We are aware that several of our readers have already contributed for the 2013 Veda Rakshanam drive. We will speak to Shri Anantaraman, Manager of Shankara Matam, Villupuram to see if we can set aside a chunk from our 2013 collections. However, we exhort the new members of the blog and those who have not previously contributed to kindly donate for this.
Thanks a million, as always!

His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Swamigal, the Sixty Eighth Peetathipathi of the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt Was born on 20th May, 1894 in Villupuram, Tamilnadu. His devotees revere him as the incarnation of the divine. People from all Walks of life belonging to various religions, consider him as the Jagadguru, One Who can guide them forward in their spiritual quest of self-realisation.
The main theme in all his speeches Was that “Sanathana Dharma”, the religion propounded by the Vedas, was the only path to salvation of mankind. Hence, it becomes imperative that We preserve the Vedas and hand them down to posterity. In View of this, the Paramacharya concentrated on Veda Sarnrakshana as His rnain focus and founded the Veda Rakshana Nidhi for revival and propagation of Vedic Studies. He also encouraged projects aimed at preserving and nurturing our rich and ancient culture and tradition.
The JAGADGURU SRI CHANDRA SEKARENDRA SARASWATHI
SWAMIGAL AVATARSTHALA SAMRAKSHNA AND CENTENARY
COMMEMORATION TRUST was one such entity started in the year 1997 With the blessings of Maha swamigal. The main objective of the trust was to immortalize the “Avathara Sthalam”, the house in Villupuram where he was born. The Villupuram branch of the Kanehi Sankara Mutt and a “Veda Patashala” ñlnction from this premises at N0.26/41, Sankara Mutt Street, Villupuram.
The present Seers of the’Kanchi Mutt are desirous of continuing the functions of the trust with their focus on main objective to economically strengthen the Veda Patashala and Veda Patashala at the Avathara Sthalam
This Veda Patashala was founded in the year 1961. Initially, there Was an overwhelming response and all three Vedas Rig, Yajur and Sama Vedas were taught here.
With the passage of time, due to several factors, one of them being the economic uncertainty of their future, there has been a decline in the number of students. At present, there are ten students who are provided free boarding, lodging and healthcare. After successful completion of the stipulated eight years course, they can Work either with the Mutt or as freelance as per their Wish. There is also a proposal to teach them basics in English & Maths to empower them for their future. Sincere efforts are on to increase the total strength of the vidyarthis.
The vidyarthis have to follow a very strict daily schedule which starts at 4.30 AM with round the clock prayer and studies, diet restricted to “satvic food” and very little freedom or entertainment when compared with their peers in the regular academic stream.
In addition, many of them hail from families that are economically disadvantaged.
Given these considerations, it becomes all the more important for the management and civil society to provide these students With periodical monetary incentives and a conducive atmosphere which will enable them to withstand this tough regimen and will sustain their interest towards successful completion ofthe course.
Finally, it is an indisputable fact that We as Hindus, wherever We may live, cherish our traditions as very precious and so will be dependent on these vidyarthis, who will be the future purohits, to perform every important function/ ceremony in our lives.
Hence We request you to contribute to this Trust which aims at setting up of a Corpus Fund of Rs.50 Lakhs to make’ the Veda Patashala self sufficient. Those who Wish to perform “Annadhana” on any particular day of the year can contribute Rs.10,000/, the interest from which will be just sufficient to meet the food expenses (average) of vidyarthis per day. They may specify the Date and Name on Whose behalÍ` special Archana / Prayers will be offered on that date every year. This donation will be a part ofthe Corpus Fund.
We welcome all donations, however small because it is tiny drops that together make the mighty ocean.
Your participation in this project will be an invaluable legacy to our progeny.
Donations may be made either by means of Cheque / DD / RTGS.
