With Bakrid over this weekend, there was a great demand for cows for sacrifice. Viswanathan and myself were running around crazily and by Periyava Krupai saved as many as 40 cows/calves just over this weekend. Many of these cows were saved outside my home when I stopped the truck and bought those cows before they went to slaughterhouses. You can see in one of the videos the slaughter house truck driver is asking me to not to take picture of the truck, I did not listen to him any way.
Our Goshala has accommodated all these cows for now but several challenges with respect to rehabilitation, food, labor will start now. If you haven’t already, I kindly request you all to transfer your monthly contributions as we are running tight on several fronts. Posting a few pics below of the rescue efforts.
I reached out to Gurukataksham Trust and Sethubandanam for their help and support and they did respond swiftly by helping save all these cows. Thanks much to them without which we would have seen a trace of these precious and innocent souls. Rama Rama

Perplexed by Ms Shanthi’s comments. Perhaps I have not understood her. Are you saying we should not save cows which are about to be slaughtered?

Sorry I disagree with the writer on this. Who gave us the adhikaaraa to interfere and cause impediments to someone from other religions follow their rituals or food habits?Let him walk through the streets of Chennai to see how cows are being treated by owners themselves. Will our hindu brethren living in US dare attempt something like this there?Where has mahaperivaa told his devotees to indulge in such activities. We need to remember the Kolkana siddhar ‘s encounter with the butcher.

A Muslim Gentleman has urged not to kill cows so as to not hurt Hindu’s feelings. Why are you getting worked up ? This is the problem with Hindus, we are too concerned about others religion than ours. This is called Pseudo secularism. Yes, let us be united with all but I don’t think it is wrong if one tries to save cows & Ox from getting killed. He did not go to a Muslim person’s house or party & shouted stop eating meat. He just saved cows & Ox that he saw on some vehicles on the road. So don’t go around questioning “adhikaaraa” of others who do their duty as members of Sanatana Dharma. Let us be united with other religions but before that let us first try to do our duty as Sanatana Dharma members. We people in Tamil Nadu have been spectators to many atrocities against Hindus & Brahmins. Let us first raise our voice against that. Charity starts from home.

Let me answer your questions/points one by one:
1. This cow rescue was done not by threatning or force. I stopped the truck and negotiated with the slaughterhouse guy, told him the importance of an innocent and voiceless life. We paid him the more than the market value and rescued the cows.
2. The area I live in for the past five years have been surrounded by milk man and cows and I’m perfectly aware of their conditions and plight. Does that mean it is ok to slaughter them? If so, then there are so many humans around the world who lead their lives in slums ridden with poverty/hunger and in most pathetic conditions. Can we kill them too and put an end to their misery?
3. I have lived in US for 17 years and they don’t transport cows like this in a cruel manner. In fact, in my several years of living in US I have never seen a single cow getting transported in a truck. The cows are grown in farms, after their milking period they are killed. Once I gained the awareness on Gho Samrakshana, myself and a few friends saved a couple of cows by talking to a farm guy who sold a couple of cows to us in upstate NY. The cows are residing in Lakshmi Cow Sanctuary, PA.
4. Maha Periyava has quoted extensively on the need for ‘strong campaign’ against cow killing. He has asked us to explain patiently to all the other religions on the importance of compassion and saving the cows. There are thirty three chapters in Deivathin Kural exclusively dedicated to Gho Samrakshana. Please see the links below on the exact point you have mentioned. There are several other chapters where HH has stressed NOT even a ‘Single Cow’ should be sent for slaughter.

5. You had mentioned we should not interfere in other religion’s beliefs. There is no where it states in Quran or Bible they should kill a cow or bull during Bakrid. I have several Muslim friends who can tell this. Even assuming it is true, going by the same logic, would you agree with the following statement in Quran? If someone beheads us just because we are non-muslims and tell us they are just following what Quran says and it is their religious practice would you say the same thing?
