Absolute must-watch 15 mts. Everyone should know the “right” thing. Mama hits right on all our head with a hammer to correct on all the wrong things we are doing. Mama authoritatively says that we have absolutely no right to deviate even one inch from what our dharma sastra says. As he rightly says, there are umpteen opportunities to demonstrate our knowledge on sahasranamams etc but not in front of a dead body.

I am not very good in shastram and anushtanam.what one should do or not do.certainly if person who is delivering is authentic or known person.i will follow unconditionally. Some may react differentlyall depends sometimes on the situation . above whether you follow or not you believe or not don’t criticize.
I differ the view of Sri Sridhar1953. As Mama said in the video, we are not authoritative to give our opinion or change the rituals as what is said in Veda/Sastras.
The best thing what we can do is to follow the Veda/Sastras with utmost trust. If not, pl. stay away from it rather than commenting it as we are no near to it.
We can always debate on this with the result of nothing. Why to waste time?
The confidence and the authority with which mama declares the message from Vedasastras is proof enough. Mama IS an authority on things of which most of us have little knowledge. Most of us who do not even. perform the NithyAnushtanas have no business to doubt Mama’s message. Moreover MahaPeriava has many a time said that Vedas and Shastras should be believed and followed without questioning them. We are in no way qualified to question and doubt the scriptures told by those great Rishi’s. So let us follow them verbatim instead of displaying our ignorance.
We may not like the message – that doesn’t take away the quality of people. This mama is considered as one of the few authorities in dharma sastra in today’s world in TN I could think of. You & I dont have any qualification to challenge him – period.
The other Mami just said what Mahaperiyava said in front of her. Mami could be illiterate when it comes to sastra but she witnessed Mahaperiyava’s statement. There is one more person who also acknowledged that in a completely a different time, place etc where Mahaperiyava said the same thing. I think he has written in the comment section.
Only when we point to what we should not do, we will know what we should do. The sastra may not say that we should not do certain thing but that does not mean that we can do those.
It is very true that over time, we have diluted what sastra says in general – in all matters. You take marriage, you take upanayanam or any other topic – things have diluted big time. This is one of them.

I think this is the second postings in a week with negative comments.
First i was one mami who claimed that Mahaperiyava told her that women should not chant Vishnu Sahasranamam (I totally disagree with her statement, though).
Now this mama comes with another ‘revelation’ about chanting of Sahasranama in the presence of the dead body.
I am not aware what the the Shastras or Smritis say in this matter. What mama says could be correct also.
But chanting God’s name anywhere and anytime is always good.
But please note that there thousands of noble instructions in the Shastras which should be followed.
It would be better if we could highlight what ‘we should do’ instead of focusing on such things as ‘what we should NOT do’.
Shastras are meticulously followed only in pockets of South India. In the rest of the country the various reformative sects have diluted the Shastras.
So let us focus and highlight all the positive aspects to be followed in the Shastras. Once we get sufficient people to follow them then we can also highlight such negative aspects.
In the north, where I have lived, Rama-Nama is always chanted continuously till the body is consumed to the Pyre. It is believed that chanting the Divine Name consecrates the entire place and helps the movement of the Atma on its journey.

It says : During the last moments, it is important for the dying person to chant the name of Bhagawan- Govinda, Siva Siva etc., Stotras, portions of Veda, Gayatri etc., and pray to Bhagawan for forgiveness for the sins committed, with the sense of complete surrender. Sastras declare unequivocally that the final thoughts of the dying person form the basis of his next birth. Hence it is important for the relatives to create a divine and peaceful atmosphere, chant Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatham, stotrams like Vishnu Sahsranamam and, most importantly, avoid mundane discussions and quarrels. If a yogi comes and gives darshan to the dying person, he attains to the Supreme state, even if he is a great sinner. Many Danams are stipulated in Sastra.
