Dear Readers,
Mahashivarathiri for this year falls on March 7th – the most auspicious day for all of us. Let us do all our anushtanams, spend the whole day/night only with Shiva dhyanam and pray Him for His blessings. We have heard so many stories of explaining the power of panchakshara japam – even in this blog. Let us put that into practice at least on one day.
I am glad to share that Periyava Radio will do a Shivarathiri Special program starting from 6 PM on March 7th till 6 AM on March 8th that will cover special talks by Periyava on Sivarathiri, bajans, stotras, stuthis etc – point is that you tune to the radio, there will be something on Lord Shiva going on during this time.
I have enclosed some videos of my choice
- First one from Kashi Vishwanatha Maharaj’s “saptha rishi Puja” – one who has seen this alone can appreciate this uniqueness – out of the world experience. My most favorite.
- Second from Ujjain Mahakaleshwarar – 5 videos – there is no reason why one can’t spend time to watch all these 5 videos – it is an amazing experience – I absolutely want to go there once, if He blesses me
- Third from a Pradosha puja abishekam to both Mahaperiyava and Parameshwaran/Nandikeshwarar.

முதல் கால பூஜை (6.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m)
- அபிஷேகம்
- பஞ்சகவ்யம், பசும்பால், தேன், பசு நெய், பசும் சாணம், கோஜலம் (பசுவின் சிறு நீர்), கையால் அரைத்த சந்தன காப்பு
- அர்ச்சனை – வில்வம்
- நைவேத்தியம் – பச்சைப் பயிறு பொங்கல்
- ஓத வேண்டியது – ரிக் வேதம் அல்லது ஓம் நமசிவாய எனும் பஞ்சாட்சரம் ஜபிக்கவும்.
இரண்டாம் கால பூஜை (9.00p.m. to 12.00 a.m)
- அபிஷேகம்
- ரச பஞ்சாமிர்தம், பசும் பால், தேன், சர்க்கரை, பசு நெய், தயிர்
- அகிர்க் குழம்பு பூச்சு சார்த்தவும்.
- அர்ச்சனை – தாமரைப்பூ
- நைவேத்தியம் – பால் பாயாசம்
- பாராயணம் – யஜுர் வேதம் அல்லது சிவாய நம என்று ஜபிக்கவும்.
லிங்கோத்பவ நேரம் (10.54 PM to 12.24 AM)
இந்நேரத்தில் சிவயசிவ என்று ஓதவும்.
மூன்றாம் கால பூஜை (12.00 P.M. to 3.00 A.M)
- அபிஷேகம் – கொம்புத் தேன் (கேரளாவில் கிடைக்கும்)
- மேல் பூச்சு – அரைத்த பச்சைக் கற்பூரம்
- அர்ச்சனை – வில்வம்
- நைவேத்தியம் – எள் சாதம்
- பாட வேண்டியது – சாம வேதம் அல்லது சிவயசிவ என்று ஜபிக்கவும்.
நான்காம் கால பூஜை (3.00AM to 6.00 AM)
- அபிஷேகம் – கரும்புச்சாறு
- மேல் பூச்சு – அரைத்த குங்குமப் பூ
- அர்ச்சனை – வில்வம், நீலோத்பலம்
- நைவேத்தியம் – சுத்த அன்னம் பச்சரிசி சாதம் வடித்து அதில்
குறைந்தது இரண்டு கரண்டி பசு நெய் விட வேண்டும். - பாட வேண்டியது – அதர்வண வேதம் அல்லது சிவசிவ என்று ஜபிக்கவும்.

சிவசிவ என்றிட தீவினை மாளும்
சிவசிவ என்றிட தேவரும் ஆவர்
