பால், தயிர், நெய் தவிரப் பஞ்ச கவ்யத்திலுள்ள கோ மூத்ரத்தாலோ, கோமயத்தாலோ தனித்தனியே அபிஷேகம் செய்கிற வழக்கம் இல்லை. ஆனால் ஐந்தையும் கலந்த பஞ்சகவ்யத்தால் அபிஷேகம் செய்வது விசேஷம். அப்படி ஈச்வரார்ப்பணமாவதுதான் பசுக் குலத்துக்கே பெருமை சேர்ப்பது என்று அப்பர் ஸ்வாமிகள் பாடியிருக்கிறார்:

ஆவினுக்(கு) அருங்கலம் அரன் அஞ்சாடுதல்*

’ஆ’ என்றால் பசு. ‘அஞ்சாடுதல்’ என்பது பஞ்சகவ்யத்தில் நீராடுவது; அதாவது பஞ்ச கவ்யத்தால் அபிஷேகம் பெறுவது.

Except the three products namely milk, curd, and ghee it is not customary to do Abhishekam with the other two in the Panchagavyam like cow’s urine and dung individually. But it is special to do Abhishekam with Panchagavyam which is a mixture of all the five. Appar Swamigal has sung that to offer them as a dedication to Eswaran brings forth great pride to the entire species of the cow.

“Aavinukku Arungalam Aran Anjaadudhal”*

‘Aa’ means cow; ‘Anjaadudhal’ is to get bathed in Panchagavyam; that is to get Abhishekam done with Panchagavyam.
