord Shiva Incarnate.. I am sure no one has had followed dharma and sastras like Mahaperiyava… All mutts propel the same idea and thier goal is our progress.. U guys out there are behaving like Marketing people.. THats it its up to you to make any unwanted statements hereon. i am telling this for your progress. Pls dont comment on things that are beyond our scope.. WHich acharya What he does these are unneccessary for a spiritual aspirant. Getting a Brahmana Janma that to into a advaitic brahmana ashrama is something precious. DOnt waste energy .. Meditate on that OM which will give you all knowledge by itself. You will realise how this mutts were established.. this is not an advice and i am just a sign post to caution you.. all the best.. all acharyas are to be Equally Respected and all acharya whether sringeri or kanchi are precious for everyone
It is baseless to have meaningless arguments and spreading unwanted stories.H H Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal of Sringeri is not a person of ordinary intellect. The Swamigal is a great successor of Adi sankaracharya, the 36th in the unbroken chain of Acharyas.Hence we have no business to comment or analyse the decisions of the Jagadguru. It is a sheer waste of time and energy. People of pure spiritual inclination will not indulge in such activities.

The Avichchinna Acharya Parampara continues! I am sure that Bhagavan Adi Sankara’s Devotees, all of us, will feel the Great Happiness when the New Acharya comes to Pattam! I remember the Happiness which Devotees felt when Sri Bala Periyava took Sanyaasam. Seniors would have felt the same when Maha Periyava gave Sanyaasam to Sri Pudu Periyava! I am sure the New Periyava at Sringeri will continue to enrich our lives by His Grace, Compassion and Upadesams! All Mahaans are to be revered and respected! Hara Hara Shankara, Jaya Jaya Shankara!
Appadurai Ramiah, is there any requisite to have seen Mahaperiyava for anybody to be devoted to him? Do you know the family antecedents of the Sringeri Successor Designate? First ascertain all that and then think of commenting. Kindly desist from trying to rake up a controversy when there is no scope for one.
I have known Sringeri swamigals for 55 years, since H H Abhinava Vidyatirtha Swamigal visited our home in Kallidaikurichi in 1959. I have known them not only for their erudition in Sanskrit and the vedas and sastras, but also for their noble character and conduct. Not one of them ever entered into any political controversies or made any public statement inviting trouble. The 34th Pontiff H H Sivaabhinava Nrusimha Bharati swamigal discovered the exact place of birth of Adi Sankara at Kalati and built a temple for him around 1900 A D. This acharya was the first and only one to have published the complete works of Adi Sankara in 20 volumes (now made into 10) – published by Vani Vilas Press in 1910 itself. (These are available in the net today if you care to google!!.) At that time, Kanchi swamigal was not at called as “Sankaracharya”. He was called, “kumbakonam Swamigal” even in 1960s when my grandmother had darshan of him. Kanchi was not even considered as established by Adi Sankara Bhagavadpada. Even in the books published by many scholars like Max Muller, Dr Radhakrishnan and a host of historians and Indologists no one ever mentioned Kanchi mutt as ancient one established by Adi Sankara. Sir C P Ramaswamy Iyer, who represented Hinduism in world conferences in the 1960s, had gone on record saying, “…there is no such thing as Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam…”. The truth is that the mutt in Kumbakonam was originally established by the Dakshinaamnaya Sringeri mutt a few centuries ago and some time later they declared themselves independent. Traditionally, after Adi Sankara, Sringeri pontiffs have been doing the pooja at Rameswaram temple and also appointed the chief poojarys there. Kanchi devotees have been trying to disrupt this recently. But as God willed it, the recent court cases against the Kanchi seers prevented them from doing any further mischief. It is very unfortunate that even after seeing the discourses of the pontiffs of Kanchi and hearing the anugraha bhashanams of Sringeri Acharya, some people do not understand the truth. “The proof of the pudding is in the eating”, goes the popular saying. We may live in the hope that Sri Saradambal (or her other form, Sri Kanchi Kamakshi) should remove their ignorance and make them see the light.

The newly announced Sringeri swami was born only in July 1993 whereas Kanchi periya-swamigal passed away in Jan 1994. Therefore it is no rocket science to infer that this new swamigal of Sringeri was only six months old when the Kanchi Swami passed away. Then how do you think when he was only new born baby, he was a devotee or disciple of Kanchi Swami? Very starnge!! This newly announced Swami’s parents, are mentioned as disciples of Sringeri as per the website of Sringeri mutt and also various newspapers. Now you are telling a new story that they are devotees of Kanchi!! Very strange!!!
Mr. ramiah you truly prove that you have limited knowledge. taking birth before or after does not prove anything. it is beyond that. this is time immemorial and we all have been THEIR devotees since many many births. kanchi swami can take birth any time and any where and is not bound by time. Lord shiva can take multiple incarnations any time any where. it is Lord shiva who has established all the 4 Adi shankaracharaya Matha in all 4 directions in India and HE takes incarnations for all the 4 mathas as maha- Swamigal. so please DO NOT try create any controversies, rather try to gain more wider and deeper knowledge on spirituality. i truly understand it is not easy, that is why have patience and not make judgement. we can NEVER come to that level to understand HIS leela to make any judgements.
so just accept it and not misguide people who want to walk on that path.

As you rightly pointed out that Sri Adi Sankarar established 4 months in 4 directions – Sringeri for South, Dwaraka for West, Badrinath for North and Puri for East and Kanchi was NOT established by Adi Sankarar. Then, how come people say that the new swamigal designate is a sishya of Kanchi? It is utter lie as the New Swamigal designate studied in Sringeri and under the direct guidance of H H Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal for over 5 years. If what you said is correct then, it proves that Sringeri is the better place of Vedanta Studies than Kanchi. Please do not spread wrong news among devotees. Moreover, if people say that Mahaperiyava is great, then how come he anoints his successors, who are more in the news for the wrong reasons?! It has been proved beyond doubt that Sringeri Sharada Peetam is the only Mutt established by Sri Adi Sankarar in South and has successive Guru Parampara till now. Do not spread wrong news and create controversies. For any doubts, you may refer to books written by Varanasi Sri Raj Gopal Sharma, Sri R Krishnasway Iyer, etc.
RSS Mani – If you do not believe in Mahaperiyava, current periyavas etc, what are you doing here in this blog? Kanchi was established by Adi acharya – there is no doubt about that. There are 100 books others can quote to prove you wrong. So do not make this blog a battlefield….If you do not believe in Kanchi, please leave this forum. This is all about Kanchi and that guru parampara.
Very well. Who knows wat is the truth. If wat u said is true then how can u prove that if no one can understand a leela. There is a possibility that he may not know about mahaperiyava. There are a lot of wrong information here.
