காஞ்சி பெரிவர் (1971) ல் பல விஷயங்களைப் பற்றிப் பேசினார். “கிழக்கு வங்காள ரேடியோவில் தினமும் பகவத்கீதை வைக்கிறாளாமே…உனக்குத் தெரியுமோ?”
நான் சொன்னேன், “இந்துக்களுக்குப் பாதுகாப்புக் குறைவாக இருக்கிறது. மற்ற மதங்கள்,முக்கியமாக இஸ்லாமும்,கிறிஸ்துவமும் உலகம் பூரா பரவியிருக்கிறது. அவர்களுக்கு ஒரு நாட்டில் கஷ்டம் என்றால் மற்ற நாட்டிலுள்ளவர்கள் உதவ முன்வருகிறார்கள். இந்துக்கள் மாத்திரம் பயந்துகொண்டே தான் வாழ வேண்டியிருக்கிறது”.
“அப்படியா? இஸ்ரேல் என்று ஒரு நாடு இருக்கிறதே யூத நாடு. அதைச் சுற்றி எத்தனை முஸ்லீம் தேசங்கள் இருக்கின்றன? இருபத்தாறு தேசங்கள். சிறிய நாடான இஸ்ரேல் பயப்படுகிறதா?”
நான் பிரமிப்பின் எல்லைக்கே போய்விட்டேன். ஆசிரியரான எனக்கு, இவ்வளவு துல்லியமான பூகோள ஞானம் கிடையாது என்பதை வெட்கத்தோடு ஒப்புக்கொள்ளத்தான் வேண்டும்.
மகா பெரியவாளின் பரந்த அறிவையும் மனோ தைரியத்தையும் வியந்து என் அறியாமையை நினைத்து வெட்கப்பட்டேன்.

This happened sometime during 1971. Once Kanchi Periyava was discussing on a lot of issues .He said “It seems they relay the Bhagavad Gita daily across radios in East Bengal. Have you heard about it?
I replied “Hindus all over the world are in a precarious situation. All other religions, especially Islam and Christianity have spread far and wide all over the world. If people of these faiths face problems in some part of the world, other nations come forward to help them. However, we Hindus alone, have to live in state of perpetual fear”.
Periyava then asked “Is it so? There is a Jewish nation called Israel. Do you know how many Muslim countries surround it on all sides? 26 Muslim countries. However, despite being a small nation, does Israel fear?
My amazement knew no bounds. Despite being a teacher, my knowledge of worldly affairs was limited. I was lost in admiration of Periyava’s vast knowledge and mental courage and at the same time felt a little despondent at my own ignorance.
