500th Cow Rescue – A Small Accomplishment and the journey ahead…

Bhagavan has said in Gita that “Parasparam Bhavayanthaha”, there should be a mutual nurturing between the cow and man. During the yielding period of the cow, the nourishment that it offers is more than what we give to it. That gratitude should always be there even after it stops yielding milk. So we should protect the cow as long as it lives. Not only for the yielding cows but also for the protection of unyielding cows too there should be an increase in the number of cow sheds, Pasu matams and Pinjrapols which are presently few in number. What we spend for this purpose is only an investment in the form of Punya and so we should come forward to donate liberally both money as well as physical help without any hesitation.

The Gho Rakshana Dharma that has been embedded in this nation’s ancient culture should speak in our blood. Speaking that way it should make us get involved in cow protection with the same zeal as that of a cow which would run to feed its hungry calf. – Jagadguru Chandrasekharendra Saraswathy Swamigal

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara – With the benign blessings and grace of Sri Periyava and all of your support, exactly after 2 yrs after the 1st cow rescue, I’m delighted to say we have saved over 500+ cows in the last couple of years. To be more precise, the first cow rescue we did was in my area on Sep 1 2018 HERE. We have come a long way since then and there have been many learning for me personally in these cow rescue operations. So many heartbreaks, pains, lessons learned, etc. which I will share over time. Over the last couple of weeks several cows and calves have been saved, couple of which are badly injured and limping.

500 may be a minuscule number but looking at it from the shoes of a Gho Matha/Rishabam/Calf and the great escape these noble and innocent 500+ had from the hands of a butcher from being cruelly slaughtered is what matters most. This is just the start and we have a long way to go…. Also, we have noted down all the volunteer names who have signed up for tracking our rescued cows. I have started off with a couple, will reach out to one by one on this over time.

Below are the pictures of the cows rescued in my area over the last few days. Let’s all collectively pray to Periyava who taught us the importance of Gho Matha Samrakshanam and also showing a way in rescuing these voiceless souls to help us save more. Our journey continues….Rama Rama

  3. 500 cows is no small feat..IT requires massive dedication and passion with abundant blessings from Mahaswami and Kanchi acharyas. IF you remember, we both talked about doing 12 cows rescued in a year few years ago and I can’t believe that you have reached this great milestone. I hope that you will continue this service and soon setup a Ghosala to house the cows too. If He wishes, it could happen too.

  4. Great Service… Shri Periyava Charanam

  5. If you can give the approximate cost of rescuing a cow and also monthly maintenance cost of such a cow, it’ll help us decide the donation amount.

    • It really varies,,,on an average I would say around Rs. 20k for saving a cow. Maintenance will be Rs. 2k per month so I’m trying to avoid it by giving it to places where they are self sufficient or used for organic farming. Rama Rama
