அபிவாதனத்தில் எந்த மஹரிஷியுனுடைய ஸந்ததியில் பிறந்திருக்கிறோம் என்று சொல்கிறோமோ அந்த மஹரிஷி முதல் காயத்ரீ ஜபிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. அந்த கோத்திரத்தில் பிறந்ததற்காவது கர்மாநுஷ்டானங்களைச் செய்ய வேண்டியது நமது கடமை. அந்த முதல் ரிஷிக்கு அப்புறம் எவ்வளவோ பேர் ரிஷிகளாக இருந்திருக்கிறார்கள். த்ரயார்ஷேயம், பஞ்சார்ஷேயம், ஏகார்ஷேயம் என்று சொல்கிறோம். அதாவது அந்த அந்த கோத்திரத்தில் 3 ரிஷிகளோ, ஐந்து ரிஷிகளோ, ஒரு ரிஷியோ இருந்திருக்கிறார்கள் என்று இதனால் தெரியவருகிறது. அவர்கள் அப்படி தீர்க்காயுஸ், ஞானம், புகழ், பிரம்மதேஜஸ் முதலியவையுள்ள ரிஷிகளாக ஆனதற்குக் காரணம் அவர்கள் செய்த ஸந்தியாவந்தனம்தான். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
In abhivadana we mention the name of the sage from whom we descended. It is our duty to observe Vedic rituals at least for the fact that we belong to the gotra of that sage. After him there have been so many rishis in the lineage. We use the terms “trayarsheyam”, “pancharsheyam”, “ekarsheyam”, meaning that, in the gotras concerned, there were three sages, fives sages, one sage. They lived long, secured knowledge, fame, Brahmic lustre, and spiritual eminence due to performing Sandhyavandana. – Pujya Sri Kanchi Maha Periyava
