பக்தரும் பாதுகைகளும்

பரமேஸ்வரரின் பூர்ணகருணையும் ஒருமித்து உலகோரை உய்விக்க ஒரு எளியத் துறவி திருஉருவெடுத்து ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவாளாய் திருஅவதாரம் கொண்டு அருளும் போது அந்தத் தெய்வத்தின் மகத்துவம் சுகப்பிரம்ம ரிஷியின் மேன்மையோடு விளங்கியது வியப்பல்லவே.

இப்படி ஒரு அன்பும் எளிமையுமான தெய்வம் நம்மிடையே நடமாடியபோது நம்மில் பலர் அந்த மேன்மையான தரிசன பாக்யத்தைக்கூட பெறாதவர்களாக இருக்க அப் பரம்பொருளை முழுமையாக அனுபவித்து சதாசர்வகாலமும் நினைத்து உருகி ஒரு ஐக்கியம் ஆகும் நிலைக்கு உயர்ந்திட்ட பிரம்மஸ்ரீ பிரதோஷம் மாமாவின் பக்தி இப்போதெல்லாம் பல பக்தர்களின் நடுவே சிலாகித்துப் பேசப்படுகிறது. பிரவசனங்கள் மூலமாகவும் அவர்தம் பூர்ணபக்தியை வியப்புற விவரிக்கப்பட்டு பிராபல்யமாக பரவும்படி அமைகிறது.

இப்படி ஒரு பக்தியின் மேன்மையை அனுபவித்த அன்பராய் கடம்வித்வான் T.H. விநாயகராம் அவர்களையும் ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளைக் கெட்டியாக பிடித்துக்கொள்ள பிரதோஷம் மாமா சில சமயங்களில் இவர்களின் குடும்பத்தையே ஒட்டு மொத்தமாக சினம் கொண்டு கடிந்து கொண்ட தருணங்கள் ஏராளம். ஒரு தந்தை தன் பிள்ளையிடம் காட்டும் கோபம் தன் பிள்ளையின் மேல் கொண்டுள்ள அலாதிப் பிரியமும் அக்கறையின் வெளிப்பாடே என்பது போல் ‘அண்ணா சொன்னா அது நம் குடும்பத்துக்கு நல்லது செய்த்தான்’ என்ற உணர்வோடு அக்குடும்பம் முழுவதும் வாழையடிவாழையாக பிரதோஷம் மாமாவின் அன்புக்குக் கட்டுப்பட்டவர்களாக அந்தப் பெரும் பக்தர் காட்டும் வழியே தங்களின் நல்வழி என்பதாக நம்பிக்கையுடன் உறுதியாக வாழ்கின்றனர்.

ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளன்றி ஒரு தெய்வமுமில்லை என்ற வைராக்கிய மனதோடு பக்தி ஏற்படுத்திக் கொண்டு, ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் திருப்படங்களன்றி தங்கள் இல்ல பூஜையறைகளில் வேறு எந்த தெய்வமும் பெரியவாளுக்குள் அடக்கம் என்ற முழு நம்பிக்கை ஏற்பட்ட நிலையில், அந்த நடமாடும் தெய்வத்தின் திருப்பாதுகைகள் தங்கள் இல்லத்தில் பூஜிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்ற ஆவலும் கடம் சகோதரர்களின் மனதில் தாளமிட ஆரம்பித்தது.

வேண்டிய மாங்கனியை முதலில் கணபதிக்குக் கொடுத்து திருவிளையாடல் செய்ததுபோல் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா முதலில் அண்ணனான ஸ்ரீ விநாயகராம் அவர்களுக்குப் பாதுகையைப் பெறும் பாக்யம் அளித்துவிட்டார். திருவல்லிக்கேணியில் கூட்டுக்குடும்பமாக இருந்த நிலையில் அண்ணன் மட்டும் திருப்பாதுகையோடு ஆனந்தம் பொங்க வந்த போது தம்பிக்கு ஏக்கம் மிகுந்தது. தனக்குக் கிட்டவில்லையே அந்த பாக்யம் என்ற பக்திபரவசத்தின் அடிப்படையில் அமைந்த சாத்விகமான சுபாஷ்சந்திரன் சதா சர்வகாலமும் அதே நினைப்போடு சஞ்சலமுற்றார்.

இடையில் இவர்களுக்கெல்லாம் பக்தி வழிக் காட்டும் பிரதோஷம் மாமா “ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா பாதுகை ரொம்ப பவித்ரமானது. கிடைச்சா ரொம்ப பக்தியோட கொண்டாடி வைச்சுக்கணும். ரொம்ப சிரத்தையோடு பூஜை செய்யணும்…….உங்க குடும்பத்துக்கே அந்த ஈஸ்வரரான ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா கொடுத்தா இந்த ஒரு பாதுகையே போதும்…….வேற யாரும் பெரியவாளை தொந்திரவு பண்ணிக் கேட்க வேண்டாம் என்ற ரீதியில் ஒரு அன்புக் கட்டளையிட்டு விட்டார்.

பிரதோஷம் மாமா எனும் தங்கள் அண்ணா சொன்ன அதை மீற முடியாது என்ற நிலையில் இருந்தது அந்தக் குடும்பம். அதனால் சுபாஷ்சந்திரனுக்கு ஒரு தனி ஆவர்த்தனமாக தனேக்கே தனக்கென ஒரு பக்தி வாசிப்பைக் காட்ட பிரத்யேகமான ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா பாதுகை கிட்டவே கிட்டாதா என்ற அளவிட முடியாத ஆதங்கமே ஏற்பட்டது.

ஞான மாம்பழத்தை அடைந்தேயாக வேண்டுமென்று மயிலேறி மூவுலகை வலம்வந்த முருகனைப்போல் மனஉளைச்சல் என்ற மயிலேறி மூன்று மாதங்களாக சுபாஷ்சந்திரன் அதே குறிக்கோளாய் இருந்தார்.

ஒருமுறை அண்ணன், தம்பிகள் என்று கடைசி தம்பியான வயலின் விதவான் T.H. குருமூர்த்தி குடும்பம் வரை ஒரு பெரிய வேனில் பிரதோஷம் மாமா இல்லத்திற்கு வந்தனர். அன்றும் இவர்கள் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா பக்தி என்பதை முழுமையாக பெறச்செய்வதில் காட்டும் முனைப்பாய் மாமா இவர்களையெல்லாம் ஏதோ ஒரு சிறு பக்தி குறைப்பாட்டிற்காகக் கடிந்துக் கொண்டார். எல்லோரிடமும் சினம் கொண்டாலும் உடனே பனிபோல் அகன்று அன்பாய் தழுவும் அலாதியான கனிவு மாமாவிடம் மட்டுமே பக்தர்கள் அனுபவித்துள்ளனர்.

அப்படிப்பட்ட கனிவோடு அன்று சுபாஷ்சந்திரனிடம் மட்டும் பிரதோஷம் மாமா அவரைத் தன்னுடன் ஸ்ரீமடத்திற்கு வரும்படி சொன்னார். உடனே ஆனந்தமாக சுபாஷ்சந்திரன் அந்த இரவு மடத்திற்கு மாமாவுடன் புறப்பட்டுவிட்டார்.

ஸ்ரீமடத்தில் இரவே போய்த் தங்கி ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ பரமேஸ்வரரான பெரியவாளின் விஸ்வரூபதரிசனம் எனும் பெரும்பாக்யத்தை அனுபவித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த அந்த நாயன்மாருடன் அந்த இரவு மேனாவின் சமீபத்தில் சுபாஷ்சந்திரனும் படுத்துக் கொண்டார்.

சாட்சாத் கைலாசபதி இரவுபகல் பாராமல் உலகோரை ரட்சிக்க உறங்காமல் மேனாவில் தான் படுத்துறங்குவதுபோல் பாவனை செய்து கொண்டிருக்க, அதே உறக்கமிலா நிலையில் சுபாஷ்சந்திரனின் மனமும் உழன்று கொண்டிருந்தது.

உறக்கத்தில் தான் கனவுவரும் என்பதல்ல, நினைப்பிலும் கனவு காணலாம் என்பதை தன் நெடுநாளைய ஏக்கமான திரு பாதுகையைப் பெறும் ஆவல். இவரது எண்ணம் முழுவதிலும் நிறைந்தது. அந்த நினைவே கனவாகி பல வடிவங்கள் கொண்டது.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா அதிகாலை தரிசனத்தின் போது தானே வலிய தன் திருப்பாதுகையை இவருக்கு அளிப்பது போலவும், தான் அப்படி திருப்பாதுகையை யாசிக்க எங்கிருந்தோ யாரோ ஒரு பக்தர் பூ மலர்களால் செய்த பாதுகையை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளிடம் சமர்ப்பிக்க அதை மகான் தரிசித்துக்கொண்டு இவரிடம் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளும்படி அருளுவதுப் போலவும் இன்னும் எவ்வாறெல்லாம் பாதுகையை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா தனக்குக் கொடுக்கலாம் என்று பல்வேறு கற்பனைகளுடன் சுபாஷ்சந்திரன் புரண்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

உங்க குடும்பத்துக்கு ஒரே பாதுகை போறும். வேற கேட்க வேண்டாம் என்று முன்பு சொன்ன மாமா ஏனோ இப்போது சுபாஷ்சந்திரனிடம் “ உனக்கும் பாதுகை வேணுமோ? சரி நான் சொன்னேன்னு குமரேசன் கிட்டே கேட்டு வாங்கிக்கோ” என்று திடீரென்று மனம்மாறிக் கூறியபோது இவருக்கு வியப்பும், மகிழ்ச்சியுமாகப் போய்விட்டது.

‘ஆஹா……அண்ணாவே உத்தரவு கொடுத்துட்டா’ என்ற ரீதியில் இவர் தன் ஏக்கம் தீரப்போகிறதென்று சந்தோஷப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்த போதே மாமா சடாலென்று,

டேய் நீ பாதுகை கிடைச்சா அதை சிரத்தையா ரட்சிப்பாயாடா…..போ…..போ என்று திரும்பவும் கடுமையாக எதையோ எச்சரிப்பதுபோல் இவரிடம் சொல்லிவிட்டுப் போய்விட்டார். ஸ்ரீ பாதுகை அப்படியே கிடைக்கும் பட்சத்தில் அதை எத்தனைப் பவித்திரமாக வைத்து பூஜிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற உணர்த்தல் அந்தக் கட்டளையில் தெரிந்தது. ஆனாலும் தனக்கு அந்தத் தகுதியில்லை. அதனால் பாதுகையைக் கேட்காதே என்று அண்ணா எச்சரித்துவிட்டரோ என்ற கவலையும் ஏற்படலாயிற்று.

இருப்பினும் தனக்கு சாதகமானக் கட்டளையாக குமரேசனைக் கேட்டு வாங்கிக்கோ என்று பிரதோஷமாமாவின் வாக்கினை மட்டும் பிடித்துக் கொண்டது.

விஸ்வரூபதரிசனத்தின்போது சுபாஷ்சந்திரன் கற்பனை செய்து கொண்டதுபோல் அப்படி ஒன்றும் சுலபமாக நிகழவில்லை. எதுவும் சுலபமாக நடந்துவிட்டால் அதன் மேன்மை நீர்த்துவிடுமல்லவா.

சுபாஷ்சந்திரன் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் தரிசனத்திற்குப் பின் பிரதோஷம் அண்ணாவுடன் பங்காரு அம்மன் தோட்டம் திரும்பினார். உடனே மற்ற குடும்பத்தினரோடு சென்னைக்கும் வேனில் புறப்பட்டுவிட்டார். வேன் ஸ்ரீமடத்தை நெருங்க நெருங்க இவர் மனதிலும் ஒரு எண்ணம் நெருங்கிவரலானது.

குமரேசன் கிட்டே கேட்டு வாங்கிக்கோ என்று அண்ணா சொன்னாளே அந்த வாக்கு பொய்யாகுமா….. ஆகாதே! அதை ஏன் நாம் விட்டுவிட்டுப் போக வேண்டும்? என்று அவருக்கு தோன்ற சட்டென்று வேனை நிறுத்தச் சொன்னார்.

“கொஞ்சம் வேலை இருக்கு. நானும் குமாரும் இறங்கிக்கிறோம். அப்புறம் வர்றோம்………நீங்களெல்லாம்  புறப்படுங்கோ என்று தன் மைத்துனர் குமாருடன் இறங்கிக் கொண்டு வேனை போகச் சொல்லிவிட்டார்.

ஏதோ ஒரு வேகத்தில் யோசிக்காமல் இறங்கி விட்டது பிசகோ என்று ஸ்ரீமடத்தில் நுழைந்தவருக்குத் தோன்றுபடியாக அங்கே பக்தர்கள் கூட்டம் அலைமோதிக் கொண்டிருந்த்து. ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா தரிசனமும் முடிந்துவிட்டிருந்தது.

அந்த சமயங்களில் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் உடல்நிலை சற்றே நலிந்திருந்தது. தொண்ணூறு வருடங்களாக வருத்திக் கொண்டு உலக நன்மைக்காக பல தலங்களையும் விரதங்களையும் மேற்கொண்டதின் பாதிப்பால் நேர்ந்திருந்த பலஹீனம். இதனால் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளை எப்போது வேண்டுமானாலும் தரிசிக்கலாம் என்ற சகஜநிலைமை சற்றே குறைந்து எப்போதும் கைங்கர்யம் செய்பவர்கள் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளை அதிகம் சிரமப்படுத்தாமல் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தனர்.

இப்படியான ஒரு நிலையிருக்க அங்கே ஏற்கனவே காத்திருக்கும் பெரும் திரள் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா தரிசனமே கிட்டுமோ கிட்டாதோ என ஏங்கிக் கொண்டிருக்க, ஸ்ரீ சுபாஷ்சந்திரனுக்கு மட்டும் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா தரிசனமும் கிடைத்தது. அதற்கு மேலும் ஸ்ரீ பாதுகையும் பெற்றுக் கொள்ளும் சாத்யக்கூறுகள் கிட்டுமா என்பது மிக மிக ஆபூர்வம் தான்.

இதே போன்ற ஒரு அபூர்வமான சந்தர்ப்ப சூழ்நிலையில் பிரதோஷம் மாமா சொன்ன வாக்கின் பலனாக ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா சுபாஷ்சந்திரனிடம் திரட்டிப்பாலை வாங்கி உட்கொண்டதுபோல இச்சமயமும் அமையாதா என்ன?

ஸ்ரீசுபாஷ்சந்தரனின் மனதில் நிச்சயம் இந்தக் கூட்டத்தில் தன் எண்ணம் ஈடேற வாய்ப்பே இல்லை என தோன்றினாலும் அண்ணா சொல்லியிருக்காளே……அதன்படி குமரேசன் மாமாவைக் கேட்டால் என்ன என்று ஒரு சிறு நம்பிக்கை எழுந்தது.

அந்த பெரும் கூட்டத்தில் முன்னேறி ஸ்ரீ குமரேசன் அவர்களைக் கண்டு பிடிப்பதே சிரமமாகப் போய்விட்டது.

“பிரதோஷம் மாமா உங்கக் கிட்டே சொல்லி ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா பாதுகையை வாங்கிக்கச் சொன்னா” என்று ஒரு அவநம்பிக்கை மிகும் தயக்கத்துடன் முறையிட்டார்.

என்ன இந்தக் கூட்டத்திலே பெரியவாளை உங்களுக்குத் தரிசனம் பண்ணி வைக்கிறதே என்னால முடியாது…..நீங்க பாதுகையை வேற அனுக்ரஹம் பண்ணி வாங்கித்தரக் கேட்கீறீர்களே என்று தான் ஸ்ரீ குமரேசன் சொல்ல வாய்ப்புண்டு.

ஆனால் முற்றிலும் மாறாக பிரதோஷம் மாமா சொல்லிட்டாரில்லே…..இதோ வாங்கிக் கொடுத்துடறேன் என்று ஸ்ரீ குமரேசன் மடமடவென்று அந்த அறைக்குச் சென்று மேலே பரண்போன்ற இடத்திலிருந்த ஜோடி பாதமலர்களை எடுத்து அதை வேறு ஒரு மூடிய அறைக்குள் விஸ்ராந்தியாக அமர்ந்திருந்த பெரும் தெய்வத்தின் பாதகங்களில் இட்டு வெளியே வந்து நின்றார்.

சுபாஷ்சந்திரனுக்கு நடக்கும் அதிசயம் மெய்சிலிர்க்க வைத்தது. இத்தனை துரிதமாக தன் வேண்டுதல் நிறைவேறும் வகையில் இப்படி நடக்கிறதே என்ற பிரமிப்பு.

“ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா பாதத்திலே சித்தநாழி இருக்கட்டும். அப்புறம் வாங்கிக்கலாம்” என்று கூறிவிட்டுச் சென்றார். சுபாஷ்சந்திரன் ஆச்சர்யத்திலிருந்து மீளாத நிலையில் ஆனந்தமுற்று காத்திருந்தார். மூடிய அறையில் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளைத் தரிசிக்க இயலவில்லை.

சற்று நேரம் சென்றதும் ஸ்ரீ குமரேசன் சற்றே கதவைத் திறந்துப் பார்க்க அங்கே ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா ஒரு ஆசனத்தில் அமர்ந்து ஒரு பாதம் மடங்கி இருக்க மறுபாதம் தெரியும்படியாக பாதுகையை அணிந்து காட்சித் தந்தார்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா சாந்த சொரூபியாய் சலனமின்றி இருப்பது தெரிந்தது. குமரேசன் கதவைத் திறந்து உள்ளே சென்று சுபாஷ்சந்திரனையும் குமாரையும் உள்ளே அழைத்து ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளிடம் போய் நின்றார்.

“பிரதோஷம் மாமா பெரியவா கிட்டே பாதுகையை வாங்கிக்கச் சொன்னாராம்”……அவரோட தம்பி சுபாஷ்சந்திரன் வந்திருக்கார் என்ற குமரேசன் சொன்னதுதான் தாமதம்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் வெளியே தெரிந்த பாதத்தின் கட்டைவிரல் லேசாக அசைய அந்த ஒரு பாதுகை சட்டென்று ஒரு அடி உயரத்திற்கு எகிரி மேலே போக எதிரே நடப்பதெல்லாம் கனவா என்று பிரமிப்பில் நின்ற சுபாஷ்சந்திரன் ஒரு உந்துதல் ஏற்பட்ட நிலையில் அந்தப் பாதுகையைத் தாவிப் பிடித்துக் கொண்டார்.

அத்தனை பலகீனமான ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் நிலையில் ஒரு கட்டைவிரலின் அசைவில் மரத்திலான பாதுகை அத்தனை உயரம் எழும்பிய அதிசயத்தை சுபாஷ்சந்திரனும் குமாரும் கண்டு விக்கித்தனர்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா பெரும் கருணையோடு தன் கண் அசைவால் மற்றொரு பாதுகையை தன் திருப்பாதத்திலிருந்து எடுத்துக் கொள்ளுமாறு சைகை செய்ய, ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளெனும் தீபஜோதியை எப்படி அணுகுவது என்று சுபாஷ் தயங்கினார். ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா திரும்பவும் சைகையினால் கூற பயபக்தியுடன் அந்தப் பாதுகையையும் எடுத்துக் கொண்டவர் தன் நிலையை மறந்தவராய் பிரதோஷம் மாமா

“பாதுகை கிடைச்சா அதை ரட்சிப்பாயா” என்று எச்சரித்ததை எண்ணியவராய் இருபாதுகையையும் தன் தலையில் வைத்து கண்ணீர்ப் பெருக நின்றார்.

அண்ணா சொன்னதுபோல் ஸ்ரீ பாதுகைகளை பவித்ரமான பக்தியோடு தான் பூஜிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற பயத்தோடு அவர் பாதுகைகளை தன் சிரத்தின் மேல் வைத்துக் கொண்டு நிற்க,

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளெனும் அன்புத் தெய்வம் திருமுகத்தில் லேசான புன்னைகையோடு தன் மார்பில் கையை வைத்து “நான் பாத்துக்கறேன்” என்பது போல் ஒரு முறையல்ல பலமுறை தன் திருக்கரங்களால் மார்பைத் தொட்டுத் தொட்டு ஆசிர்வதித்தபடியே அமர்ந்து காட்சி தந்தார்.

ஸ்ரீ பிரதோஷம் மாமா என்ற நாயன்மாரின் வாக்கிற்கு எத்தனை மகிமை என்பதை அவரை தடுத்தாட்கொண்ட பரமகாருண்ய தெய்வமான ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவா இப்படி ஒரு பெரிய அதிசயத்தின் மூலம் மகிமை புரிந்து காட்டியதாக ஸ்ரீ சுபாஷ்சந்திரன் இந்த ஆபூர்வ சம்பவத்தை விளக்கினார்.

இப்பேற்பட்ட பெரும் தெய்வத்திடம் நாமும் சரண்புகுந்து வாழ்வில் நிம்மதியும், மகிழ்ச்சியுமாக சகல ஐஸ்வர்யங்களையும், சர்வ மங்களங்களையும் பெற்று ஆனந்திப்போமாக!

“The devotee and the Padhukas”

Shri Mahaperiyava, due to His kindness, to bless all the people, like a Sugabrahma Rishi Saint, took avatar as Shri Shri Shri Mahaperiyava, walked this earth and blessed us.

Some people were really unlucky to miss out the darshan of Sri Periyava and witness His simple way of life during the times He was physically present in this world. But we now talk about Sri Pradosham Mama, who had experienced Sri Periyava’s blessings and kindness completely due to his complete and unconditional surrender to Sri Periyava. Through various pravachan, Mama’s bhakti has been talked about and has become very popular.

As somebody who had experienced this bhakti, Gadam vidwan T.H. Subashchandar narrates this incident.

“Without searching here and there, always hold on to Sri Periyava.”, Pradosham Mama had told this to him and his brother the famous Gadam vidwan T.H. Vinayakram. Mama has also been angry with their family multiple times for not doing it. Just like a father who get angry with his kids for not doing the right things, Pradosham Mama has guided their family and they had duly followed his advices.

As the Gadam brothers developed their Bhakti towards Sri Periyava and as they understood that all the other Gods are implicitly present inside Sri Periyava, they wished to obtain Sri Periyava’s Padhuka for worship in their house.  Sri Periyava blessed the elder brother Sri Vinayakram with a Padhuka like the elder brother Lord Ganesha, who got the Mango from Lord Shiva. Even though the brothers stayed as a family together in Thiruvallikeni in Chennai, the younger brother had a feeling that he has not been blessed with a Padhuka.

In the meantime, Pradosham Mama also had mentioned to them that if they ever get Sri Periyava’s Padhuka, they will have to perform Pooja for them and also the Padhuka is meant for the entire family and they are not supposed to ask for any more Padhuka from Sri Periyava. So the family was bound by what Pradosham Mama had said and did not plan to ask for any more Padhuka. But Subashchandar still yearned for a special blessings from Sri Periyava in the form of a Padhuka all for himself.

Just like Lord Muruga who went around all the three worlds in His peacock for getting the knowledge mango, Subashchandar travelled in his tension of not getting Padhuka for three months. Once all the brothers including the youngest brother Violin Vidwan T.H. Gurumoorthy were visiting Pradosham Mama’s house. Even though Pradosham Mama in a bid to get the brothers completely immersed in Sri Periyava’s bhakti had talked to them harshly due to a little lack in their bhakti, Mama immediately melted and embraced them with kind words.

With the same kindness, Pradosham Mama asked only Subashchandar to accompany him to Srimatam that night. Subashchandar accepted and went with Mama happily. They stayed at the Srimatam and Subashchandar had an opportunity to sleep outside Sri Periyava’s Mena. Subashchandar was unable to sleep that night and was wide awake like Sri Periyava, who to protect this world, is actually awake, but He pretends to be sleeping in the Mena for this world. Dreams not only come during our sleep but also when we are awake. Subashchandar was awake and was dreaming of getting a Padhuka.

Subashchandar spent the night awake and imagining the different ways through which he could get the Padhuka. He had imagined that in the morning after Viswaroopa darshan Sri Periyava Himself hands him the Padhuka. He also imagined that in the morning, he requests for Padhuka from Sri Periyava and at the same time another devotee comes with a flower Padhuka and Sri Periyava accepts and blesses the Padhuka and then gives it to Subashchandar. In this way he imagines multiple different ways in which he could be blessed with a Padhuka.

Pradosham Mama who at one point of time had said that one Padhuka was sufficient for his family now asked Subashchandar, “Do you want a Padhuka? Tell Kumaresan that I had told and get a Padhuka.” Subashchandar was very happy since Pradosham Mama had allowed him to get a Padhuka. But this happiness did not last long as Pradosham Mama in a stricter tone said, “Will you pray to the Padhuka regularly and sincerely? Go now.” He realized the importance of the Padhuka on hearing those lines. Subashchandar also felt that he might not be eligible for receiving the Padhuka and so Pradosham Mama could have warned him in that way. But still his mind caught to the statement where Mama asked him to talk to Kumaresan.

During the Viswaroopa darshan nothing happened like how Subashchandar had imagined. If they happen in the same way as it was imagined, the importance might go away. After their Viswaroopa darshan, he returned with Pradosham Mama to Bangaru Gardens and joined his family members. Then they all started in a van to Chennai. As they neared Srimatam, Subashchandar kept thinking about Pradosham Mama’s statement that he can check with Kumaresan for Sri Periyava Padhuka. How can Pradosham Mama’s statement go wrong? Also why should he let out that opportunity of getting a Padhuka? Immediately he asked the van to be stopped and got down near Srimatam along with his brother in law Kumar. He told his family that he had some work and asked them to proceed.

On entering Srimatam, he lost all the hopes by seeing a very large number of devotees there. He felt as if he had stopped at the Srimatam in a hurry and it was not a good decision to do so. Also Sri Periyava’s darshan time was already over.

In those times, Sri Periyava’s help was not co-operating. For ninety years, Sri Periyava had followed all the fasting rigorously, travelled to so many temples and towns across the country, all for the benefit of this world, and had to rest in that age. So during those days, it was not easy to have Sri Periyava’s darshan and the Sippanthis made sure that He had enough rest in a day. So Subashchandar had very less hope of getting a Padhuka.

In these difficult times, like how Sri Periyava had accepted thirattipaal (milk sweet) from Subashchandar once after Pradosham Mama had said that, can something similar happen again now? Even though he was not confident of getting a Padhuka, since Pradosham Mama had said it, he wanted to check with Kumaresan one time. Even finding Kumaresan Mama in the crowd seemed like a difficult task. With great difficulty after finding Kumaresan, Subashchandar with a reluctant tone said, “Pradosham Mama had asked me get a Padhuka by checking with you.”

It was expected that Kumaresan Mama will reply saying that when it is so difficult to get Sri Periyava’s darshan on that day, how one can expect to get a Padhuka blessed by Sri Periyava. But that did not happen. Instead, Kumaresan Mama went inside and took a Padhuka from an old shelf and put them in Sri Periyava’s holy feet and came outside. Subashchandar was surprised and did not know if whatever that was happening was true or not. Kumaresan Mama said, “Let the Padhuka stay in Sri Periyava’s feet for some time.” Since Sri Periyava was inside the room, Subashchandar was unable to see Sri Periyava with the Padhuka.

After some time when Kumaresan Mama opened the door, they were able to see Sri Periyava sitting with one leg crossed and the other facing them with the Padhuka. Kumaresan Mama took them inside and informed Sri Periyava that Pradosham Mama had asked to collect Padhuka and his brother Subashchandar has come.

As soon as Kumaresan Mama said this, Sri Periyava moved His thumb finger in the feet facing them and the Padhuka flew in the air. With Subashchandar still trying to understand if he was dreaming, he got a sudden push and caught the Padhuka.

Both Subashchandar and his brother in law Kumar were surprised to see how Sri Periyava in that age can make the Padhuka fly with just His feet’s thumb finger. With great kindness, Sri Periyava with a movement of His eyes asked Subashchandar to pick the Padhuka from the other feet. As Subashchandar was wondering if he could go near and collect it, Sri Periyava again signaled with His eyes. After this Subashchandar picked the Padhuka from Sri Periyava’s other feet. He was reminded of what Pradosham Mama had said about protecting and praying sincerely and regularly. He immediately kept the Padhuka in his head and stood with tears in his eyes.

As he stood there with the Padhuka on his head and the thoughts of praying to sincerely, Sri Periyava touched His heart with His hands twice indicating that He is with Subashchandar all the time and He will take care of everything.

Subashchandar felt that Sri Periyava had clearly explained to everyone the power of Pradosham Mama’s words through this incident. It is true that if we surrender at the feet of Sri Periyava we will be blessed with health, wealth, peace and happiness.
