Sage of Kanchi

Poem by one of our dear readers

…who wish to remain anonymous….Thanks to him for sharing this. He is a retired physician – currently in his mid-eighties. We all pray for a very healthy and peaceful years ahead of him….

This poem was written inspired by His darshan.

                           A frail, sickly frame,

                              only half-clad,

                               In staid khadi wrap;

                               Yet it held within

                               An infinite spiritual charge.

                            Eyes that penetrate

                               like laser beams,

                               driving darkness of ignorance away.

                               Yet like gentle moonbeams

                               showering peace and grace.

                           Vision that soars

                               beyond space and time,

                               unfettered, untramelled,

                               to unravel the past, present

                               and future…anywhere.

                           A face that glows

                               with divinity sublime

                               and a cherubic smile

                               that lights up  the mind

                               of the sorrow laden seeker.

                           A silence that speaks

                               to the mind and heart.

                               Who wants speech

                               when replies come unsought

                               to questions unasked.

                          If God takes human form

                               to live on earth, teach

                               and bless his strayed flock,

                               He could well be

                           THE SAGE OF KANCHI

Tamil Translation

(Hats off to Smt Chitra for a fantastic translation)

The only change done to this Tamil poem is to change from  கடவுள் இவ[ரோ] என to  கடவுள் இவ[ரே]  – as none here doubts this. Thanks to the original poet for this correction. In fact this reminds me of one of the video interviews I watched (dont remember which one) where one brahmasri composed a similar poem on Periyava – but in Sanskrit – where he used a word to wonder if He is Sarveswaran and later completed by changing the word a bit to confirm that He is sarveswaran. This poem incident is exactly similar to the video interview also – what a coincidence!!!!
