This divine interplay between the two Periyavas transpired for Sri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy temple in Adyar, Madras; and Pudhu Periyava has performed two Mahakumbabhishekams here!
1956 THE CONSECRATION
Ever since the formation of two the colonies of Gandhinagar and Kasturibanagar, many residents therein expressed a keen desire to have a place of worship near at hand. At the above meeting the residents met informally expressed the view that a temple in a centre place of Adyar to be brought forth with the co-operation of all concerned.
On 12th December, 1956 a society by name Adyar Hindu Religious Society was formed at the residence of Sri. A. R. Narayana Rao, #2, 2nd Crescent Park road, Gandhinagar, Adyar.
A committee led by Sri. A.R. Narayana Rao approached His Highness Maharaja of Travancore, Sri Padmanabha Daasa Chithirai Thirunaall at the palace in Adyar and requested him to allot a place in his vast compound near the bus stand for constructing the temple. His highness promptly encouraged the idea that the temple and suggested that it be situated in an independent premises outside the palace and that he would himself provide necessary funds to purchase a site. Accordingly the above society received a cheque for Rs. 7500 from His Highness to enable the committee to obtain a suitable site and establish a temple dedicated to Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy.
His Highness Maharaja of Travancore agreed very kindly to donate the image or Vigaraha of Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy as it existed as the replica of Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy of Trivandrum.
His Holiness Shankaracharya Mahaswamigal of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam visited the site, blessed the venture and consecrated the spot. It was also his desire that there may be only one temple that the main shrine to be dedicated to Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy as portrayed exactly in Trivandrum.
1962 FIRST MAHAKUMBHABISHEKAM
With immense pleasure and grace, Sri Kanchi Sri Sri Paramacharial offered powerful “yanthras” for the temple which was installed by Sri Sringeri SriSaradha Peedathipathi Sri Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Mahaswamigal during the installation of the main deities in 1962 (the 1st MahaKumbhabhishekam of the temple).
1976 SECOND MAHAKUMBHABISHEKAM
On September 6th, 1976, MahaKumbhabhishekam was conducted by Sri Sakatapuram Sri Vidya Peedathipathi Sri Sri Ramachandranandha Theertha MahaSwamigal.
1988 THIRD MAHAKUMBHABISHEKAM
On July 11th, 1988, Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted by Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peedathipathi Sri Sri Jayendra Saraswathi MahaSwamigal.
2001 FOURTH MAHAKUMBHABISHEGAM
On February 11th, 2001, MahaKumbhabhishekam was conducted by Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peedathipathi Sri Sri Jayendra Saraswathi MahaSwamigal.

In 2011, Sri VittalDas Mahraj, opened the newly crafted Golden Doors of the Moolavar SriPadhmanaba Sannidhi.

On January 5, 2012 (SriVaikunda Ekadesi), Parama Poojya Jagadguru Sri Sankaracharya Swamiji Sri Sri SwayamPrakasa Sachidananda Saraswathi Sri SharadaLakshmi Narasimha Peetam, Hariharapuram, opened the newly crafted Golden Swargavasal Doors.
2012 GOLDEN JUBILEE YEAR -FIFTH MAHAKUMBHABISHEGAM !
With the blessings of Sringeri Jagadguru Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha Swamigal and Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peedathipathi Sri Sri Jayendra Saraswathi MahaSwamigal, in this Golden Jubilee year of SriAnantha Padmanabh`a Swamy Temple, the 5th Jeernodharana Ashtabandandhana MahaKumbabhishekam will be consecrated on Friday – 1st June 2012 at 9-35 am in the Divine presence and at the Golden hands of PARAMA POOJYA JAGADGURU SRI SANKARACHARYA SWAMIJI SRI SRI SWAYAM PRAKASA SACHIDANANDA SARASWATHI SRI SHARADALAKSHMI NARASIMHA PEETAM, HARIHARAPURAM.

The temple is constructed with dvajasthambam resembling the olden temples build by the ancient kings. The sannathi’s of Perumal, Vinayaga, Garuda, Anjaneya, Navagraha, Sudarshana, Lakshmi Narasimha, Asta Dasa Buja Maha Durga are available at the temple.
Brahmorsavam is conducted every year for 9 days during the Tamil Masi month. A broad Kanchi Mahaswamy Anantha mandapa has been constructed recently. Every year musical, dance programs, religious lectures and Navarathri celebrations are conducted in this mandapa. This mandapa has facilities to conduct all good events.
The main deity is installed based on the principles of vaitheegam. The temple rounds are conducted on thiruvona natchathra day of every month.
The golden chariot is completed and the daily ritual of golden chariot inner rounding is performed on a daily basis. The main deity and the other sannathi’s in the temple, Shri Garuda, Shri Sudarshana, Shri Lakshmi Narasimha, Shri Asta Buja Durga Devi, Shri Anjayneya and Navagraha has golden kavasam. Shri Ista siddhi vinayaga has a silver kavasam studded with American diamond.
The Dvajasthambam has been done on teak from Kerala with sembu covering coated with gold.
Mylapore Academy, Chennai has recently awarded the cleanest temple in city award. This temple is an example for the cleanliness. Devotees are happy because of the beauty and calmness in the temple.
