“Was He fencing with an invisible Foe???”

The Paramacharya has touched the lives of those who revere Him in myriad ways. There was an instance in my case. That was soon after my marriage and I had gone to Kanchi in 1964 with my wife, her grand mother, my grand mother and her aunt.

It was 11.30 in the morning and we were told that Paramacharya was in Kollachatram. We went there and as He was doing the Japam (one hour) we waited in the courtyard. After the Japam the Acharya came out, His face flushed. Never had I seen Him like that!

He went straight into the open courtyard and what followed was something rarely witnessed. He moved, waving His “Dhandam” in the air. Was it a dance or was He fencing with an invisible foe?

The few of us watched in stunned silence! This went on for nearly five minutes at the end of which He slowly regained His composure and went inside.

After a few minutes, we were called in. And I saw the Acharya in His usual calm and composed state!

This reminds me of an incident in kumbakonam many years back.while doing pooja suddenly he stopped the pooja and took water from the Kamandalu and threw it on something in front of him and after sometime resumed the pooja. In the gate was a man begging forgiveness for what he tried to do to His Holiness and took leave from the Swamiji through His anukka thondar (.narrated by a Mutt sippandhi)

  8. I am wondering if paramacharya is driving out any evil force or rescuing any devotee by waving his dandam ? Just curious ….

I heard about another event ,when Sri Kanchi ParamaCharya once did a Pranam in a old temple. When asked by his Shishya why he did Pranam, ParamaCharya replied that Sri Swamy Hanuma came and have given darshan to him.

  9. Did any body know what is the invisible Foe ? It is extremely rare to see acharya of highest ranks to show there frustration. Is Sri Kanchi ParamaCharya driving out a evil force ?
