A Miracle of Faith: My Journey with Mahaperiyava and Shivan SAR

Thanks to Smt Ramya Murali for this share.

Life can sometimes throw unexpected challenges our way, and this was exactly what happened to me. As a healthy woman, I never expected to face such a terrifying health scare. It started suddenly – severe pain and excessive bleeding during my periods. When I consulted my doctor, he advised an ultrasound. However, the report was concerning, and the doctor recommended an MRI. That’s when the fear truly set in.

The MRI was shared with doctors in India, and the news was heartbreaking – they strongly suspected cancer. The urgency was clear. Within just two hours, my ticket to India was booked. I had to leave my family behind, including my daughter, who was about to take her Grade 12 board exams, and my son, who was preparing for his final exams in Grade 8. With a heavy heart, I traveled alone, burdened by the thought of what awaited me.

Arriving in Chennai, my sister and her husband took me to meet one of the most respected oncologists, an 80-year-old senior doctor in the field, thanks to a close friend’s help. When he saw the MRI images, his words cut deep: “This is cancer.” It was difficult to hear, and I was shattered. He recommended a biopsy for confirmation and a PET scan to check the spread. Those days were some of the darkest in my life. The diagnosis felt like a heavy weight, and the future seemed so uncertain.

Despite the pain and uncertainty, my sister and mother held onto their unwavering faith in Mahaperiyava and Shivan SAR. They prayed earnestly and told me, “Mahaperiyava and Shivan SAR will take care of everything. They won’t trouble us; He will help us get through this.” They fully believed that He would not let us suffer and that everything would be fine under His protection. Their faith gave me strength, and I found solace in reciting the “Asmin paramathman” shloka from the Narayaneeyam.

The days of waiting were agonizing, but my family’s belief in Mahaperiyava and Shivan SAR’s blessings kept us going. My sister and mother continued their prayers, believing with all their hearts that He would help us.

Finally, the day of the reports arrived. My hands trembled as I opened my phone to see the results. My heart was racing. But when I saw the report, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was not cancer. It was a chronic infection that could be treated. The name of the doctor who wrote the report was Dr. Chandramouleeswari – a name so divine and meaningful that we knew who was behind this miracle. The blessings of Mahaperiyava and Shivan SAR were with us all along.

My sister had even seen a vision of Shivan SAR with three holes in his stomach, and it became clear that He had taken the suffering upon Himself. We were overwhelmed with gratitude and relief. When we visited the doctor, he confirmed the infection and suggested removing my uterus to prevent further issues. Though the journey is not over, I now move forward with confidence, knowing that Mahaperiyava and Shivan SAR are watching over me.

This experience has strengthened my faith beyond words. Mahaperiyava and Shivan SAR performed a miracle in my life, and I know they will continue to guide and protect us. Their grace is immeasurable, and I am forever thankful.

  1. That is the greatness of these Acharyas. My humble and devoted prostrations at the holy feet of these Acharyas.

  2. “Sriaiyerrs garu, thanks for responding on behalf of Sri Saambasivam garu….. Exactly, I just responded to him as ‘loud thoughts’ of mine. Did you find any wrong in that?”

Balaji Canchi Sistla-ji, Namaste. You are absolutely correct in ventilating your thoughts. Nothing wrong at all. After all we are all here to learn from others’ writings. On many occasions, writings of others, triggers consequent thoughts in others. For e.g., when I read about the mercy received by #Ramya-ji, it triggered in me as to what I should do, should I be the recipient of such kindness. And they flowed through my keyboard by way of my response to the query posed by Sri #Sambasivam.

    1. Hari Om, Maha Periva Sharanam

I am not finding any wrong in your way of responding to his and my expressions. I was just sharing about what I felt on his comments. I admire and bow my head to your patientful response! Please keep posting and englighten the people like me. Hari Om.

  3. Sri Sri Sri Maha Periyava and Sri Sri Sri Sivan Sir Thiruvadikal Saranam. Jaya Jaya Sankara, Hara Hara Sankara.

  5. What have you given back to Mahaperiyava and Sivan Sir??? Are you living a dharmic path?

    1. Perhaps, you may not get a reply for this question from her. Therefore, I presume, she has done one of the following:
      1. Sponsored the study of a Brahmin boy in a Vedapaatasaala and deposited a good amount in his name so that when it matures, the boy would be ready to start his Grihastaashrama without any problem. OR
      2. Decided to give away her beloved daughter in marriage to an appropriately young Brahmachaari to start his Grihastaashrama. OR
      3. Has taken upon herself the entire expenses pertaining to the wedding of a poor Brahmin girl. OR
      4. She has donated 3-4 fertile cows [with calf] to someone needy — which can help him earn his livelihood — WITH THE PROMISE that he would care for it till its natural end. [I don’t give cows to a Brahmin because: (a) They don’t have space for it in their house, (b) They also sell it when its maintenance is no more profitable. I give it to only a hereditary milkman. I ALSO PAY TOWARDS ITS MAINTENANCE EVERY MONTH. OR
      5. Decides to forget all about it after profusely thanking Sri Mahaaperiyavaa and Sri Sivan Sir in her heart, pay a visit to their Samaadhi(s) and decides to move forward in her life. Of course she would continue to remember Sri Mahaaperiyavaa and Sri Sivan Sir in her prayers for the remainder of her life.

    2. Maha Periva Sharanam!

With due respect sir, what kind of question is this? Are they (Mahaperiyava and Sivan SAR) in an expection of any from their Bhaktas? Is it some kind business transaction? She prayed heartfully and they blessed, period! Why to expect to paying something as return? If she was not worth to be blessed, she would have received a different report. Who you and me to determine or ask to someone to walk on a Dharmic path? I am sorry for my rant. Forgive me if it hurts you in anyway!

      1. Those were just loud thoughts. One can read, and ingest it. Or just move on without any reaction. In this I am with Sri Saambasivam. I guess, we are a different kind of people. We give expression to our thoughts. Thoughts, we cannot control. Or else, we would all be rishis.
In a public forum one should be ready for all sorts of reaction — some pleasing, and a few not so. Expressing one’s thoughts, is a kind of itch. You have to scratch, or else, it won’t let you be.
To overcome it, in forums like Twitter [now X], I normally write out my response and delete it. But that cannot be practised at all times. You may wonder as to why I am reacting to something that was not addressed to me. Well. Since I have reacted to Sri Saambasivam’s question, I thought I must clear my stand on your response to him too. [My Twitter Handle is: @RS2Sri]
