As much as vedas were closer to Periyava’s heart, He has given service in doing the last rite for unclaimed dead bodies. There are several incidents related to this – I have read it but couldn’t remember exactly.

உடுமலைப்பேட்டையில் வசிக்கும் உமர் அலி இரும்புத் தொழில் செய்பவர். இளகிய மனம் கொண்ட மனிதர். மனிதாபிமானம் என்பது அரிதாகிவிட்ட இந்தக் காலகட்டத்தில், இவரோ தனி நபர் முயற்சியாக இதுவரை 473 ஆதரவற்ற பிணங்களை அடக்கம் செய்துள்ளார்.
சாலை ஓரங்களில் திரியும் ஆதரவற்ற, மனநிலை பாதிக்கப்பட்ட இளம் பெண்களை அரசு மருத்துவமனைக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்று சிகிச்சை அளித்த பிறகு மனநலக் காப்பகத்தில் சென்று சேர்க்கிறார். உடுமலை அன்னை தெரசா அறக்கட்டளை என்றொரு சங்கம் நிறுவி 12 பேர் கொண்ட குழுவினர் துணையுடன் கடந்த 22 வருடங்களாக இதுபோன்ற சேவைகளைச் செய்து வருகிறார்.
உமர் அலியிடம் பேசினேன். ” 1990-ம் வருஷம். திருமூர்த்தி மலைக்குப் போயிருந்தேன். அணையில் ஒரு பிணம் மிதந்துட்டு இருந்தது. ஆனால், யாருமே அதைக் கண்டுக்கலை. ஒரு நொடி என் மனசுல ‘ஆதரவு இல்லாமப் பிறக்கிறதுகூடப் பரவாயில்லை. ஆனால், யாருமே இல்லாம இறக்கக் கூடாது’னு தோணுச்சு. உடனே, போலீஸிடம் தகவல் தெரிவிச்சு, அவங்க அனுமதியோடு அந்தப் பிணத்தை நான்தான் அடக்கம் செஞ்சேன்.
ஒரு பிணத்தை அடக்கம் செய்ய இரண்டாயிரம் ரூபாய் வரைக்கும் செலவு ஆகும். அடக்கம் செய்றதுக்காக நாங்களே சொந்தமாக ரெண்டு ஆம்புலன்ஸ் வெச்சு இருக்கோம். யாராவது இறந்துபோய் அடக்கம் செய்ய வழி இல்லாம, வசதி இல்லாமக் கூப்பிட்டால் அடுத்த ஒரு மணி நேரத்தில் நாங்க அங்கே இருப்போம். எங்களோட சேவைக்காகப் பல நல்ல உள்ளங்களும் உதவி செய்றாங்க. அவங்களுக்கு எப்பவுமே நான் நன்றிக்கடன் பட்டு இருக்கேன். மனிதர்களுக்கு மட்டுமில்லை… சாலையில், விபத்தில் சிக்கி இறந்துபோகும் விலங்குகளையும் இயற்கையாக இறந்துபோகும் விலங்குகளையும் அடக்கம் பண்றேன். இவை தவிர, உடுமலையைச் சுற்றி உள்ள சுல்தான்பேட்டை, குண்டடம், மடத்துக்குளம், உடுமலை, குடிமங்கலம் உள்ளிட்ட பல ஊர்களில் இருக்கிற அரசு ஆரம்ப, நடுநிலைப் பள்ளிகளுக்கு சுமார் எட்டு லட்சம் ரூபாய் மதிப்புள்ள பொருளுதவி செஞ்சு இருக்கேன். ஒவ்வொரு வருஷமும் அன்னை தெரசா பிறந்த நாள் அன்னைக்கு இரண்டு லட்சம் ரூபாய் மதிப்பில் ஆதரவற்றவர்களுக்கு உதவி செய்றோம். உடுமலை அருகே மானுபட்டியில் ரெண்டு ஏக்கர் நிலப்பரப்புல ஆதரவற்றவர்களுக்கான ஆசிரமம் கட்டி இருக்கோம். முன்னாள் குடியரசுத் தலைவர் அப்துல் கலாம், ஐ.பி.எஸ். அதிகாரி விஜயகுமார் எல்லாம் எங்கள் சேவையை நேரில் வந்து வாழ்த்தி இருக்காங்க. புதுச்சேரி முதல்வர் ரங்கசாமி வருடம் தோறும் எங்களுக்கு நிதி உதவி அளிக்கிறார்” என்றார் நிறைவாக!

There is one Mr.Sridhar who is doing this noble work for past 27 years, after he got inspired by Deivathin Kural. He has even gone to Kasi and Gaya to offer pindam and tharpanam for those souls. And also Advocate shri.Venkata Subramanian(9841032959) has constructed and maintaining Jeevathma kainkarya trust in the name of Mahaperiyava’s poorvasrama thaayaar. He has built a temple for Mahaperiyava and running veda patashaala out of his life saving.

oh such people has a lot of blessings from periava. how i wish he is in chennai!!!i know we have some here but either it is not enough or they have not much time to concentrate on this too much single handedly. even rich people have a lot of difficulties these days when some relations die in their own family!!!!n.ramaswami
I wish to repeat my earlier writing on the above subject. My close friend Shri S L Chandrashekar’s grand father Shri Melattur varadaiyar was entrusted with the responsibility of managing “Jeewatma Kainkarya Sangam”. Mahaperiyava regretted that people belonging to other religions would do proper final rites to the uncared death bodies but in Hinduism, we don’t do like that. Hence, the above sangam was started. Wherever uncared ‘anatha-pretam’ were found they were given the proper final rites according to the custom, to which the death person belonged. Shri Mahaperiyava told that by doing so one will get the punas equivalent to performing ‘Ashwamedha yagam’. as mentioned in Shri Lalitha Trisati “Hayameva Samarchita”.
I feel happy that I hail from that small town.
