…. அன்று பெரியவர் கி.வா.ஜ.விடம் கேட்ட கேள்வி.
‘இரண்டுக்குமே அங்கே ஆதாரம் உண்டு’ என்றார் கி.வா.ஜ.’
‘எப்படி?’ என்று கேட்டார் பெரியவர்.
‘வடநாட்டார் பாலாஜி என்று அந்த ஆண்டவனை அழைக்கிறார்கள். பாலனாக இருப்பவன் முருகன் தான். அடுத்து, வெள்ளிதோறும் திருமலையில் இன்றும் வில்வத்தால் அர்ச்சனை நடக்கிறது. மேலும், மலைகளுக்கெல்லாம் தலைவன் முருகன்தான் என்பது வழக்கு. அவன் குறிஞ்சி நிலக் கடவுளல்லவா?’என்றார் கி.வா.ஜ.. ‘சரி! இதில் உன்னுடைய கருத்து என்ன?’ – என்று கேட்டார் பெரியவர்.
‘பழங்காலத்தில் அங்கே முருகன் கோயிலும், திருமால் கோயிலும் இருந்திருக்க வேண்டும். திருமால் கோயிலுக்கு சிறப்பு வரவர, முருகன் கோயில் மறைந்திருக்க வேண்டும். இதுதான் என் கருத்து’ என்றார் கி.வா.ஜ.
ஆனால், பெரியவர் தன் கருத்தாகச் சொன்னது என்ன தெரியுமா?
‘ஏதோ ஒரு புராணத்தில் அங்கே இரண்டு சக்திகள் இருப்பதாகப் படித்திருக்கிறேன். ஒன்று கௌமாரி; இன்னொன்று வைஷ்ணவி. அதனால்தான் அந்த கோயில் மதில்சுவரில் சிங்க வாகனம் உள்ளது!
திருமால் ஆலயம்தான் என்றால் கருட வாகனம் இருக்கும். முருகன் கோயிலாக இருந்தால் மயில் வாகனம் இருக்கும். ஆனால், சக்திக்கு வாகனமான சிம்மம்தான் அங்கே உள்ளது. தொண்டை மண்டலத்தில், சக்தி க்ஷேத்திரத்தில் சிம்மம்தான் இருக்கும். ஒரு காலத்தில் திருப்பதி, தமிழ்நாட்டின் தொண்டை மண்டலத்தோடுதான் சேர்ந்திருந்தது. பின், அரசியல் காரணங்களால் மொழிவாரியாக மாநிலம் பிரிக்கப்பட்டதில் ஆந்திராவோடு சேர்ந்து விட்டது. இரண்டு சக்திகளுக்கான கோயிலாக அது இருப்பதனால் – முருகன் கோயில் என்றும், திருமால் கோயில் என்றும் சொல்வது பொருந்துகிறது’ என்றார்.
பிறகு அங்கு இருக்கும் மடத்துச் சிப்பந்தியிடம் ‘எனக்கு திருப்பதியில் கொடுத்த பரிவட்டம் உள்ளே இருக்கிறது. அதைக் கொண்டுவா’ என்று பணித்தார். அவரும் அந்த பரிவட்ட ஆடையைக் கொண்டு வந்தார். அதை கி.வா.ஜ.விடம் கொடுத்து அளக்கச் சொன்னார். கி.வா.ஜ.வுக்கோ ஒரே பரவசம்.
ஏனென்றால், அந்த பரிவட்டம் திருப்பதி பெருமாளுக்கு சாத்தியபின் பெரியவருக்கும் சாத்தப்பட்டது. இப்படி இருவர் திருமேனியைத் தழுவியதை அவர் தழுவும்போது சிலிர்ப்பு ஏற்படத்தானே செய்யும்?
கி.வா.ஜ.வும் அதை அளந்து பார்த்தார். சரியாக முப்பத்தி ஆறு முழங்கள் இருந்தது. இதுபோன்ற பரிவட்ட ஆடைகளை திருப்பதி தேவஸ்தானத்துக் கென்றே பிரத்யேகமாக தறிபோட்டு நெய்வது வழக்கம். இதற்கென்றே நெசவாள கிராமம் ஒன்று உள்ளது. அவர்களுக்கும் காலம் காலமாக முப்பத்தாறு முழம்தான் கணக்கு. கி.வா.ஜ.வும் முப்பத்தாறு முழம் இருப்பதைக் கூறினார். உடனேயே பெரியவர், ‘நம்மவர்களில் பெண்கள் பதினெட்டு முழம் கட்டுகிறார்கள். இரண்டு பெண்களுக்கு என்றால் முப்பத்தி ஆறு தானே?’ என்று கேட்டார். அதாவது வைஷ்ணவி, கௌமாரி என்னும் கணக்கில்… சமத்காரமான அந்த கருத்தும் கேள்வியும் கி.வா.ஜ.வுக்கு பிறகே புரிந்தது. அதேசமயம் திருமலை எப்படி திருமாலின் கோயிலாக பெரும்புகழை அடைந்தது, ஏன் சக்தி தலமாக தொடரவில்லை என்கிற கேள்வியும் எழுந்தது. பெரியவர் அதற்கும் பதிலைச் சொன்னார்:
‘இன்றும் இரண்டு சக்திகளின் செயல்பாடுகளும் அங்கே அனுக்கிரகமாக மாறி வெளிப்பட்டபடிதான் உள்ளது. கௌமார சக்திக்கு முருகனையும், வைஷ்ண விக்கு திருமாலையும் அடிப்படையாகச் சொல்வார்கள். இதில் இருவருக்கும் மாமன் மருமகன் உறவு முறை உண்டு. அவ்வகையில் மாமனே பெரியவர் என்பதால், மருமகன் மாமனுக்குள் ஐக்கியமாகி விட்டார் எனலாம். இது ஒரு கோணம்.
அடுத்து, காத்து ரட்சிப்பதில் திருமாலே முன் நிற்பவர். ‘சர்வம் விஷ்ணுமயம் ஜகத்’ என்பது வழக்கு. சித்தாந்தப்படி அவனே எல்லாமுமானவன். அவனுக்குள் எல்லாமே அடக்கம். அடுத்து, அது ஏழாவதாக உள்ள மலைமேல் உள்ள ஆலயம்! அதில் ஆறு சுடர்களில் மலர்ந்த ஆறுமுகன் அடங்கிவிடுகிறான் என்றும் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளலாம்.

An Islamic University is coming up 11 km from Tirupati.
“Would The Saudi Government allow a Hindu Temple to come up near Mecca?
Global Hindu Heritage Foundation (GHHF) was able to get about ten pictures of the building and the nearby places. Many of our friends have been trying to find out the sinister plans of starting Islamic College near Tirupathi. Following information is being provide for your purview :
1. The seven layer/storied building is being constructed in Chandragiri village which is about 13 kilometers from Tirupathi.
2. There is big sign posted on the main road to indicate that it is the home of “Heera International Islamic College (HIIC).” On the same sign board it is written “Women Arabic College.”
3. Down below the sign board, on the ground there is a sign “Swarnamukhi River Rejuvenation Project.” The name Chandragiri is also printed on the sign board.
4. HIIC is being built approximately in a seven-acre lot. It appears that this land is parceled into few pieces of lots.
5. It is noted that this land was acquired in 2007. Research is ongoing for the authenticity as well as the circumstances under which this land was acquired”

This reminds me of the old joke: How many teeth does a horse have? The way to find the answer is to catch a horse and verify, not to quote authorities like Aristotle. it is so easy to verify the matter directly, but we are not prepared to face facts but are only interested in defending our opinion.
But there is a greater irony. People are trying to establish an Islamic University in the famous temple town. Instead of fighting that, we are arguing among ourselves about the Murti in the temple! We cannot perceive a common danger and unite to fight it, but only engage in unproductive arguments. This is how Hindu India was lost and is still losing. We have not learnt anything from history. How sad!
Your are absolutely correct. As long as it is a Hindu temple, you go and pray according to you.r interest. Why the fighting amongst us. If you fight you give room to others to enter into it.
It doesnt matter “which God” is in Thirupathi as all these “names” are various ways to reach / worship “one god”…if God is Supreme there cannot be more than “one supreme” right?

A lot of anecdotes about the original status of Thirupathi Temple exist. Today Lord Venkatachalapathy or Ezhumalaiyaaan Presides over Kali Kaalam and Blesses everyone of us. When He has Bilvaarchana, He is Lord Siva and Goddess Mahalakshmi. When He wears a Saree and a Metti in His Toes, He is Ambal Svaroopam. He has Her Simha Vaahanam on the walls of the Temple. When He has Thirumanjanam, He is Lord Vishnu. It is well known that His Vigraha has two Hands only and the Chanku and Chakra are added on by screwing them in. His Residence in Mountain suggests His Oneness with Lord Muruga. There is a book called Sri Subrahmanya KarNaamritham which says that Thirupathi Temple is Lord Muruga’s abode. Thirupathi is Sarva Deyva Kshethram ald let us worship Him as such and He will Bless us all. If one fights on origins about which no one has clear proof, it will lead to unhappiness only all round. Our Periyava’s Ishta Deyvam and Maha Periyava’s very favourite Deyvam which Helped Him take important decisions are our Ishta Deivam, Kula Deivam etc. Bhagavan Adi Sankara Himself installed DhanaakarshaNa Yanthram there and we could see the magnitude of the amount of offerings to the Lord which is increasing day by day. I used to make some research of my own & found the simham on the vimanam this is normally in Ambal temple only,also if u happen to see his thirumanjanam u can see only two hands not four hands (notwith sangu & chakaram), only for ambal the bathing will be with turmeric paste, scented itemsetc, See the vimanam it will resenmble to MahaMeru too Lord Murugan is siva sakthi swaroopam not born fm human womb fm the 3rd eye of shiva which cant be held by any one as it was fire ball.There is only one god i.e shiva sakthi (Ardhanareswarar) the sakthi part is creator which is called as Vishnu.Dr. U.V.Sa said it only Murugan otherwise it should have 4 hands like other Vishnu temple which derived on latter days. Maha Periyava has said thath Thirupathi Venkateswara PerumaL contains the Amsams of all gods, Parameswara, AmbaL, Murugan etc. and is kaliyuga Varadhan. Maha Periyava took all major decisions after visiting Thirupathi and told BharaNidharan that He was going to stop doing daily ChandramouLeeswara Pooja in the standard format and give to Pudu Periyava, now Sri Periyava after one such visit, when He went up the Hill by foot. Maaloonum Maruganum OnRaay Inainthirukkum Thalam Thirupathi! Jaya Jaya Shankara, Hara Hara Shankara!

When Swami Brahmananda, direct disciplle of Sri Ramakrishna and considered by him as his spiritual son, visited Tirupati (in 1911 or so) , he DID have a vision of only Mother during his darsan.. He enquired what temple it was and was told that it was Vishnu temple. But on his expressing his vision, further enquiries were made and it was found that it was originally Mother’s temple. The priest there accepted this and said that it was converted ,into Vishnu temple by Sri Ramanuja.
This was revealed in a talk in 1972 by Swami Vireswarananda . 10th President of RK Math. . Subsequently, it appeared in Vedanta Kesari, February, 1984. See also: ‘Swami Brahmananda as We Saw Him’, RK Math, 2010.
There are some controversies that never die down.
Whether Tamil is more ancient than Sanskrit,Caste is foisted on the people by the Brahmins, Babri Masjid was not built-in Ram’s Birth place, Taj Mahal was not built by Shah Jahan,Aurangzeb is a pious Man and the list is endless in India.
One such controversy is that the Balaji Temple was originally Lord Murga’s Temple and it was later converted into a Vishnu Temple.
Tirupati is Murugan Temple.
Most common proof is the fact that the ancient Grammar of Tamils, right from Tholkappiyam while defining the characteristics of land masses, assigns Hilly terrains as the Abode of Lord Muruga.(Thinai Illakkanam).
Land Masses were divided into five categories by the Tamils.
Kurinji-Hilly Terrains,-Deity Lord Muruga
Mullai-Forest-Lord Vishnu.
Marutham- Agricultural Land-Indra
Neydal-Coastal Regions-Lord Varuna.
Palai-Desert-Kotravai(Durga)
I do not find any reason either from the Purnas or Tamil Literature to support the view that it was Muruga’s Temple.
The term Vengadam means the northern boundary.(of Tamils)
And there is no evidence of any King having built a Muruga Temple.
‘Puranas
The Purana Accounts are legendary and is not helpful in finding the probable date of the temple. Puranas concentrate how Vishnu came voluntarily to take his place there. Varaha temple at the foothills of Tirupati predates venkateshwara temple at the top. The only account relavant here is Tondaman (pallava) started the worship of vishnu here. This Thondaman assisted his brother(Akasa Raja) in administration. Thondaiman had a foster daughter in Tirupati and she was married to venkatesa. After the death of Akasa Raja (left a young prince), he and his nephew fought and tondiaman felt very weak ,so got the weapons from venkateswara . The war ended Indecisively and the country was divided into two. The one closer to Vengadam (Tirupati) was given to thondaman and the other farther away given to his nephew. Tondaiman built the temple and started the festivals. This Tondaman lived in Kaliyuga. There is a separate Thondaiman dynasty post 12th century AD. But Dravidian scholars want to identify Thondaiman as Pallava.’
However there is another argument that it has been a Shiva Temple because , even to-day Vilvarchana is being done to Lord Balaji.
Kanchi Periyavar states that in the Temple Prahara(outside wall, there are images of Lions, which are associated with only Goddess Durga and the temple could have been a Durga Temple.
There is another confusing statement from Romila Thapar.
“-Dig underneath every Hindu temple, there will be a Buddhist temple.”
?
My view is that there is no evidence that Tirupati is a Muruga Temple.
It is Lord Vishnu‘s Temple.
I would say this to die-hard Saivite.
Lord Muruga is the favorite nephew of Lord Vishnu.Lord Muruga will be pleased if you worship His favorite Uncle.
மாமனுக்கோ பிள்ளை இல்லை மருமகன்தான் தலைமகன்-Kannadasan.
The Uncle has no children, his nephew is his eldest son.
