Which brings me to my question about whether the Indian calendar – based on sunrise and sunset in India – can be used in other countries with several hours time difference from India. Indeed, there are many different opinions on this subject among hindu communities outside India.

The ISKCON authorities direct that observances should be according to the local calendar of the place. However, there are no similar authorised directions for our general Hindu community. Currently, each hindu community makes it’s own choice in this matter.
It would be great if we can get some directives or instructions on this matter from Sri Matam.
Yes certain thithis and other things might change between country to country. So Sri Matam calendar takes care of all Indian continent timings t- avoid each calendar for each community. For other countries, it can still serve as a good basis on how things are observed in India and anyone living outside should consult local pandits for proper conversion etc particularly when you’re doing some auspicious things….
Mahesh, please inform the audience that this calendar is for India or US use. The nakshathram and thithi for USA is different (munna pinna varum) than India. Your intention should not lead to confusion.

Correctly said. For festivals, one can simply pray to Lord Ganapathi and Maha Periyavaa and conduct nicely! Jaya Jaya Shankara, Hara Hara Shankara!
