Sri Sivan Sar Jayanthi – Oct 17th 2014

SriSivanSir-Jayanthi-2014.001-1

Dear devotees,

(is it Sir or Sar?!!!) – I am sure there is a reason why Sar is used – at least, I don’t know why…

I am glad to share the invitation for Sri Sivan Sar’s Jayanthi that falls on October 17, 2014. I had a great blessings to attend last year’s aradhana function of Sar. I understand from Shivaraman that back in those days, when they started celebrating these  events, there used to be just handful of members and that too it happens in someone’s house. Over a period of time, the devotees base increased and today this is a large event of Sar. I still couldn’t recover from the amazement that 1000+ devotees attended the aradhana event. To me, that is the largest gathering I ever witnessed for a Jayanthi/Aradhana event. Arrangements were so grand, good dinner was served (!)..Although I could not attend this year’s event, I got the blessing of being part of the very first planning meeting in Chennai. Did the same for last year’s aradhana also!!!  I welcome all of Chennai folks to this great occasion and receive the blessings of this mahan.

As Mahaperiyava said that Sar is a mahan by birth. As I start to understand about Him, I learnt that He had done lots of kaingkaryam to Sri Kanchi Matam for a long time. It seems that Periyava used to tell Sar’s devotees, “Dei, poi “onga” saarai kootindu vangoda..” Sar used to come. I always wonder how those meetings would have occurred..I have seen few video footages of devotees with Sar..I am asking Shivaraman to bring them out as well….When Sar decides, they will come out…

Often Yeni Padigalil Mandhargal (YPM) is equated to Sar. I have the book – yet to immerse myself into it. In that book, Sar had defined paapi, viveki, yogi, gnani based on activities we all do…If those are applied to us, all of us would fall under paapis. They are not to intimidate us – it is only to help us.. Sar said:

It is a fully loaded statement! By following these truly, one would be in the top of the scale defined by Sar in YPM. In fact, a foreigner (I think it was Paul Brunton – need to check) asked Mahaperiyava if one (as a foreigner like him) has to do all karmas/rituals as prescribed in the veda, Periyava took a long time to think. Finally spoke the Brahmam, “As long as one lives a simple life, with kindness to all and true to themselves and absolute faith to the supreme and a passion to self-realization, one can reach the abode of Parameswaran” – how similar it is to what Sar said too!! Let us not take this statement out of context, apply to us and give up whatever little karma we are doing!!! This was given only to a foreigner for whom such karmas are not prescribed 🙂
