  1. Thanks a lot to Sri. Arooran for giving much useful information on Kalady and the various sevas being conducted there at Sankara Jayanthi time. Hara Hara Shankara, Jaya Jaya Shankara!

  2. We had been to Kalady during the Shankara Jayanti utsavam.

The local Hindu organisations had arranged for a week long Shankara Jayanti celebration at various places of Kalady town. More than five hundred sadhus and yatrikas were fed every day at the Kirti Sthambham of Sri Kanchi mutt. The entire region was decorated with saffron flags, thoranams and images of Sri Adishankara Bhagavatpada. 1008 Kanakadhara stava parayanam and kanakabhishekam to Sri mahalakshmi was performed by the Kaippilly nambuthris at the Krishna temple, Kalady.

During our stay at Kalady, we had an opportunity to visit Velli maan thulli ( where Sri vadakkunatha gave darshan to Aryamba – Shankara’s mother in the form of a white deer when she was not able to reach Thrissur due to her old age), Maanikkamangalam Bhagavati temple ( this Devi fed milk to Sri Shankara, the Dravida sishu), The Swarnathu mana @ Ponnerkottu mana (the place where the swarna vrishti incident happened).

The Thekke madam managed the properties around Kalady up to 1920s. This mutt was one of the *five mutts* established by Sri Shankaracharya at Thrissur.

(Later the Travancore king transferred the land at Manjappara purovarti adj. to the Poorna river where the Acharya cremated His mother to the Sringeri Mutt.)

A Deepa stambha was also erected near one Asoka tree at the manjappara site to mark this place. This ancient stone pillar is now preserved inside the Sringeri mutt complex.

Thanks to Mahesh, Shivaraman and Karthi for uploading the jayanthi photos. we will send the other images soon.

Hara Hara Shankara Jaya Jaya Shankara
