காயத்ரீ என்றால், “எவர்கள் தன்னை கானம் பண்ணுகிறார்களோ அவர்களை ரக்ஷிப்பது” என்பது அர்த்தம். கானம் பண்ணவதென்றால் இங்கே பாடுவதில்லை; பிரேமையுடனும் பக்தியிடனும் உச்சரிப்பது என்று அர்த்தம். யார் தன்னை பயபக்தியுடனும் பிரேமையுடனும் ஜபம் பண்ணுகிறார்களோ அவர்களை காயத்ரீ மந்திரம் ரக்ஷிக்கும். அதனால் அந்தப் பெயர் அதற்கு வந்தது. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
“Whoever sings is protected,” that is “Gayathri”. “Sings” is not used here in the sense of singing a song. It means intoning or chanting (the mantra) with affection and devotion. People who chant the Gayathri in this manner are protected. – Sri Kanchi Maha Periyava
