திவஸம், தர்ப்பணம் முதலான பித்ரு காரியங்களும் பரோபகாரத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவைதான். சிராத்தம் முதலானவை பித்ருக்கள் எங்கே, எப்படிப்பட்ட ஜன்மா எடுத்திருந்தாலும் அங்கே அவர்களுக்கு த்ருப்தி உண்டாக்கும். ஒருத்தர் செத்துப் போனவுடனேயே பித்ரு லோகம்போய் விடுவதில்லை; இன்னொரு ஜன்மா எடுத்து விடுவதில்லை; இறந்து போனவனின் ஜீவன் ஒரு வருஷம் பிரயாணம் பண்ணித்தான் பித்ரு ஸ்தானத்தை அடைகிறது. இதை நம் சாஸ்த்ரங்களில் சொல்லியிருக்கிற மாதிரியே க்ரீக் மைதாலஜி முதலான மதாந்தரங்களிலும் சொல்லியிருக்கிறது. ஒரு ஜீவன் பரலோகம் செல்வதற்குப் பிடிக்கிற இந்த ஒரு வருஷத்தில்தான் அதன் த்ருப்திக்காக மாஸா மாஸம் சில சடங்குகளைச் செய்வது. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
Ancestral rituals like Divasam and Tharpanam are also philanthropic acts. Even if our ancestors have taken rebirth somewhere, Divasam (Pithru Rituals) will satisfy them. A person who dies does not immediately reach “Pithruloka” or the world for the ancestors. He does not take birth immediately. The soul of a dead person travels for a year before reaching the ancestral world. This fact is not only mentioned in our ancient scriptures but also in the works of other religions like Greek mythology.
