கும்பகோணம் அருகே ஒரு சிற்றூரை சேர்ந்தவர் அந்த மூதாட்டி. அவருக்கு சொத்துக்கள் ஏராளம். வயதான காலத்தில் தன்னை பராமிப்போர் யாரும் இல்லாத நிலையில், காஞ்சி மடத்தின் நற்பணிக்காக தன் சொத்துக்களை அர்பணித்து, காஞ்சியிலேயே தங்கி, எளிய முறையில் வாழ்ந்து மடத்துக்கும் சேவை செய்து வந்தார். அப்பெண்மணியின் தன்னலமற்ற உயர்ந்த சேவையை பாராட்டும் வகையில், மஹா பெரியவர் ஒரு நாள் அவரை அழைத்து “எதாவது விருப்பம் உண்டா? தயங்காமல் கேட்கலாம்” என்றார்.
உண்ணும் சுவையான உணவை தான் உண்ணுவது இல்லை என்றாலும் அந்த மூதாட்டியின் அன்பான ஆசையை மறுக்காமல் ஒப்புக்கொண்டு ஒரு நாள் காலையில் அவர் தயாரித்த உணவை சிறிதளவு உண்டார். அப்பெண்மணி அளவிலா ஆனந்தம் அடைந்தார்.
அன்று மாலை, மடத்தின் தலைமை அதிகாரி மடத்து அலுவல் சம்பந்தமாக, பெரியவரை சந்திக்க சென்றார். அங்கே சுவாமிகள் எதையோ சாப்பிட்டுக்கொண்டு இருந்ததை பார்த்து அதிசயித்து அருகில் இருந்தவிர்களிடம், “பெரியவா என்ன உண்கிறார்?” என்று கேட்டார். “அவர் பசுஞ்சாணத்தை கொண்டு வரச்சொல்லி உண்கிறார்” என்று பதில் வந்தது.
காரணத்தை பெரியவரிடம் கேட்ட போது “காலையில் அந்த பெண்மணி கொடுத்த சத்து மாவு சிறிது உண்டேன். அந்த ருசியால் மகிழ்ந்த அந்த நாக்கு மீண்டும், மீண்டும், அந்த ருசியான பண்டத்துக்கு ஏங்கும். அதை சமன் செய்ய ருசியே இல்லாத யாருமே உண்ணாத பசுஞ்சாணத்தை உண்கிறேன். ஏன் நாவுக்கு குறிப்பிட்ட ருசியும் உயர்ந்ததில்லை என்று புரியும்.” என்றார்.
இந்த மாதிரி பற்றற்ற மகான்களோடு பழகினாலேயே எல்லோருக்கும் பற்றற்ற நிலை எளிதில் கிடைத்து விடும்.
