வெளியிலே நமக்குத் தெரிகிற பயன் ஒன்று என்பதால் வஸ்து ஒன்றாகி விடுமா? கல்கண்டும் படிக்காரமும் பார்வைக்கு ஒரே மாதிரியிருந்தாலும் ஒன்றாய் விடுமா? ருசி, பௌதிகமான குணங்கள் இவற்றைக் கொண்டு இவை இரண்டும் வேறே வேறே என்று தெரிந்து கொள்கிறோம். இந்த பௌதிக விஷயங்கள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் ஒரே மாதிரியாக இருக்கிறவைகளும் கூட பௌதிகாதீதமான ரீதியில் வேறே வேறேதான் என்றும் சாஸ்திரக்காரர்கள் கண்டுபிடித்து இது மாதிரி வஸ்துவில் கூட இதைத்தான் சேர்க்கலாம் இது கூடாது என்கிறார்கள். ஒரே மாதிரி காய்கறிதான் என்றாலும் சிராத்தத்தில் பீன்ஸ் சேர்க்காதே அவரைக்காய் சேர் என்கிறார்கள். மிளகாயும் உறைப்பு, மிளகும் உறைப்பு என்றாலும் மிளகாய் சேர்க்காதே, மிளகு சேர் என்கிறார்கள். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்
Two objects cannot be considered same, just because there is no difference in the obvious results of the two. For example, even if they appear to be the same, can alum and sugar candy considered to be the same product? Taking into consideration, their tastes and chemical characteristics, we identify them as two distinct products. Our ancestors have made a distinction among products which may have the same chemical features, based on their characteristics beyond chemical structure. They have stipulated which products can be used and which cannot. Even if they appear to be the same, beans cannot be cooked during ancestral ceremonies but avaraikai (broad beans) can be used.
