“ஸமயாசார வேலியை நீ உடைக்கலாம்” என்று சீர்திருத்தத் தலைவர் முதலில் சொல்லிக் கொடுத்தால் அப்படி உடைத்து ஸ்வதந்த்ரத்தில் ருசி கண்ட ஜனங்கள் “நீ போட்டிருக்கும் ‘மாரல்’ வேலியையும் உடைப்பேன்” என்று பிற்பாடு அவரிடமே திருப்பிக் கொள்கிறார்கள்! பார்க்கவில்லையா — சடங்கும் ஆலய பூஜையும் ஸம்ஸ்கிருதத்தில் மட்டும் ஏன் பண்ண வேண்டும் என்று கேட்பதற்கு தேசத் தலைவர்கள் முதலில் ஜனங்களுக்குச் சொல்லிக் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அப்புறம் ஜனங்கள் அவர்களிடமே திருப்பிக் கொண்டு ஹிந்தி மாத்திரம் ஏன் நேஷனல் லாங்க்வேஜாக இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று கேட்டுப் பெரிய கலஹமாகவே ரயிலைக் கவிழ்த்தும் பஸ்ஸைக் கொளுத்தியும் எதிர்க்க ஆரம்பித்து விட்டார்கள். ஸத்யாக்ரஹம், ‘ஸிவில்-டிஸ்-ஓபீடியன்ஸ்’, மறியல் என்று எதையெல்லாம் அந்நிய ராஜாங்கத்தை எதிர்த்து ரொம்ப முக்யமான விஷயங்களுக்காக ஆதியில் சொல்லிக் கொடுத்தார்களோ, அவற்றையே இப்போது உப்புப் போதாத விஷயங்களுக்காக இவர்களை எதிர்த்தே ஜனங்கள் செய்கிறார்கள். ஸாதாரண ஜனங்களைக் கிளப்பி விடும்போது எத்தனை முன்யோசனை வேண்டும் என்று நினைக்காததன் பலனை அநுபவிக்கிறோம். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
When the reformist leader teaches his followers to break the code of conduct laid down by the religion, once having tasted independence, these followers also start breaking the ethical code of conduct laid down by the leaders. Have we not seen this happening? Our national leaders taught the people to question the practice of conducting the temple worship in Sanskrit. After some time, the public took their turn in questioning the adoption of Hindi as a national language and started indulging in riots, burning the buses and trains. Sathyagraham, Civil disobedience movement and blockades which were formulated as very important teachings against the foreign rule is being misused by the populace against the same leaders who taught them this technique for utterly trivial reasons.
