Brahmasri Yangeswara Dikshitar of Chicago – very fondly called by all of us here in US as “dikshitar mama” – reached the abode of Kailasanathar yesterday evening in Dallas, TX. It was very shocking to hear this news last night. Thanks to my friends and mama’s students in Dallas who were with mama during his last moments.
Mama is close to all of us in Chicagoland – known for his unparalleled knowledge in veda, sastra, sampradhaya yet very humble and was part of everyone’s family. He touched everyone’s heart – not just in Chicagoland; pretty much throughout USA.
Last event he conducted in Chicagoland before he left for Dallas was Mahaperiyava Aradhana at my place and Anusham on the very next day at Sriram’s place. During that event, we officially announced that we would celebrate his sadhabishekam in June. However Iswara apparently has a different plan for mama. It is a huge loss for the Vedic community in US.
Mama has utmost respect and devotion for Mahaperiyava. During his younger days, he has attended several Vedic events under the direction of Mahaperiyava. Almost all the time when I requested mama to conduct anusham or any Periyava event, his immediate response has been “kandippa…baghyam”. I can write all-day about mama and how much he will be missed by all of us.
Mama – we all are shocked ; couldn’t come out the shock and will miss you forever!

Sri Yagneswara Dikshitar, an accomplished vedic pundit, associated with “Gayatri
Yagna USA” organization, with over 55 years of experience in performing and presiding over many major temple functions in India and in other countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
He was born in Kalady (the birth place of Adi Shankaracharya) in Kerala state, India. His father is Sri Seetharama Dikshitar. He learnt the entire Yajur Veda (“Poorna adhyAyi”) and significant portions of the other three Vedas i.e., Rig, Sama and Atharva, in a traditional way. He also learnt the vedic rituals (purohitam) procedures from the expert practitioners.
In 1968 he moved to Delhi and settled there. He was nominated the “Mudradhikari” of Sringeri mutt. During that time, he has performed more than a few scores of Kumbabhishekams , Maharudras, Chandiyagnas and/or consecration of deities in both South Indian and North Indian style temples, in Delhi and surrounding places like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Jyoti Mutt, etc. Apart from that, he has performed countless other ritual (vedic) functions such as Upanayanams, Pumsavanams, etc. He is also very well versed in Astrology, Yoga Asanas and Pranayama. He has been conducting classes for men, women & children in the above areas and various parts of Vedam in person and on the phone.
He has been visiting the United States since 1997 and living here since 2005. His vedic knowledge and immense experience has made him a sought-after priest. He has participated / led as primary priest , Kumbhabishems in Chicago area, Texas, Iowa, Tennessee, Los Angeles and Michigan, to name a few.
