A Majestic Jallikattu Rishabam with multiple fractures rescued & rehabilitated

As everything about the cow is great and nothing inferior, the urine and dung of the cow also serve as medicines. Though presently new diseases keep cropping up every day, one thing is obvious – that stomach tumors in children have been brought under control to a great extent due to the invention of what is called “preventive medicines”.  At the time it was prevalent widely, cow’s urine happened to hold a prime position among the medicines for it. – Jagadguru Chandrasekharendra Saraswathy Swamigal

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara,

As we may have all experienced in our lives, humans are the one’s with least gratitude. For all the wealth that Cows/Rishabams gives us man should at least consider keeping the cows till their lifetimes but what happens is the exact opposite. As soon as a cow or rishabam is injured or falls sick the next moment that happens is, the poor jeevan is shown the door to slaughterhouse whereas the need of the hour is to comfort, love, care and feed. I always used to tell the cow sellers what happens if you are lying down injured and how will you feel if your son/daughter try to sell you to slaughter? All I get back is a sheepish creepy grin….

A very majestic Jallikattu rishabam in Madurai (we have contacts in many places who notifies us when a cow is going to be sold for slaughter) that served his master all these years somehow met with an accident and suffered multiple fractures. All he needed was medical attention and a few months of time to recover and recuperate. Instead of taking care of him, the owner decided to sell him to a butcher and by Periyava’s grace we purchased him before he ended up in butcher’s hands. From Madurai, we took him to Orathanadu Vetirenery hospital for treatment who advised he needs a lot of rest and downtime along with regular treatment. We asked a couple of Gosala’s in Madurai to shelter him temporarily and said we will pay for his medical expenses but they refused rightaway. We could have brought him to our Chennai temporary shelter but given his condition wanted the travel to be as minimal as possible so continued to look around the area. We requested a big Gosala in Tanjore delta region for temporary accommodation. They had him for a couple of days but sounded very negative about his treatment as well as survival. In the two days he was there they did not even call the doctor despite our requests to have him treated. Very disappointed with this attitude we found a passionate animal lover and volunteer by name Sunitha in Virudhunagar area who agreed to keep the rishabam and provide him treatment. The rishabam is now undergoing treatment and recovering. We are taking care of his treatment expenses and closely monitoring his health. We also provided a cow lifting equipment which is proving invaluable in the circumstances.

Pictures and video clips below. See how majestic he was and his condition now. Please pray to Periyava for him to get well soon and be back up on his feet. Thank you very much for all the kind hearts who are contributing for our cow rescue efforts that is really helping us undertake these kind of initiatives.
