அதிகார புருஷர் வரிசையே ஆசார்ய பரம்பரை
பூர்வாசார்யர்களின் கதைகளைத் தெரிந்துகொண்ட பிறகே ஆசார்யாள் கதையைத் தெரிந்து கொள்வது முறை என்பதால் தெரிந்து கொண்டோம்.
நம்முடைய அறிவாகிய ஆத்ம ஜ்யோதிஸைப் பூர்ணமாக ப்ரகாசிக்கச் செய்து, நம்மைத் துக்கமில்லாமல் ஆக்குவதற்கான ஸாதனங்களைக் கொடுக்க நமக்கு ஆசார்யர் அவச்யம் வேண்டும். இப்படி ஒரு காலத்தில் வருகிற ஆசார்யர் பிற்காலத்தில் இந்தக் கார்யத்தைத் தொடருவதற்காக இன்னொருவருக்கு அதிகாரம் கொடுக்கிறார். தம் அறிவையும் அநுபவத்தையும் அவருக்குள்ளே செலுத்துவதால் இப்படிப்பட்ட அதிகாரத்தை அளிக்கிறார். இப்படியே வரிசையாக அதே ஞானக் கரண்ட் தொடர்ச்சியாக அதிகாரம் பெற்றவர்களின் வழியாக குரு பரம்பரை என்பதாகப் பாய்வதால்தான் லோகத்துக்கு எல்லாக் காலத்திலும் விடாமல் ஞான வெளிச்சம் கிடைக்கிறது. எலெக்ட்ரிஸிடியை ‘சார்ஜ்’ ஆவது என்கிறோம். ஒருத்தர் இன்னொருத்தருக்கு அதிகாரம் கொடுப்பதையும் ‘சார்ஜ்’ கொடுப்பதென்றே சொல்கிறோம்! ஒரு குரு தம் சிஷ்யருக்குள் ஞான எலெக்ட்ரிஸிடியைச் சார்ஜ் பண்ணி அப்புறம் ‘என் மாதிரி நீ இனிமேல் குருவாயிரு’ என்று பதவியை ஒப்படைத்தும் அவருக்கு சார்ஜ் கொடுக்கிறார்! அதிகார பூர்வமாக சார்ஜ் வாங்கிக் கொண்டவர்தானே ஆபீஸ் பண்ண முடியும்? குருவின் ஆபீஸும் அப்படித்தான். யார் வேண்டுமானாலும் குரு என்று உட்கார்ந்துவிட முடியாது. வரிசை க்ரமத்தில் இப்படி அதிகாரம் பெற்றவர்களைத்தான் குரு பரம்பரை என்பது. அவர்களே ஞான ப்ரகாசத்தைத் தொடர்ந்து லோகத்துக்குக் கொடுத்துக் கொண்டிருப்பவர்கள். இந்தப் பரமோபகாரத்தைப் பண்ணுபவர்கள் என்பதால்தான் ஆசார்ய பரம்பரையைப் பற்றி ஆசார்யாள் கதையில் தெரிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டியது அவச்யம் என்று கேட்டோம்.

Spiritually charged successors form the Acharya Parampara
Since it is proper to know the story of Acharya [Sri Adi Sankara] only after knowing the life story of the previous Acharyas, we have seen those stories too.
To make our intellect – which is the light within us [आत्म ज्योतिष्] – glow brightly, and to provide us with the means to be free from miseries, an Acharya is certainly required for us. The Acharya who is there at one point of time, passes on the authority to another to continue this job. Since he instils both his knowledge and experience into his successor, the authority is handed over in total. Only because this knowledge current is passed on continuously through the persons who receive the authority, in the form of Guru Parampara, the world is able to receive the light of ‘Supreme Knowledge’ [Jnanam] without any interruption.
We refer to electricity getting ‘charged’. We refer to passing on the authority from one person to another also as handing over of ‘charge’! A Guru, after charging the electricity of Jnana into his disciple and later by entrusting him with the post, saying, ‘From now on, you be a Guru, like me’, hands over the charge to him. Only a person who has taken charge under an authority can conduct the office – is it not? A Guru’s office is also similar. Anybody cannot call himself a Guru. Only the successors who are authorised like this are called Guru Parampara. They are the ones providing the light of Jnana continuously to the world. Because they are rendering such a benevolent service and since it is essential to know about the Acharya Parampara in the story of Acharya [Sri Adi Sankara] we have listened to them too.
Let us now go to the story of his incarnation.
