ஆட்கொண்டு அருளும் பெரியவா

ஒரு தூய்மையான துறவறம் எப்படி இருக்கவேண்டுமென்ற இலக்கணத்தைக் காட்டவும், ஒரு பிரம்மஞானி எப்படி இருப்பார் என்பதை நமெக்கெல்லாம் காட்டவும் சாக்ஷாத் பரமேஸ்வரரே நம்மிடையே ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவாளாய் நடமாடி, சுகப்பிரம்மரிஷி அவர்களின் மேன்மையோடு அருள்பாலித்துள்ளார்.

ஈஸ்வரரின் இப்பேற்பட்ட கருணையை அறிந்து கொண்டு ஆனந்தத்தில் திளைக்கும் பேறு பல பக்தர்களுக்கு பகிர்ந்து அளிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தாலும். ஒவ்வொரு பக்தரும் “எனக்கு மட்டுமே ஸ்ரீபெரியவா சொந்தம்” என்று கோபியர்கள் கிருஷ்ண பரமாத்மாவை உரிமை கொண்டாடியதுபோல் தங்கள் பக்திப் பெருக்கால் செருக்கடைகின்றனர்.

அப்படிப்பட்ட பக்தர்கள் வெவ்வேறு சமயங்களைச் சார்ந்திருக்க ஒரு வைணவக் குலத்தில் பிறந்த திரு. டி.ஏ. பாஷ்யம் இந்தச் சிவ திருஅவதார புருஷரிடம் கொண்ட பக்தி அனுபவங்களைச் சொல்கிறார். (நன்றி : மகா பெரியவாள் அனுபவங்கள் ஆறாம் பகுதி)

இவர் நாலாயிர திவ்ய பிரபந்தம் கோஷ்டியோடு சென்று ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹா பெரியவாளிடம் பாசுரங்களைச் சொல்வது வழக்கம். ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் சதாப்தி உற்சவங்கள் நடந்த சமயம் இப்படி தன் குழுக்களோடு ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் முன் திவ்ய பிரபந்த பாடல்களை தொகுத்து சேவித்தார்.

இவர்கள் தொகுத்த பாசுரங்கள் பல பெருமாள் கோயில்களான திவ்ய தேசங்களின் தெய்வங்களைப் போற்றிப் பாடிய பாடல்களாகவே தொடர்ந்தது..

இவர்கள் சொல்லிக் கொண்டு வந்தபோது ஒரு இடத்தில் தடைப்பட்டு நின்றது. உடனே ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா “கண்ணி நுண் சிறுத்தாம்பு சேவியுங்கள்” என்று அருள் பாலிக்க அங்கிருந்த வைணவர் அனைவருக்கும் வியப்பு. நாலாயிர திவ்ய பிரபந்தத்தை தாங்கள் மட்டும்தான் முழுமையாக அறிந்தவர்களென அவர்கள் நினைத்திருக்க அவற்றுள் ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட பாசுரத்தை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா எடுத்துக் கொடுத்து பாடச் சொன்னதில் வியப்பு.

இது ஒருபுறமிருக்க அந்தக் குறிப்பிட்ட பாடலில் தொடங்கும் பதினொரு பாசுரங்களும் விசேஷமானவை. நாலாயிர திவ்ய பிரபந்தம் முழுவதும் எம்பெருமானைப் பற்றியதாக இருக்க, இந்த பதினொரு பாசுரங்களை மட்டும் ஸ்ரீ மதுரகவி ஆழ்வார் ஸ்வாமி நம்மாழ்வாரைப் போற்றிப் பாடிய பாசுரங்களாகும்.

பகவானைவிட ஆழ்வார்கள் போற்றத்தக்கவர்கள் என்பதால் மதுரகவியின் அந்தப் பாசுரத்தை ஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவா குறிப்பிட்டுப் பாடச் சொன்னார்போலும் என்று அவர்கள் பரவசமடைந்தனர். மேலும் நம்மாழ்வாரைப் போற்றிப் பாடும் பாசுரத்தை பிரப்பிரம்ம சொரூபமான தன்முன்னே நிற்பவர்களைப் பாடச் சொன்னதன்மூலம் தானே நம்மாழ்வார் என்பதை சைவ மகாஞானி அவர்களுக்கு உபதேசித்தருளியுள்ளார்.

ஒருமுறை மத்திய அரசு போக்குவரத்துத்துறை அதிகாரிகள் மூவர் ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளைத் தரிசிக்க வந்தனர். தரிசனம் செய்விக்க பாஷ்யம் அவர்களை உடன் வரச்சொன்னார்கள். இவரும் தரிசனம் இலகுவாகக் கிடைத்துவிடும் என்ற அலட்சியத்துடன் அழைத்துச் சென்றார்.

அன்று செவ்வாய்கிழமை. காலை ஆறரை மணி, எப்படியும் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா தரிசனம் நல்கும் நேரம். போனோமா, தரிசனம் செய்து கொண்டு வந்தோமா என்று திரும்பிவிடலாமென்ற நினைப்பு.

இந்த நினைப்பு அந்த நால்வருக்குள் யார் ஒருவரிடமிருந்ததோ தெரியாது. அவர் ஸ்ரீமடத்திற்குள் போய் நிற்க,

“இன்னிக்கு ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா தரிசனம் கிடையாது” என்று ஸ்ரீமடம் சிப்பந்திகளின் அறிவிப்பால் ஆடி போனார்கள். என்ன காரணமோ என்ற பெருத்த ஏமாற்றத்தோடு நின்றிருக்க, வெங்குடி டாக்டர் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளைப் பரிசோதித்துவிட்டு வெளியே வந்தார்.

இவர்கள் ஆவலோடு அவரிடம் ஓடி ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளின் நிலைமை எப்படி உள்ளது; சற்றேனும் உட்கார்ந்து தரிசனம் நல்க இயலுமா என்பதை அறிய வேண்டிக் கேட்டனர்.

“பெரியவாளுக்கு 103 டிகிரி காய்ச்சல். எழுந்திருக்கவே முடியாம படுத்துண்டிருக்கா” என்று டாக்டரும் இவர்களுக்கு சாதகமில்லாத தகவலைக் கூறினார்.

ஸ்ரீபெரியவா உள்ளிருந்து டாக்டரைக் கூப்பிடுவதாக யாரோ திரும்பவும் அவரைக் கூட்டிச் சென்றனர். இந்த நால்வரும் ‘அடடா இத்தனை தூரத்திலிருந்து வந்தும் ஸ்ரீபெரியவா தரிசனம் நமக்கு கிடைக்கவில்லையே என்ன தவறு செய்தோமோ, ஒரு துளி இமைக்கும் நேரம் இங்கிருந்தே ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளைத் தரிசித்துவிட்டால் கூட போதும். எங்கிருந்தோ வந்ததற்கு அந்த க்ஷண நேர தரிசனமே திருப்தியளிக்கும்’ என்று உள்ளே கண்ணுக்கு புலப்படாமல் இருக்கும் ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளிடம் மனதில் வேண்டியபடி, ஏதோ இண்டு இடுக்கு இருந்தால் அதன் வழியாகக்கூட தரிசனம் கிட்டினால் போதும் என்று படபடக்க நின்றிருந்தனர்.

ஸ்ரீபெரியவா காட்சி தராவிட்டலும் மகானின் அமுதக் குரல் கேட்கும்படி அவர் டாக்டரிடம் உரையாடுவது லேசாக இவர்கள் செவியில் விழுகிறது.

“இன்னிக்கு செவ்வாய்கிழமை மங்களவாரமாச்சே” தன் உடல்நிலையில் ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளின் குரல் மெதுவாகக் கேட்கிறது.

“ஆமாம்” என்கிறார் வெங்குடி வைத்தியர்.

“மங்கள தீர்த்தத்தில் ஸ்நானம் பண்ணனுமே” ஸ்ரீபெரியவா.

“நன்னா இருக்கு, உடம்பு 103 டிகிரி காய்ச்சல். எழுந்திருக்கவே படாது….. ஆயிரம் மங்களவாரம் ஸ்நானம் பெரியவா பண்ணியாச்சு……..ஒரு மங்களவாரம் ஸ்நானம் பண்ணாட்டா பரவாயில்லை” ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளிடம் அன்பும், மரியாதையும் காரணமாக வைத்தியர் உரிமையோடு கண்டிப்பதும் இவர்கள் காதுக்கு கேட்கிறது.

வைத்தியர் எச்சரிப்பதைக் கேட்டால், ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளுக்கு எழுந்திருக்கவே முடியாத அளவிற்கு ஜூர வேகம் இருக்கிறது போலிருக்கு; அப்படியே ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா ஆசைப்பட்டு மங்கள ஸ்நானம் செய்து கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று அடம்பிடித்தாலும், உள்ளேயே கிணற்றில் ஸ்நானம் செய்து கொண்டு உடனே ஓய்வெடுக்கும்படிதான் ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளை கைங்கர்யகாரர்கள் அனுமதிப்பார்களோ என்னவோ? நமக்கு இன்று ஸ்ரீபெரியவா தரிசனம் கொடுப்பினை இல்லவே இல்லை என்பதாக அந்த நால்வருள் ஒருவரின் ஆதங்கம் மட்டும் ஓங்கியிருந்திருக்க வேண்டும். அதற்காகவே ஒரு அதிசயம் செய்ய ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் கருணை செயல்படலாயிற்று.

திடீரென்று ‘வழிவிடுங்கோ வழிவிடுங்கோ’ என்று குரல் கைங்கர்யம் செய்பவர்களிடமிருந்து எழ எல்லோரும் ஒதுங்கி வழிவிட ஸ்ரீபெரியவா விரைவாக வெளியே வந்து நிற்கிறார்.

ஆகா என்ன பேறு பெற்றுவிட்டோம். என்னே மகானின் கருணை. தன் உடல் சுகமின்மையிலும் பக்தர்களின் ஆதங்கத்தை அறிந்தவராய் அத்தனை காய்ச்சலிலும் தரிசனம் நல்க ஈஸ்வரர் விழைந்துள்ளாரே என்ற உணர்ச்சிப் பெருக்கோடு ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளை மிக அருகே தரிசித்து மகிழ்கின்றனர்.

அதுவே பரமதிருப்தி. இதுவே பெரும்பாக்யம் என்று அவர்களின் மனம் சமாதனாமாகியிருந்தாலும், ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளின் அனுக்ரஹ பிரவாகம் மடை திறந்து பாய்கிறது.

மடமடவென்று ஸ்ரீமடத்தின் வெளியே ஸ்ரீபெரியவா வருகிறார். எதிரே கங்கை கொண்டான் மண்டப வாயிலில் பொரி வியாபாரம் செய்யும் ஒரு இஸ்லாமிய அன்பரிடம் நலம் விசாரிக்கிறார். பின் மங்கள தீர்த்தக் குளத்திற்குப் போய் நிற்கிறார்.

கைங்கரிய அன்பர்களுக்கு ஒரே படபடப்பும் லேசான கோபமும் எழுகிறது. நடுங்கிப் போய் ஓடிச் சென்று “பெரியவா குளக்கரையில் தானே ஸ்நானம் செய்யணும்……நாங்க வெந்நீர் கொண்டு தர்றோம். பெரியவா இஷ்டப்படியே மங்கள தீர்த்தக் கரையிலே ஸ்நானம் பண்ணலாம்” எப்படியோ சமாதானம் செய்து பச்சை தண்ணீரில் பெரியவா குளிப்பதைத் தடுக்க முயற்சிக்கிறார்கள்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் சித்தம் அவர்களின் அன்புக்குக் கட்டுப்பட்டு இசைந்தது.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் திருகாட்சி க்ஷணநேரம் கிடைக்காதா என்று ஏங்கிய நால்வருக்கும் ஒரு விஸ்தாரமான அபிஷேக காட்சியே கண்டுகளிக்கப் போகும் பாக்யம் காத்திருந்தது.

உடனே இந்த பக்தர்கள் புருஷசுக்தம் பாராயணம் செய்ய ஆரம்பித்தனர். ஸ்ரீமடத்திலிருந்தது கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட குடத்தின் வெதுவெதுப்பான நீரால் ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளுக்கு மங்கள தீர்த்தப் புஷ்கரணியில் மகோன்னதமாக அபிஷேகம் செய்யப்பட்டதை ஆனந்தமாக அவர்களின் கண்கள் பருகின.

அந்த அதிகாரிகளுள் யாருடைய உண்மையான வேண்டுதல் ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளின் அபார கருணையை பெருக்க விட்டதோ தெரியவில்லை. அன்று கிடைக்கவே கிடைக்காதென்று நினைத்த தரிசனம் மிகவும் விஸ்தாரமான வகையில் முழுத் திருப்தியோடு அவர்கள் பெறும் வகையில் ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவாளின் அருள் வகை  செய்துவிட்டது.

தேரை நகர்த்திய நாயகர்

திருவிடைமருதூரைச் சேர்ந்த T.A. சுவாமிநாதன் சொல்கிறார். 1933-ஆம் ஆண்டு திருவிடைமருதூரில் தைப்பூசத் திருவிழா எட்டாம் நாள் தேர் உலா. கொல்லன்கோடி மூலையில் தேர் அடைந்தபோது முட்டுக்கட்டைகள் நசுங்கிவிட்டதால், தேர் நேரே வடம்போக்கித் தெருவழிச் சென்று பள்ளத்தில் இறங்கிவிட்டது.

அந்த ஆண்டு கும்பகோணம் மஹாமகத்திற்கு ஸ்ரீபெரியவா விஜயம் செய்து புனித நீராடலை முடித்துக் கொண்டு திருவிடைமருதூருக்கு வந்து பச்சையப்பன் தெருவில் தங்கினார்கள்.

மஹாலிங்கசுவாமி தேர் தடைப்பட்டு நிற்பதைக் கேட்டறிந்து ஒருநாள் தீடீரென்று ஏதோ தேன்றியதுபோல் புறப்பட்டு வேகமாக நடக்கலானார். மக்கள் கூடவே பின் தொடர்ந்தனர். பெருங்கூட்டமே சேர்ந்துவிட்டது. ஸ்ரீபெரியவா தேர் நின்ற இடம் வந்து மகாலிங்கேஸ்வரரைச் சுற்றிவந்து தரிசித்தார். பின் தேரின் வலப்புறமாக சென்று தேரின் வடத்தை தம் கரங்களால் பற்றி, கூடியிருந்த பக்தர்களைப் பார்த்து ஒன்றாக தேர் இழுக்குமாறு பணித்தார். அதற்குள் கோயில் அதிகாரிகளும் பணியாளர்களும் வந்துவிட்டனர். எங்கிருந்து அத்தனை பலம் எல்லோருக்கும் வந்ததோ தெரியவில்லை. ஆராவாரத்துடன் இழுக்க ஆச்சர்யப்படும் வகையில் தேர் பள்ளத்திலிருந்து மேலே வந்தது. எல்லோருக்கும் உற்சாகமாக இழுக்க  தேர் வேகமாகச் சென்றது. அன்று மாலை வடக்குவீதி வந்தது. மறுநாளும் எல்லோரையும் வருமாறு ஸ்ரீபெரியவா உரக்கக் கூற அப்படியே வந்து தேரை இழுத்து நிலைக்கு சேர்ந்தனர்.

ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவாளே இப்படிப்பட்ட பெரும் சக்தியைக் கொடுத்தருளியதை அனைவரும் உணர்ந்திருக்க வேண்டும்.

உயிரைக் காத்த உம்மாச்சி

திருநெல்வேலியிலிருந்து காஞ்சி ஸ்ரீமடத்திற்கு அவர்கள் வந்திருந்தனர். அந்தப் பையனுக்கு 35 வயதிருக்கும். தன் மனைவி பெண் குழந்தையோடு முறையிட்டான். தாங்க முடியாத தலைவலியால் பல நாட்கள் கஷ்டப்படுவதாகவும், பண்ணாத வைத்தியமில்லை பார்க்காத டாக்டரில்லை, போகாத கோயிலில்லை என்றார்கள். தாங்கள் சார்ந்திருந்த ஒரு மடத்தின் ஆச்சார்யரியரையும் தரிசித்துவிட்டுப் பலனில்லை என்று கடைசியாக யாரோ சொல்லி ஸ்ரீ மகாபெரியாளெனும் வைதீஸ்வரரிடம் வந்து நின்றனர்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளைத் தரிசிக்க நின்றபோதே வலி தாங்காமல் அவஸ்தை. “பெண்குழந்தை, பெண்டாட்டின்னு ஆயிடுத்து. என் பிள்ளை இப்படி வலி தாங்காம அவஸ்தைபடறானேன்னு இருக்கு…….. ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா தான் காப்பாத்தணும்” என்று பையனின் பெற்றவர்கள் கதறினர். பையனுக்கு அச்சமயம் பார்த்து உயிர்போகிற தலைவலி, ஒன்றும் பேசமுடியாத நிலை.

ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளின் சன்னதியே எந்த பெரிய நோய்க்கும் வைத்தியம்தான். ஆனால் அப்படியெல்லாம் சித்து விளையாடல் பெரியவா புரிவதில்லை. இயல்பாகவே நடப்பதுபோல் அதிசயங்கள் நடந்தேறும்.

ஒரு கைங்கர்யம் செய்பவரை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா கூப்பிட்டார்.

“அந்த ராமாமூர்த்தி டாக்டர் என்னை தரிசனம் செய்ய வர்றதேயில்லை. என்ன காரணம்னு தெரியலே…….. நீ இவரைக் கூட்டிண்டுபோய் அவரோட ஆஸ்பத்திரியிலே உட்கார வைச்சுட்டு உடனே வந்துடு” என்று உத்தரவிட்டார்.

வந்தவர்களுக்குப் புதிராக இருந்தது. அவர்களும் அப்படியே நர்சிங்ஹோம் சென்றபோது எப்போதும்போல் கூட்டமில்லாமல் இருந்தது. இந்தப் பையன் மட்டும்தான். இவரை உட்கார வைத்துவிட்டு ஸ்ரீபெரியவா சொன்னதுபோல் டாக்டரிடம் எதுவும் சொல்லாமல் அந்த கைங்கர்ய அன்பர் திரும்பிவிட்டார்.

உட்கார்ந்திருந்த பையன் தலைவலியால் துடித்துக் கதற, அறையிலிருந்து வெளியே வந்த டாக்டர் உடனே என்ன ஏது என்று கேட்காமல் தலைவலிக்கான பரிசோதனை செய்து முதலுதவிக்குப் பின் உடனே சிகிச்சை செய்தார். ஒரு அறுவை சிகிச்சையே செய்ய வேண்டிய நிலையில் இருந்தது.

“என்ன இது அதிசயம். ஒரு அஞ்சு நிமிஷம் லேட்டா வந்திருந்தா இவர் உயிருக்கே ஆபத்தாச்சே……இவர் சரியான சமயத்திலே வந்ததினாலே பிழைச்சுட்டார்” என்று டாக்டருகே பெரிய ஆச்சர்யம்.

பின்புதான் அவரை ஸ்ரீபெரியவாதான் அனுப்பியுள்ளார் என்பதை அதற்குபின் குடும்பத்தினர் சொல்லகேட்டு டாக்டருக்கு பேரானந்தம். தான் தரிசிக்க இயலாத நிலையில் தனக்கும் அனுக்ரஹம் செய்து அதே சமயம் சில நிமிடம் தாமதமானாலும் உயிருக்கே ஆபத்தென்ற நிலையிலிருந்தவரை இயல்பாகக் காப்பாற்றுவது போல்லல்லவா ஸ்ரீபெரியவா நாடகமாடியுள்ளார் என்று அவர் பூர்ணமாக உணர்ந்தார்.

ஒரு வாரம் சென்றது. தலைவலிக்காரர் சுகமடைந்துவிட்டார். அந்த குடும்பம் தரிசித்து ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளை வணங்கி தங்கள் நன்றியினைச் சொல்ல சன்னதி முன் நின்றபோது வெகுதூரத்தில் யாருக்கும் தெரியக்கூடாதென்று டாக்டர் ராமமூர்த்தியும் ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளை அங்கிருந்தே தரிசித்து நின்றார்.

“அதோ அங்கே யாரு நிக்கறா பாரு…..ராம்மூர்த்தி டாக்டர்தானே” என்று ஸ்ரீபெரியவா அங்கிருந்தவர்களைக் கேட்டபோது அந்த தயாபரரின் திருவிளையாடல் அனைவருக்கும் புரிந்தது. இப்பேற்பட்ட தெய்வத்திடம் சரணடைந்து வாழ்வில் எல்லா நன்மைகளயும் பெற்று சர்வ மங்களங்களுடனும் ஐஸ்வர்யங்களுடனும் பக்திக் கொண்டாடி வாழ்வோமாக

Shri Shri Shri Mahaperiyavaal Mahimai (05-11-2013)

“Periyava who embraces the devotee and blesses him”

Shri Mahaperiyava, due to His kindness, to bless all the people, like a Sugabrahma Rishi Saint, took avatar as Shri Shri Shri Mahaperiyava, walked this earth and blessed us.

The blessings of Sri Periyava has been shared with innumerable devotees and they float with joy in the ocean of His kindness. Just like how the Gopikas of Vrindavan felt that Krishna belonged only to them, the devotees of Sri Periyava also feel proud that Sri Periyava belongs only to them.

As these devotees belong to a various religions/sects, this incident is narrated by Thiru. T.A. Bashyam, who was born in a Vaishnava family. He talks about various incidents which helps him in his Bhakti towards the Siva Swaroopam Sri Periyava (Thanks: Maha Periyavaal Darisana Anubavangal Part Six).

It was Thiru. T.A. Bashyam’s usual practice to go along with his Nalayira Divya Prabantham group to recite those verses before Sri Periyava. Before Sri Periyava Shatabdhi celebrations, he went with group to recite and seek His blessings. Most of the verses that were picked were the verses praising Lord Vishnu from various Divya Desams.

As they were reciting the verses, they were struck at one place. Immediately Sri Periyava said, “Kanninut Siruthambu Seviyungal” indicating them to start from these lines. All the Vaishnava present there were surprised. They had assumed that only they knew the Nalayira Divya Prabantham completely and were surprised when Sri Periyava had recited a particular verse from it.

These lines had other significance also. All the eleven stanzas following these lines were special. Even though Nalayira Divya Prabantham was about praises of Lord, these lines were sung by Sri Madhurakavi Azhwar praising Nammazhwar.

The Vaishnavas realized that singing praises of Azhwars was more important than singing about the Lord Himself. Also by asking them to sing these lines, Sri Periyava had also indicated that He and the great saint Nammazhwar were no different.

Once three officers from the Central Government Transport Division had come for Sri Periyava’s darshan. They had asked Bashyam to accompany them. They had assumed that the darshan should not take a lot of time and Bashyam accompanied them.

It was 6 am on a Tuesday. They thought that they will go to the Srimatam, have Sri Periyava’s darshan and will be back soon. We do not know who from the four had thought that the darshan will be quick, but as they reached the Srimatam’s entrance, they were told that Sri Periyava will not be able to give darshan on that day. As they stood there thinking why there is no darshan on that day, they saw Dr. Venkudi coming out. The doctor had just finished checking Sri Periyava.

They enquired the doctor about Sri Periyava’s health and asked if He will be able to give darshan today. The doctor replied that Sri Periyava had a very high fever of about 103 degrees and will not be able to give darshan on that day.

As they stood there, they were only hoping for a glimpse of Sri Periyava, even if it was through any small window or even a crack in the wall. After travelling a long distance, they prayed to Sri Periyava for a very quick darshan even if it was from a distance. They were wondering what mistakes they would have committed for them to be denied the darshan on that day.

A Sippanthi came outside and informed the doctor that Sri Periyava had called him back inside. Now all the four were able to hear the voice of Sri Periyava talking to the doctor.

Sri Periyava said in a weak voice, “It looks like today is Tuesday.”

The doctor replied, “Yes.”

Sri Periyava continued, “I need to bathe in Mangala theertham today.”

The doctor replied, “The fever is already very high at 103 degrees. You are supposed to take rest now. You have already completed more than thousand Mangalavara Snanam. If one Tuesday is skipped, it is ok.” The doctor with lots of love and respect, talked in a strict tone to Sri Periyava. The four devotees waiting outside were able to hear this.

The four devotees outside understood the seriousness of Sri Periyava’s illness. They thought that even if Sri Periyava is allowed for snanam, the Sippanthis will allow Him only to the well inside. So they decided that there was completely no chance for Sri Periyava’s darshan that day. It looked like one of the four devotees was completely upset about not have Sri Periyava’s darshan and due to his strong prayers the miracle happened.

Suddenly they were able to hear the Sippanthis saying “please move” and as everyone there moved, Sri Periyava came outside and stood. All the devotees enjoyed Sri Periyava’s darshan and thanked Sri Periyava’s kindness. Who else would be so kind to satisfy the devotees’ wishes for darshan with such high fever? Even though they were satisfied with Sri Periyava’s darshan, the kindness of Sri Periyava was still overflowing and had not stopped.

Sri Periyava then starts walking towards Srimatam’s entrance. He reaches the Gangaikondan mandapam on the opposite side and enquires a Muslim vendor selling puffed rice about his life. Sri Periyava then continues walking to the Mangala theertham pond.

The Sippanthis were tensed and did not want Sri Periyava to bathe in the cold water of Mangala Theertham. They informed Sri Periyava that they will get some warm water and Sri Periyava can fulfill His wish of bathing in the Mangala Theertham. Sri Periyava agreed to the wishes of the Sippanthis. The four devotees who had wished just for a quick darshan were lucky to see a grand abhishegam being performed for Sri Periyava. Warm water was brought from Srimatam and abhishegam was performed. The four devotees started chanting Purusha Suktham and were blessed with the abhishega darshan of Sri Periyava. We do not know who among the four devotees had prayed so sincerely that Sri Periyava blessed them with a great darshan on that particular day.

The one who pushed the Ther (Lord’s Chariot)

This incident is narrated by T.A. Swaminathan of Thiruvidaimaruthur. In 1933, Thaipusam was being celebrated in Thiruvidaimaruthur. It was the eight day of the celebration and the chariot procession was supposed to be on that day. As the Chariot reached Kollankodi Street, the sticks used to hold it got crushed and it moved north and got struck in the side of the street.

In that year Sri Periyava was camping in Pachayappan Street at Thiruvidaimaruthur after His snanam at the Mahamaham celebrations at Kumbakonam. On hearing that the Chariot of Lord Mahalingaswamy had stalled, Sri Periyava started to walk towards the chariot. A lot of devotees had assembled there. As soon as Sri Periyava had reached the Chariot, He prayed to the Lord and circumambulated the Chariot.  Sri Periyava then went to the right side of the Chariot and started pulling it. He asked everyone present there to pull also. In the meantime the temple officials also had arrived there. Nobody knew from where the energy came, but as everyone pulled, the Chariot was pulled from the side of the street. And as everyone pulled, the Chariot began to move fast. In the evening it had reached the North Street. Sri Periyava in a loud voice asked everyone to come the following day also. Everyone came the other day and they pulled the Chariot. Everyone present there must have felt the power given by Sri Periyava.

Ummachi who saved his life

They had come to the Kanchipuram Srimatam from Tirunelveli. He was around 35 years old and had come with his wife and daughter. He was suffering from a severe headache. They had consulted multiple doctors and visited a lot of temples and also a Pontiff of Srimatam related to them and had at last come to Vaitheeswaran Sri Periyava.

Even when standing before Sri Periyava, he had severe head-ache. His parents who had also accompanied him said to Sri Periyava, “My son now has a wife and daughter, but he is suffering from this severe head-ache. Only Sri Periyava can save him.” He was unable to talk due to the severe head-ache. Even though Sri Periyava’s Sannidhi itself can cure any disease, Sri Periyava does not do any magic. All the miracles that happen are usually in a normal way.

Sri Periyava called a Sippanthi and said, “I do not know why, but Dr. Ramamurthy is not coming for darshan nowadays. Can you take him to the doctor’s hospital and leave him there?” Everyone in his family were confused. But they followed Sri Periyava’s orders and went to the hospital. Once reaching the hospital, they found out that there was no one there, and as per the orders, the Sippanthi left him in the waiting area and came back.

He still had his head-ache and on hearing him screaming in pain, the doctor came out. Without asking anything, he started the treatment immediately. The doctor found out that he needed a surgery.

The doctor said in a surprised tone, “What a surprise? He had been brought here at the right time. If this was even delayed for five minutes, it could have been dangerous for him.”

After talking to his family, when the doctor came to know that it was Sri Periyava who had sent him for treatment, he felt happy and blessed. Even though the doctor could not go for Sri Periyava’s darshan, he was happy to receive Sri Periyava’s blessings in this way. The doctor also understood how Sri Periyava in a very normal way made him reach the hospital on time for the treatment.

One week passed and he recovered from his head-ache. As he came with his family to thank Sri Periyava, doctor Ramamurthy stood a little far away for Sri Periyava’s darshan.

As Sri Periyava asked the devotees nearby, “Is it Dr. Ramamurthy standing there?” they all understood His divine play.

With all the different kind blessings that Sri Periyava has bestowed upon His devotees, it is true that if we surrender at the feet of Periyava we will be blessed with health, wealth, peace and happiness.
