This incident was narrated by Sriram, my friend and ex-colleague, almost 15 years back. As of today, this is one of my favorite incidents! His father, Sri Ramanujam, a vaishnavite advocate from Kulithalai agraharam, a staunch devotee of Sri Matam. Both Mahaperiyava and Pudhuperiyava had stayed at his house every time they tour that place.
This incident happened probably in the 60s. In that agraharam, there lived a family with few children – boys and girls. They were one of the few well-affordable families in that area. They were primarily into doing some business and did very well – all money earned in dharmic way only. While things were going well for a long time, suddenly this family started to suffer. They experienced some mysterious things happening in their house – suddenly large ball of hair is seen on the floor, human waste in the middle of the hall, glasses breaking etc.
They were completely clueless on why all these scary things happening. On top of all these, every time any of their house members come outside, their dresses will be automatically torn – happened for women too. These incidents might sound unbelievable but this was witnessed by several in that agraharam.
Subsequently, they somehow figured out that this was all caused by some black magic by their business partner! Perplexed…. They couldn’t find a solution.
During that time, Mahaperiyava was visiting that area and came to that agraharam. He was given all warm welcome and He ended up staying in Kulithalai for few days. While enquiring about everyone, the residents of the street explained Periyava about the problem this family was facing and requested Periyava to help them.
Periyava was silently listening to them and did not say anything.
Next day, when He and his anukka thondars were walking on that street, people around Him pointed that specific house. Periyava paused for few seconds and looked straight into that house and walked away!
That one look destroyed every possible sufferings from that house. From that moment onwards, all the black magic effects were completely gone from that family. The normalcy was restored in the family. They were able to conduct their business and women were able to walk outside without any fear etc.
Every time, I think about this incident, the above photo comes to my mind. Second, I wonder the intensity of Periyava’s vision to destroy all evil powers and His karuna vilasam to help His devotees.
