ஆத்மாபிவிருத்தியில் ஓரளவுக்கு மேலே போகப்போக மனஸின் ஒருமுக தியானத்துக்கு வாக்கு, கார்யம் ஆகியவையே இடைஞ்சலாகத்தான் ஆகும். கார்யம் ஸ்தோத்ரம், மந்திரம் எல்லாமே அப்போது நின்று போய்விடும். ஆனால் இது தானாகவே விடப்போகிற ஸமாச்சாரம். தவளையை உதராணமாகச் சொல்வது வழக்கம். தவளை ஜலத்தில்தான் முட்டை போடும். அப்புறம் முட்டையிலிருந்து வெளியே வந்தவிட்டும் சிலகாலம் மீன் மாதிரி ஜலத்தில் மட்டும்தான் இருக்கும். அந்த ஸ்டேஜில் அதற்கு நிலத்திலே ச்வாஸிப்பதற்கு வேண்டிய லங்ஸ் கிடையாது. மீன் மாதிரி ஜலத்தில் கரைந்திருக்கிற ஆக்ஸிஜனை தனக்குள்ளே இழுத்துக் கொள்ளும் gills என்ற உறுப்பு மட்டுந்தான் அப்போது தவளைக்கு உண்டு. அப்புறந்தான் அது வளர வளர இந்த உறுப்பு எப்படி மறைந்தது என்றே தெரியாமல் தானாக மறைந்து, அதற்கு நிலத்திலே இருந்து கொண்டு, காற்றிலேயுள்ள ஆக்ஸிஜனை ஸ்வாஸிக்கக்கூடிய லங்ஸ் உண்டாகிறது. இப்படி ஹையர் ஸ்டேஜுக்குப் போகும்போது தானாகச் சடங்கு, மந்த்ரம் எல்லாம் நின்று போகும். அதற்காக ஆரம்பத்திலேயே இதெல்லாம் வேண்டாம், மனஸ் சுத்தம் போதுமென்றால், அது தவளை முதலில் ஜலத்திலிருக்கும்போதே லங்ஸ்தான் வேண்டும் என்று தனக்கு இருக்கிற ஸ்வாஸ அவயவத்தையும் விட்டு விட்டு விட்டால் என்ன ஆகும்? உயிரையும் விட வேண்டியதுதான்! வெளிச் சின்னங்கள், வெளிக் கார்யங்கள், வெளி வித்யாஸங்கள், இவற்றின் மூலந்தான் உள்ளே ஒரு அடையாளமும், காரியமும், பேதமும் இல்லாமல் ஆகிற நிலைமையை அடைய முடியும். முதலிலேயே கார்யத்தைக் கொடுக்காமல் மனஸை மட்டும் வைத்துக் கொண்டு தியானம் பண்ணு என்றால் மனஸ் ரொம்ப நேரம் கண்டபடி ஓடிவிட்டு, அப்புறம் எழுந்துவிடத்தான் வைக்கும். அல்லது களைத்துத் தூக்கத்தில் கொண்டுவிடும். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
As one progresses in the spiritual path, at a particular stage, the chant and the rituals themselves will become a hindrance to a focused meditation. The reason is the chant and ritual will cease at that point. But this will happen automatically. A frog is often quoted as an example. When it is hatched out of an egg in the water, it will continue to live in the water only, like a fish, for some time. It will not have the capacity to live on the land. It will have only gills to absorb the oxygen present in the water. It will not have lungs to breathe on the land. As time passes, however, the lungs develop unobtrusively, the gills disappear seamlessly and it develops the capability to live on the land. Similarly when one reaches a higher stage of spiritual progress, the chanting and rituals will come to a stop. But if one is adamant that purity of mind is sufficient at even an early stage of spiritual development, what will happen? If the frog insists upon the lungs even when it is in water and gives up its existing gills, it has to die. It is only through external signs, tasks, and external distinctions that one can achieve an internal state where there is no distinction and external signs or rituals. If only meditation is prescribed at the initial stages without any practices, the mind will run around aimlessly and this will end in getting up or going to sleep. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal
