முன்னெல்லாம் ஆஸ்பத்திரியிலோ, ஜெயிலிலோ அல்லது நடுத்தெரு ஒன்றிலோ ஒரு ஹிந்து அநாதை செத்துப் போனான் என்றால், எடுத்து ஸம்ஸ்காரம் செய்ய எந்த ஏற்பாடும் இல்லாமல் இருந்தது. இப்போது கூட அநேக ஊர்களில் இப்படித்தான் இருக்கிறது. ஆஸ்பத்திரிக்காரர்களே போஸ்ட் மார்டம் பண்ணி, ஆராய்ச்சிக்காகப் பண்ண வேண்டியதைப் பண்ணிப் புதைத்துவிடுவது, முனிஸிபாலிடி அல்லது பஞ்சாயத்துக்காரர்கள் கொண்டு போய்ப் புதைத்து விடுவது என்றுதான் நடந்துவருகிறது. சாஸ்த்ர ப்ரகாரமான ஸம்ஸ்காரமில்லாமல் இப்படி ஒரு சரீரத்தை விடுவது நம் ஸமூஹத்துக்கே களங்கம், பாபம்.இதர மதஸ்தர்கள் இந்த விஷயத்தில் தக்க ஏற்பாடுகள் பண்ணியிருக்கிறார்கள். அவர்களுடைய சாஸ்த்ரப்படி பகவானிடம் ஒரு சரீரத்தை ஒப்பிக்காமல் விடுகிற தோஷம் அந்த ஸமூஹங்களுக்கு வருவதேயில்லை. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
In olden days, if a Hindu orphan used to die in a hospital, jail or platform, there used to be no arrangements to perform his final rites properly. This situation continues in most of the places even today. Either the hospital authorities bury the body after post mortem and research or the local bodies (Municipality or Panchayath) do the burial. Abandoning a dead body like this without proper rituals as prescribed by our Sastras, is a great blot on our society, a sin. People belonging to other religions have done suitable arrangements to deal with such contingencies.
