In earlier days all our Villages had ‘Pasu Matams’ (cow shelters) for preserving the cows – a Dharma in which we have lost interest in later years. But see how affectionately and devotedly do these North Indians nurture the cows by establishing Ghoshalas ans Pinjarapols! A law can easily be enforced against cow slaughter. But if we don’t make proper arrangements to look after the cows which are no longer useful for milking and farming, then they would be made to suffer out of starving and being malnourished. Ghorakshanam on one side is a great act of compassion; while on the other hand that in itself is a big Lakshmi Puja. – Jagadguru Chandrasekharendra Saraswathy Swamigal

It’s been a while you heard about cow rescues and I’m catching up on several fronts but let me assure one thing. Cow rescues are happening week after week which I will start posting one by one. As part of Mahalaya Paksham Gho Dhanam several of our blog readers came forward and we did many Gho Dhanams. In this process we managed to save the lives of 27 cows and 27 calves which were directly bought from slaughter house brokers before they were about to be killed. It is all Periyava Anugraham that we could save these lives. Instead of Gho Dhanam, a few of the donors wanted to do Gho Puja and Gho Bhojanam which we did as well. It is all Periyava Anaugraham that we could save many Gho Mathas and calves during this auspicious Pithru Paksham. Below are some of the pictures of Gho Dhanam and Gho Puja. Rama Rama
