கார்த்திகைப் பண்டிகையன்று நிறைய அகல் ஏற்றி வைக்கிறோமல்லவா? இப்படி தீபத்தை ஏற்றும்போது ஒரு ஸ்லோகம் சொல்ல வேண்டும் என்று தர்மசாஸ்த்ரத்தில் விதித்திருக்கிறது.”புழுக்களோ, பக்ஷிகளோ, அல்லது ஒரு கொசுவாகத்தான் இருக்கட்டும், அந்தக் கொசுவோ, நம் மாதிரி உயிரில்லை என்று நினைக்கப்படுகிற வ்ருக்ஷமோ, இன்னும் ஜலத்திலும், பூமியிலும் எத்தனை தினுஸான ஜீவராசிகள் இருக்கின்றனவோ அவற்றில் எதுவானாலும் அதுவோ, மநுஷ்யங்களுக்குள்ளேயே பேதம் இல்லாமல் பிராம்மணனோ பஞ்சமனோ எவனானாலும் ஸரி, எதுவானாலும் ஸரி, இந்த தீபத்தைப் பார்த்து விட்டால் அந்த ஜீவனுடைய ஸகல பாபங்களும் நிவ்ருத்தியாகி, இன்னொரு ஜன்மா எடுக்காமல் நித்யானந்தத்தில் சேரட்டும்” என்று இந்த ஸ்லோகத்துக்கு அர்த்தம். பார்த்தால்’என்று ஸ்லோகத்தில் சொல்லியிருந்தாலும், “பார்க்காவிட்டாலும் பரவாயில்லை; மரம் மாதிரிப் பார்க்க சக்தியில்லாவிட்டாலும் பரவாயில்லை; அல்லது பார்க்கிற சக்தி வாய்ந்த பிராணிகளாக இருந்தும்கூட இந்த தீபத்தைப் பார்க்காவிட்டாலும் பாதகமில்லை; இந்த தீபத்தின் ப்ரகாசமானது அதைப் பார்க்கிறவர், பார்க்காதவர் எல்லார் மேலும் படுகிறதோ இல்லையோ? அம்மாதிரி இதன் ப்ரகாசம் படுகிற எல்லைக்குள் இருக்கிற ஸகல ஜீவராசிகளுக்கும் பாப நிவ்ருத்தி, ஜன்ம நிவ்ருத்தி, சாஸ்வதமான ச்ரேயஸ் கிடைக்க வேண்டும்”- என்றிப்படி அர்த்தம் பண்ணிக் கொள்ளலாம் என்று தோன்றுகிறது. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
We light lamps during the festival of Karthigai deepam. Our scriptures have enjoined upon us to recite a shloka when we do so. This shloka is a prayer to the Almighty to grant the boon of eternal bliss on all those beings that see this light. The being may be a worm or a bird or an ordinary mosquito or any living being in this universe, or even a tree which we do not generally consider to be having a life of its own or a human being of any caste or creed. Though the shloka refers to those beings who see this light it seems to be more appropriate to interpret it in the following way: the being may be unable to see the light as in the case of a tree or does not see the light even if it has the capability; but let all those living beings on whom the brightness of this light falls be freed from the shackles of sin, the cycle of birth and death and be bestowed with eternal blessing. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal
