Great to hear Balu Maama’s interview Part 3. The encyclopaedic memory and the enthusiasm with which Maama talks are simply great. We get maximum information and anecdotes about Maha Periyava through him. I hope that more episodes will come. Now that He has taken Sanyasa ashramam, I do not know if more interviews are currently possible. Jaya Jaya Shankara, Hara Hara Shankara!

Sri Balu mama (now a Sanyasi) is akin to akshaya patra as far as anecdotes are concerned. He has contributed so much that resulted in more than seven books shared with Sri T S Kothandarama sarma where his share was substantial. Still he is able to recount so many events. His mentioning about Periava’s clarification about the when actual sale is over in legal parlance is well known incident which now every distressed owner is using it against sale of property, He was practical, humane and just in dealing any issue. The final incident of Padha Dheekshai where He involves Balu also about his view of giving such kind of blessing and after securing his concurrence He gives such blessings, mainly as Sanyasi should seek the opinion of a Brahmin as per Gita is a classic and moving one
i know about the dog fighting the tiger and saving the whole crowd!!! H H Knows everything and gives all the wishes of bhaktas as long as you are true to the faith!! Incidentally none seems to have told about the story periava used to explain about kumbakonam. According to periava’s humour, a person from kumbakonam was displeased with one of those englishmen bosses. this englishman visited kumbakonam and the disappointed person thought it to be the best occasion to honour that boss suitably. the best way to honour such persons is to present a leomon (again a lemon story) and the person nicely shaved off the skin of a a karunaikizangu and made it to the shape of lemon and when the englishman visited that place presented it to him and lo one should see the plight of that englishman!!! that is the intelligence of kumbakonians!!!laugh…….n.ramaswami
