இன்னிக்கு காரடையான் நோன்பு. சாவித்திரி தேவி கதை பலருக்கும் தெரிந்திருக்கும், இதற்கு காமாஷி தேவியின் சம்பந்தம் என்ன என்று எல்லோருக்கும் தெரியுமா என்று தெரியவில்லை. சாவித்திரி காட்டில் கிடைத்த பூக்களையும், பழங்களையும் வைத்து காமாக்ஷி தேவியை பூஜித்தாள். அம்மைக்கு அமுது படைக்க விரும்பினாள். காடுகளில் ஏதும் கிடைக்காததால் அங்கே கிடைத்த களிமண்ணை அடையாகவும், கள்ளிப் பாலை வெண்ணெயாகவும் பாவித்து பூஜை செய்தாள். அப்பறம் யமனிடமே போராடி ஜெயித்தாள். அப்படி சாவித்திரி செய்த பூஜையே இன்று நாம் அனைவரும் செய்யும் காரடையான் நோன்பு ஆகும். அதனால் தான் வெல்ல அடையையும் வெண்ணையையும் நைவேத்யமாக பண்ணி பூஜை பண்ணுகிறோம்.

When the Maasi month ends and the Panguni month starts, Tamizh women celebrate a festival called karadayan nonbu. Many of you will know the story of Savithri Devi but some of you may not know the connection between Karadayan Nonbu and Kamakshi Devi.

Savithri worshipped Kamakshi Devi in the forest with the flowers and fruits available. She wanted to cook and serve some sweet to the Goddess. But since ingredients were not available, she made vella adai (a sweet dish) with mud clay and served with milk from cactus plant which looks like butter. Later she fought with Yama Dharmaraja and got back her husband’s life. The nonbu we celebrate is the same puja that savithri did in the forest. That’s why we celebrate karadayan nonbu with sweet adai and butter as neivedyam.
