“தீபாவளியைக் கொண்டாடுவதன் தாத்பர்யம்”

கண்ணன், நரகாசுர சம்ஹாரம் செய்ததைக் கண்டு, நரகாசுரனின் தாயாருக்குதுக்கம் பொங்கியது. “என் பிள்ளை போய்விட்ட துக்கம் உண்டு. இருப்பினும்உலகத்தாருக்கு எந்த துக்கமும் வரக் கூடாது. இந்த நாளில், அனைவரும்சந்தோஷமாக இருக்க வேண்டும் என வேண்டினாள்! “இந்த வேண்டுகோள்தான், தீபாவளிப் பண்டிகைக்கு தனிப்பெருமை சேர்ந்தது. “நாம் துன்பப் பட்டாலும் பரவாயில்லை. உலகம் க்ஷேமமாக இருக்க வேண்டும்“ எனும்மனப்பான்மையை வள்ர்த்துக் கொள்வதுதான் தீபாவளியைக் கொண்டாடுவதன்“தாத்பர்யம்“ என்று அருளியுள்ளார் ஸ்ரீ மகா ஸ்வாமிகள்.

தீபாவளிக்கு மூன்று குளியல்:

* தீபாவளியன்று நமக்கு இருவிதமான குளியலை செய்யும்படி சாஸ்திரம்குறிப்பிடுகிறது. அன்று வெந்நீரில் அதிகாலைப் பொழுதில் ஓரு முகூர்த்தநேரம் கங்கை நதியே இருப்பதாக ஐதீகம். அதனால், அந்த நேரத்தில்எண்ணைய் ஸ்நானமாக வெந்நீரில் குளிக்க வேண்டும். அப்போது, நரகாசுரன்,சத்திய பாமா, கிருஷ்ணர், பூமாதேவி நினைவு நமக்கு வரவெண்டும். இதற்கு“கங்கா ஸ்நானம்“ என்று பெயர்.

* வெந்நீர் குளியலுக்குப்பின், சூரியன் உதிந்த பின், ஆறு நாழிகை நேரம்வரை, காவிரி உட்பட எல்லா புனித நதிகளும் குளிர்ந்த நீரில் இருப்பதாகஐதீகம். ஆப்பொது, குளிர்ந்த நீரில் குளிக்க வேண்டும். இதற்கு, “துலாஸ்நானம்” என்று பெயர். இரண்டாம் ஸ்நானத்தில் பரமேஸ்வரன் நினைவுவரவேண்டும்.

* வெளி உடம்பினை தூய்மையாக்கின பின், பெரிய ஸ்நானம் ஒன்றுண்டு.அதுதான் நம் உள் அழுக்கை எல்லாம் அகற்றும் “கோவிந்தேதி ஸதாஸ்நானம்“ அப்போது, நம் ஜீவன் தூய்மையாகிறது. பெரிய ஸ்நானம் என்றுசொன்னதால், மற்ற இரண்டும் முக்கியமில்லை என்று எண்ணிவிடக்கூடாது.இந்த மூன்றுமே முக்கியம் தான் என்பதை உணர்ந்து, ஸ்நானம்செய்யுங்கள்.

தீபாவளிப் பண்டிகையை ” பகவத் கீதையின் தம்பி“ என்பார் ஸ்ரீ காஞ்சிமகா ஸ்வாமிகள். கீதைகள் பல இருந்தாலும், பகவத் கீதை தனிப்பெருமைபெற்றதாகஎப்படி உள்ளதோ, அதேபோல் பண்டிகைகள் பல இருப்பினும் தனிப் பெருமையுடன்திகழ்கிறது தீபாவளித் திருநாள். — காஞ்சிப் பெரியவர்

The significance of celebrating Deepavali

Narakasuran’s mother was desolate at the death of her son in the hands of Lord Krishna. “Yes, I am grieving at the loss of my son. Despite this, I want the people of the world to be always happy and no sadness should befall them”, prayed she. “Only this special request of her has added lustre to the Deepavali festival. Despite one’s own suffering, people should cultivate the mentality of wishing that the world should remain happy and prosperous — this is the significance of Deepavali’, thus spake Mahaswamigal.

Three baths must be taken for Deepavali:

1) Sastras stipluate two kinds of bath on Deepavali. On this holy day there is a belief that Ganges Herself is present in the warm water during the auspicious time early morning. Hence during that time, one must apply the holy oil on the head and the erst of the body and taken bath in warm water. And while we are taking this holy bath we should be thinking of Narakasuran, Satyabhama, Lord Krishna, Bhoomadevi. This kind of bath is called as ‘Ganga Snanam’

2) After the Ganga Snanam in warm water early in the morning, All the holy rivers including Cauvery are believed to in the cold water for upto 6 nazhigai ie 2 hours and 24 minutes after sunrise. (1 nazhigai is equal to 24 minutes). During that time one must take bath in cold water. It is called as ‘Thula Snanam’. One should invoke Parameswaran in one’s mind during this second bath.

3) After the body exterior is cleansed, there is one more Paramount Snanam (Bath) that needs to be undertaken. That is the Bath which will cleanse us of our impurities in our minds. It is called as ‘Govinda Snanam’. It is the act of always having Govinda in our minds, lips and Heart! Doing this purifies our Life, our Soul. Just because I referred to this third one as very important does not mean that the first two any less important. Take these baths with the understanding that all three of them are vital!

Swamigal used to refer to Deepavali festival as the ‘Younger Brother of Bhagavad Gita’. Just like Bhagavad Gita is Supreme despite there being so many other Gitas, so too is Deepavali special despite there being other festivals.
