Atrocities behind disappearances of cows

We all know that several millions of cows and other cattle are routinely butchered and slaughtered in most inhumane manner in our country, Bharat. From this blog, we are doing a tiny contribution in tho samrakshanam.

What is most unfortunate is that the so-called elected governments who are supposed to uphold the constitutional ban on cow slaughter are themselves directly and indirectly involved in this most heinous of barbaric activities for a variety of both political and economic reasons.  Is a solution really feasible in today’s world?  Sri T.R. Ramesh is an expert on such matters; he has studied such issues at great depth and has struggled all his life to advance some of the most fundamental core concepts of Sanathana Dharma and he provides a succinct and deeply thought-through, yet a feasible way to get rid of this problem plaguing the entire country.

Sri T.R.Ramesh’s article follows:

The solution lies in retrieving our temples from Government control.

I had the honor of presenting the case to drive out Government out of our temples in November 2012 before 70 Acharyas in Ahmedabad in the conference of Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha.

A surprise vistor who came to the conference just as I was about to start my presentation was Shri Narendra Modi. One of the reasons I had cited in the presentation to drive out Government was their interference in religious matters and the annihilation by Government agencies of the Dharmic institutions like Veda Patasalas, Agama Patasalas and Ghosalas attached to temples. While only big temples had Veda Patasalas and Agama Patasalas almost every Temple big, medium or small had a Ghosala attached to it. Now even big temples in Tamil Nadu do not have ghosalas.

Shri Narendra Modi, during his speech in the conference referred a lot to my presentation. He lamented how Congress Government was encouraging cow slaughter in the name of “pink revolution”. (We now know that Kapil Sibal’s wife is one of the biggest beef exporters in India) Shri Modi, in addition to doing  away with HR & CE Act in his state is taking excellent steps to protect our milch and draught cattle.

Cows donated to temples in Tamil Nadu are “given away”  – i.e. written off as given away to “Self-help” Groups and “NGO”s but in reality the Executive Officers of the Rogue HR & CE Department sell them off to butchers.

In one temple – Shri Subramaniaswamy Temple of Tiruchendur – 5,389 cows donated to the temple in a year were “given away” to such non-existent NGOs and Self Help Groups. We need to get back our temples from Govt. control.  Thanks to Chidambaram Temple Judgment, this is the best time to do it.

We must also ensure that the Supreme Court orders that Temple Properties should fetch market rent. The Supreme Court has passed an order to this effect for Wakf properties. So it wont be difficult to get a similar order.

There are 4.78 lakhs acres of agricultural land belonging to temples. The market value of immovable properties will give an immediate income of Rs.2,000 Crores per annum and go up to Rs. 6,000 crores per annum in a couple of years.

With the kind of income temple properties can fetch and with the available lands we can ensure that not one of our cows would be available for butchery.

In my considered opinion that is the way to THWART Government’s initiatives to open slaughter houses.

Lets not delay retrieving our temples any longer.

  1. I fully agree and support the above thinking

  2. I think it is high time we get rid of HR&CE lock, stock and barrel. In fact, we should have a constitutional ban on any government interference in Hindu temple activities as they have neither the authority nor the scriptural knowledge.

Also, we should strive to make it mandatory, as in the earlier days when kings ruled our country, to have the govt ministers, prime ministers to possess the required minimum qualification for governance, without which they should not be allowed to even contest the elections.

Let all the leading lawyers/ attorneys/judges devoted to Mahaperiyava come forward and take this as their kaingaryam towards Mahaperiyava and our great motherland, Bharat.

  4. If HRCE officers sell off cows to butchers, they must be severely punished. Unfortunately this HRCE was created by none other than revered Sri Rajaji. He could not have thought at that time about the extent to which crooked politicians and Govt. officials could go. It is time the new Govt. at the Centre puts the rogue States under control. It is time for strong action. Jaya Jaya Shankara, Hara Hara Shankara!
